Unbelievably, a study came out today that showed that people who were regular users of social networking sites like FaceBook get (or had) low grade point averages in school. This came on FoxNews, so you can look it up and have some laughs.

What's next? People who smoke pot are retarded? People who smoke pot and have a certain political predisposition are retarded?

People who post on ICMag are retarded?

I'm guilty all the way around. My I.Q. is only marginally larger than my shoe size...

I dont really have much faith in school exam results being linked to a persons intelligence level, lots of kids went to school some did well some had no interest in school.

Just because a person does not do well at school does not mean they are dumb ,but sure then again half these boffins live in their own world and would not have the intelligence to last a day on the street or in the wilderness.

Not a big fan of networking sites or corporations that run them knowing my business or anything about me...it actually scares the crap out of me big brother is watching and all that..

LOL! This is probably true though. Even though facebook browsing & low GPA doesn't neccesarily indicate cause > effect, every time I'm in the library there's always somebody (either sitting next to me or at the same table) on facebook. They'll have a book or two open, notes, etc, but browsing facebook.

It's probably the worst distraction while doing school work other than texting on your phone. IME, it definitely decreases people's productivity.

dont blame society, that adds to the dumbing down. Instead take responsibility for you mind, and seek knowledge. Smart your self up (so to say), and make sure your kids are educated. Read books from all view points. Also read non-biased books with no view point, just the non-didputable facts. and Im not talking about what faux news calls undisputable facts, I'm talking about 2+2=4 kinda facts.

Dont let your kids watch tv, other than national geoagraphic channel, and discovery, etc. My god father's house got robbed when his girls were babies. Then never replaced the t.v., so the girls read all the time instead. They are 18, and 15 now, and they are already smarter than the majority of adults I meet.

I'm guessing this has more to do with the fact that socially thriving people tend to have a lower capacity/desire to absorb complicated information over time. The Facebook/Myspace stuff is just the currents means to bullshit with your friends.

Friendless dudes trying to overdose on a perpetual coffee/sativa combo whilst studying physics alone in their room tend to not have many Facebook pals to talk to. I'm sure the same study could be done exchanging internet communication tools to, say, cell phone minutes, or whatever else.

That average I.Q. is 100, genius I.Q. is one fifty. Retarded is like 70 I think. Mine is 141. It went up like 10 points after learning how to play guitar, and cello. There is no way I am close to genius. I.Q. is just the number that says how much mental capacity, and logic you have. I may have the potential to be that smart but it is my responsibility to use my full potential, not societies fault for not making me.

Much success also depends on the luck of who you know, and where you are. Sometimes you just gotta be in the right place at the right time.

^ I dunno. I have said it before. I.Q. does not equal wisdom. I'm not dumb, but I'm nothing really out of the ordinary. I will admit I think it has helped me in someways.

I dont think people should let I.Q. effect what they think about themselves. I know plenty of people that have lower I.Q.'s than me because we all went to school together and all shared the scores with eachother. I consider many of them much smarter than me. My little brother has a 112 I.Q. and he got into Juliard, on scholarship. Honest effort, and Hard work go a long way. If someone lets I.Q. effect their ego, or use it as a one up card, then that person just couldn't think of a better come back at the moment.

I agree Hash Z, got a 137 and a 118 high off my ass lol! But I don't feel that smart. I watched some documentary on discovery channel or hist. that compared totally different people: different education levels, hobbies, professions...They were given different logic and "smart" tests, and basically come to the same conclusion as you have stated. Doesn't mean much in the scheme of things.
