My lawyer just told me to ditch my cooking scale

M

movingtocally

Sad but true, a cooking scale increases your likelihood of being charged with intent to distribute. I'm getting good at guestimating weight, but granted I don't bake, so I can be off by a little.

Just throwing it out there on the chance that maybe you dudes didn't consider this before. Scales are a bad thing to have in your home, whether they be in the kitchen or not. Obviously, whether or not you feel like taking steps like this is a very personal decision, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

Cheers.

Good info. I have to get rid of an antique shotgun. It was purchased from a Sears & Roebuck catalog in 1910 for $2.50. A buddy said I could remove the pin but I'm not gonna chance it. It's gonna be ruff slingin dope on da streets w/o my 16 gauge Cranberry, hehe.

Wise man. I have literally never seen a case where a marijuana grower whom had a firearm didn't get prison.

I'm sure your lawyer has a good point, but man that is just more proof of the insanity of our society. I've got a scale for cooking and weighing coffee beans for espresso shots, its a very common household item with many non-"drug" related uses. I use it every day for non-cannabis use, made some chocolate cookies with it yesterday, fuck them if they are going to try and crucify us for being cannabis lovers who happen to like to cook. Maybe we can get Martha Stewart and the epicurean army on our side if they continue this insanity.

You better get rid of all your ziplock bags too. See this thread for an example of what gets seized in a raid. If you're going to grow, you might as well give up on weighing your coffee or having fresh sandwiches. If you know what's good for you.

Are we talking about a digital cooking scale, a spring device cooking scale, or both. If you can't have the latter, then thats really messed up.

Can people in MMJ states have scales ?

If you live in mmj state, it's my understanding that its ok to have a gun, and not get in trouble for just having one, while cultivating your meds. I could be wrong, and it could vary from med state to med state. Sounds like a nice gun, I wouldn't want to get rid of it, unless it would sell for alott, like 800 times the original price at the very least. I also second that having the firing pin removed, would make it a nonfunctioning piece of art. Maybe ask a lawyer like the movingtocally did.

edit: sounds like it's a family airloom.

lol Ms Carter.

It is also my understanding that lawyers for the most part, have to keep things confidential, and can't tell on you, unless it involves a murder.

As long as you are in compliance with State Laws for your grow, you can have guns...as the only thing guns do, is add, "Possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony"-- If there is no Felony, there is no prob with a (legally registered) gun--

know of a case where the judge asked the police prosecutor when about to find a guilty/not guilty verdict "was there any thing in the grow house that would say he was a dealer" prosecutor -"no"
....there was infact scales in a cupboard with cooking supplys ....not sitting there with baggies and weed....

the arresting coppers could have on the day gone in the direction to pull them out and say "look what we have here mr dealer!"

could go both ways....would also MAYBE depend on what the situation looks like? no baking trays, food ,cook books....on the other hand...weed, bags, scales, lists of debts/names/cash amounts???

very hard what the cops will make you out to be or what you REALLY are doing to what the judge will think or be made to think...

not having them there will cut out that factor.....having there there in the RIGHT environment "should" be ok....the cops look for lots of things like bags, mobile phones, look through you pc,lists, deals bagged up......if you have a good lawyer if your busted he can show this too.HH. =]-~

here in nevada at least combining guns and growing are legal as long as the rules are followed. a licensed grower can even obtain or keep their c & c license but one should have a damn good alternative reason for the scales...like make your ammo, works with jewelry/precious metals, online biz requires postal scale...any other idea's for legit reasons to own a scale?

I grow herbs in my garden. Some herbs ( mind I am not talking about pot ) require very precise scale to measure amounts when preparing home medicine.
If not there goes your kidney or liver.

I always figured I'd try and fall back on the "I'm a medical user and student, so I have a scale to weigh out doeses, which is very important, otherwise, i can become over medicated and unable to attend to my scholarly duties"
anyone have any idea if thats a legit excuse?
or how about that and "I have a scale to make sure I'm in compliance with state guidelines and don't exceed my legal threshhold of medicine"

the way I look at it does not matter

scale or not, if the boys in blue are inside my grow, something has gone very very wrong. A felony is a felony.

They are not going to get inside my place because of a controlled buy (it simply does not happen), my trash is clean, no one to snitch......

would take a true disaster

that and keep working at helping those wanting to grow realize their dreams! once we're all growing (at least those able to do it) all we'll have to do is exchange flowers with each other for comparison and most of the monetary end of it will disappear...i'm sure once the law starts lightening up and cultivation becomes legal we'll see a lot more backyard gardens and far fewer dealers.
