not sure what to think on these

once in a while i get some spam...but twice today it got more strange......this is regarding yahoo mail not IC.

first i get one that looks like from my bank...sayin someone had tried to log in on various computers, and if i didnt supply lots of critical info that my acct would be closed (acct #, ssn, moms maiden, passcode, dob, etc.....) i called my bank and they said it was not legit.

then got a sim one tonight referring to paypal....i dont use paypal, but had an acct a few yrs ago.

im sure thats garbage too.

the bank wanted me to forward the one to them, and when i try to forward it...it wont let me and says my yahoo acct has had suspicious activity and asks for all kinds of personal info to verify my yahoo acct....i know better than to play along.

....just wondering if anyone else gets that crap, or if it means i should worry at all.....ive never had it before.

...the bank one worried me because i have a pretty high balance (10g's +) in there, and do all my banking online.

Phishing emails dude - but sounds like someone HAS gotten to your yahoo account.

Dump the account, if you can't go in and change details.

I get paypal and bank and others like that all the time.

As long as you are smart (and you are), you'll be fine...

And get/do severe antivirus checks, just in case...

Peace and pot to you, my friend.

i dont think they have got my yahoo acct.....that msg only comes up when i try to forward the bank one....like there is a link in there to make it look like my acct has been hacked.....cuz it then prompts me to answer sim questions regarding yahoo acct.

I have two seperate accounts. One for savings and another for online banking, cards, etc.... I put money into my online account monthly to cover the bills. I never leave more than a few hundred extra in it... If someone did hack me I'll be damned if they get it all....

I believe you are only liable to 50 dollars worth. It could apply only to credit cards, but i think it does to both.

I also think my head is straight even though it's tilted right now, so i may just be stoned...

i got a Bank of American Email sayin a very similar thing. It was address through a yahoo and it had BOA tags all over it. I, however, have never dealth with BoA so i hit the spam button and that was it. You have to be weary, never ever give your private info out. it's not worth it. You did the right thing, call the bank itself and let them deal with it. Banks are very good at defending their money/liabilities/rights.

Banks dont lose or forget your details end of story, they have records that are most likely backed up and protected.

dodgey emails probably came from eastern europe of nigeria, nokuy your dead right to be suspicious when the banks try to rip us off they do it right to our face and charge us for the pleasure they dont need email to do it

True.
Those emails provide most of them from Africa (Senegal, Nigeria).
I've seen a TV emission about those scams and they use or hack most of the yahoo users.
Either they make a yahoo acct to get those european $$ or to scam the people worldwide by any kinds (giving them your infos because you thought the emails were real, trying to get access to your bank acct and then ripped off your money, etc...)

You did the right thing by calling your bank and I think you should create a new email acct for your personal uses and another one (try to find one more secure than yahoo or msn) for all your banks management, bills or whatever.

My two cents.

There is a lot of that kind of thing happening. We have been receiving notices at my job from the IT dept to ignore/delete the e-mails and of course never respond. We have also been getting crap by text wanting info...The crooks are getting desperate I guess.

I used to get the paypal one pretty regularly but it seems to have quit. What you have to watch out for now mostly is the "your computer is infected" scam. The company looks pretty legit and uses the name windows XP I believe. They want to charge you 80 bucks or so to fix your computer.

I get PayPal and Ebay fakes all the time. The yahoo spam filter does a decent job of knocking those out nowadays. Nothing purporting to be from my bank, yet.

Change all of your passwords, check all of your credit cards to see if any activity has been attempted....

I had my wallet stolen last year out of my back room of the store I managed and the bitch that did it was going around trying to open accounts in my name... All people need are you numbers to do damage.

I got a copy of my credit report to make sure my life still belonged to ME! Just to be sure...you never know what's happening with your credit.

Oh yeah, and I also get some from "Barister such-n-such" from South Africa stating that a dead guy with my last name has no family and they just want to give me his millions that were left behind, and all I have to do is send my bank account information for them to deposit it.

Yeah. I'll get right on that.

you shouldnt be held liable if your credit card info is taken online. that's what they tell you anyway. never had it happen to me, but i bet its a huge bullshit hassle when it does.
