try putting the lamp closer to your canopy, and when u notice ur canopy to take affect from the heat.. raise the lamp, and then wait for the purple to come, the change from hot to cool temps is what does it

as said low temps MAY turn plants purple but as far as i can see true purple is a genetic thing ...for example the 80s purple afghan used in dps twilight and purple #1...will turn purple even if ran at high indoor temps without any cool periods...thats what i found anyway

also some strains never seem to go purple no matter how low night temps get...

That OGA X Bubba looks more maroon than purple ... are we using Purple to describe any blue or red in a plants coloration now?

Hey All,

I searched all over and couldn't find the answer, so I thought it would be a great poll question. At what stage of flowering, in your EXPERIENCE, does the purple coloration begin to show. This applies only to plants that have purple in their genetics, not those who turn purple only because of low temps.

The reason I am asking is because I have a few girls now in flower that have shown some very purple stems from the beginning, the most purple colored girl had some purple in her buds very early on...but then disappeared :(

The parental lineage is sweet tooth x lifesaver, both of which are known to have purple in their genetics. I'm wondering if I might get blessed with some pretty purple buds in the end :)

I realize it is a very general subject with mucho variation, but in your general experience does the purple show up in the beginning, middle, or end of flower?

Sorry hal..just realised your asking about purple strains not any strains...with twilight and purple #1 the purple was showing on leaf stems in veg and even at the very beginning of flowering the buds are purple

Hey DTSB....

No worries dude. I actually could have worded the initial post better. And, the question really does pertain to all colors that can present themselves in a bud...its just that the plants that I am growing now have purple in their genes, so that is what I was wondering about.

I have a seedling-sized Purple Widow thats showing calyxes and they're purple from the get-go. I'm hoping it'll pack on more foliage cuz there's only enough plant to support a popcorn bud. Yeah my shits wapped.

the purple shows when youre just about to cut it down then you realize its just barely turning purple and get pissed at the fact that you are now going to wait another three weeks to chop the damn thing

its almost always at the end unless you screw up and the nutes go too low. when the leafmatter dies and the chlorophyll goes; then the red and purple pigments start to come out

ive noticed that in veg you can kind of pick out which plants have these tendencies by their darkness... the darker blackish purplish reddish green leaved plants generally tend to have red and purple leaves and sometimes this tendency turns out in the calyxes as well

i had one plant that would make a rasta flag out of its leaves toward the end of flowering, with red then yellow then green on many of the fan leaves

it should be pretty easy to spot these types of plants

I'm growing some Sour Diesel x Purple Urkel right now. The beans are from another grower. I've never played with this cross before, but I noticed recently some purples coming out. My day temps are around 78 with night temps dropping to 62. Currently I am at day 35 of flowering. Just a couple fans right now, hope it continues!
