Abstract:
Medicinal cannabis has attracted a lot of attention in recent times. Various forms of administration are used, of which smoking is very common but the least desirable. Smoking cannabis generates a large amount of unwanted side products, of which carcinogenic compounds are the most dangerous. A common practice among recreational drug users, and to a lesser degree patients who uses cannabis as medicine, is to mix the cannabis material with commercially available tobacco in order to increase the burning efficiency of the cigarette and to reduce the overall costs of the cigarette. In this study cannabis material has been mixed with tobacco in order to determine whether tobacco has an influence on the amount of and ratio between tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), cannabigerol (CBG), and cannabinol (CBN) administered while smoking. A small-scale smoking machine has been used and cannabis mixed with various ratios of tobacco was smoked. The trapped smoke was quantitatively analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and the amount of THC, CBG, and CBN was determined for each cigarette. We have found that tobacco increases the amount of THC inhaled per gram of cannabis from 32.70 ± 2.29 mg/g for a 100% cannabis cigarette to 58.90 ± 2.30 mg/g for a 25% cannabis cigarette. This indicates that tobacco increases the vaporization efficiency of THC by as much as 45% under the conditions tested.

Tobacco also kills the thc high. I was a cig smoker for 20+ years and even then I knew that having that cig after a joint was crashing my high. I really proved it to myself when I quit smoking cigs back in '97. I was blown away by how long I stayed high after doing just a hit or two when I didn't follow it right away with a cigarette.

Not only that, I'm a weed connoisseur and a purist, and I hate the taste of tobacco mixed with weed. It's a totally different inhale and inhaling tobacco smoke that way just tastes nasty and makes me gag. Take a hit off a cig the same way you would off that first joint from your latest harvest and see what I mean.

Then there's the fact that tobacco in cigarettes isn't. It's mostly shredded puffed rice with flavorings and burning agents and maybe a smidge of real tobacco thrown in because they didn't know what else to do with it.

Whatever benefits may be had in a laboratory analysis from the increased combustion of the weed by mixing it (also means hotter smoke) I'm sure it's offset multiple times over by the harmful effects of the cigarette tobacco in the other 75% of the mix.

Just my 2 cents.

But this study didnt include any info about the dangers involved when you inhail cigarrett smoke while your smokin Herb. That just aint rite. They shoulda included the part bout how Herbs a natural bronko dialator and if you smoke tobakko along with the Herb youl increse the risks associated with smokin tobakko GREATLY because of the fact that the tobakko goes way WAY deeper into your lungs. Deeper then EVER posible without the Herb dialatin your bronkos. Please, For Your healths sake. DONT mix tobakko with Herb. Herbs a medicen that dialates your bronko tubes. Do ya really wanna open'em up wide open like that while your pumpin tobakko into'em?

I respect your opinion and I suspect there could be scientific truth behind it, but this study leads me to believe that the higher THC/CBN would lengthen the duration of a high. Then again the study didn't mention anything about effect duration so I assume more THC/CBN equals a longer duration.

No matter what the tobacco does to the THC I can guarantee that the ciggy smokers cant taste the weed like the non ciggy smokers. Taste is everything!!!

Does this really count for blunts as well? Not big on tobacco either, but I do like a cognac-dipped blunt!
