Just try it and thats the best thing i can tell you. Please try the method that was stated in the beginning of this thread before any other tweaking gets put into the method if you do happen to try it. This is how its been done in my family for years. If you want to see final product look at PLANIT GROWITS old thread in the Mandala section called A few beautiful Mandala pictures and skim down a ways and look for the hash hash oil pics as this was made the same way. Hash and hash oil for the most part will be dark not often do we see blonde hash or blonde hash oil where i am. The reason for the acetone is its evaporating capabilities, dump some out next to some ISO in diff dishes and watch the difference, you will be their all day phukin with ISO as the acetone is gone in litteraly seconds, and they are both poison . Hopefully this helps your decision, like i said in the beginning of the thread plant food is poison and its not always flushed completely out and i am sure that it cant be any better for you. And the acetone does in no way phuk with flavor. GAURANTEED.

Im fully flaggin for acetone if there isnt better- / easily & reasonable priced solvents available. Even bug amount of acetone are evaporated in minutes!!

Dont know the meaning of word tweaking, but it´s common sense that the less time you flush your material in solvent, the less unwanted material is solving into final product and thats for sure!!

I have no doubt about your "family" method, but thinking the issue little further with common sense > it makes sense that the less time solving > the less unwanted plant material in the oil, right?? + the fact you can make different grades of oil using different flush times

With my method, the first flush produces hard oil with great quality and the second one produces good quality oil without it sticking into fingers and the third is runny, totally black that is a bitch to wipe off your fingers because it´s veeery sticky!!!

IMHO, we shouldnt stick just to old methods, but aim to higher quality product, just my thoughs & :2cents: of the subject... Not trying to diss anyone´s method if their happy with it!

+ wanted to back you up from my first post in this thread about acetone use, because many of this forums OILguru´s think it´s poisonous & not suitable for oil making!!!

This way, or that, it´s all good when the maker is happy with the end product :2cents: Peace!!!!!!!!

Well you definitely have my interest, right now I'm working my way through a gallon of iso that I was (with great thanks) given a little while ago but when that runs dry acetone may be right up my alley cause at the store up the street 99% iso is $5 for half a liter, (I know that dosn't help some people but I don't know what that is in gallons, but less then an 1/8 I know that much) so if acetone's cheaper my hands my be tied.

I would maybe stick to ISO if it wouldnt be some ridiculously priced :chin: Check it out > 5 - 7 € for 0.1 L = deprivation IMHO!!

So I stick to acetone in 5 L cans which is 1+some Gal.

1 Gal = 3,785 L, so if I were you, I would stick with ISO with the prices you have!

Dont know, evryone should experiment different solvents, to find whats most suitable for them :chin:

I can use more then half a L in one session so at $5 per 500ml I can't do that.
Half a litre? how much are you trying to make? If this helps on how much you would need try this, use a 20 oz plastic soda bottle, grind up enough weed to fill up the bottle 1 inch, which should be about an 8th, add just enough acetone so that it is about 1 inch above the top of the weed, that shoud be a very little bit of acetone. That will not produce much but will give you an idea of what is possible. It doesnt take much. hope that helps. If not sorry half to go another route

:chin: imo it sounds like :beat-dead not healthy.., acetone dissolves plastic and evaporation will not remove it from your oil.

It only dissolves certain plastic or glass could be used. Evaporation gets rid of most all of it and the burning it before smoking it takes care of the rest. This isnt for everyone though i understand your concern.

I’ve suspected it was an oldtimer' suggestion re-extracting resin from polar solution into non-polar.

I’ve thought that modern behavior rejects such solvents as even lighter fluid for the sake of health, safety and ecology.

But after acetone has appeared on the scene in a plastic bottle… i have to react.

Acetone dissolves EveryThing into extract like no other solvent.

I earnestly suggest to all brave acetone users to clean up their extracts before smoking.

Acetone, like ISO is often sold in plastic bottles. Only use the same type of plastic that the acetone bottle was made of. I think it might be HDPE plastic. Glass is always the best option when in doubt.

I'm not sure why so many think that ISO is less toxic than acetone. ISO is oxidized by the liver into acetone, so they have about the same level of toxicity. ISO is 2-propanol and acetone is 2-propanone. The body actually naturally biosynthesizes acetone in small amounts from ketones, especially when on a ketogenic (low carb, high fat (atkins)) diet.

It is more flammable and volatile than ISO, however so it must be handled accordingly. So long as the acetone is pure, it is handled properly and it is purged thoroughly, there is no more to be concerned about than if you were using ISO. Don't confuse this as an endorsement for acetone though. Use whatever you feel comfortable with. I prefer butane myself.

Ah gunna you beat me too it! I was doing some reading and found the same thing, the main thing is the added safety precautions must be taken but the quick evaporation is a sweet bonus.

Thank you for breaking that down. Much love.

You guys familiar with ethyl mercapetin? the contaminant that is added to butane by law?
oil soluble, stays in the final product, affects the central nervous system, is accumulative in the body?
anyone do any research on this???

worth checking out for any of you buty heads...

By law I think that mercaptans only have to be added to butane/propane/natural gas that is intended for domestic use. It is only in some butane refill canisters because it's the most readily available form of butane and therefore the cheapest form of butane to use. It isn't added to the majority of butane refills that are labelled as being refined. You'll know if it's been added to your butane because it stinks!

Can anyone clear this up? I AM a BHO head and I've always wondered if there was some kinda nasty leftover in the final product.

Bubbleman, ya know if Vector and other high-end butane contains ethanethiol?
