HIGH - The True Tale of American Marijuana

i watched it.... it was alright, kinda high school project-ish, but he hit some good points... that police training scene was straight fucked up! i thought that was the most powerful part of the movie. and i liked the part where he asked that lady on the street what she thought about drugs, got the typical "drugs are bad" answer, then he asked her if she thinks people should be incarcerated for drug use, and you could tell by the look on her face that she had never thought about it before, that people are actually being torn from their families and jailed for smoking pot.... i think if more people knew what goes on in the jails/prisons they would realize how the punishment doesn't fit the crime..... thanks for turning me on to this movie, i'm walking away a little wiser thanks to you

Very good documentary. i agree that the prison raid was one of the strongest points, as well as the drug czar's take on the issue. thanks for the heads up

Downloading now - thanks, can't wait to see...

**Edit** Wow - that prison scene was jolting, and scary. Imagine what goes on, in real life, when there are NO cameras around??? The DEA "facts" and quotes are astoundingly flimsy to outright lies. And I was happy to see all the Medical associations that had no problem telling them so, in writing no less...

That was good film - thanks for sharing...

Downloading it now can’t wait, and some of the other’s you guys mentioned sound good as well. I watched the independent movie Humboldt County that came out a little while ago and it was pretty good and had quite a bit about the culture up there, or their version of the culture up there.

Thanks for sharing. Some fucked up shit goes on due to "the war on drugs". That prison scene was crazy. Going to watch part 2 now.

I saw this a couple months ago, and while I feel like "Grass" would be better to show to someone completely uninitiated (it's more about the history and stuff), this movie delves more into the present.

The scene with the cops is very disturbing. I can't believe that this kind of behavior is even tolerated, much less advocated or taught to cadets.

I did think that the narrator/personality seemed a bit nervous (considering it's about pot), but he was very intelligent and provided keen insights into why he was showing what at the time. The pain killers part at the end seemed a little less related to marijuana than it should have been, but it does illustrate the very valid point that the DEA will drag someone through the mud just because, and that they don't care if it affects real people.

When "enforcement" is the number one goal of an organization, you have to wonder what kind of motives are fueling their actions.

I liked the part with the radio interview w/ the drug czar.

Good watchins, very educational.

That one reminded me of some certain scenes that played out in Iraq. It shows that the human rights situation in regards to prohibition has gone from bad to worse, and that they obviously intend to take it one step further still. :fsu:

I got it on dvd right before it came out.

Best line of the whole thing is when the girl outside the whitehouse asks "What does marijuana do??" and the chick behind her goes "It gets you high, you idiot"

haha that gave me a good laugh.

The prison shit is crazy tho all for what may or may not be a roach. and could have been there for god knows how long before that.

The doctor stuff is crazy too, where the 1st doctor is screwed by the dea...then the next doctor takes all his patients....then they say hmmm....he's writting so many prescriptions....he must be dirty too.....so they ruin his life and allllllll the many patients he was helping. What a joke that was.
