What's new

is mixing calmag+ and SM90 bad?

I have taken samples of my roots and checked them out under a microscope.
It is easy to see the Bacillus rods right there on the root.

I am very very interested in this guys. I have become a lover of SM-90 as of late for both res and foliars......but i also kinda am starting to refocus on my roots and how they affect my yield. I hit my new cuts with EA/EN today and also have myco madness soluble i plan to inoculate my roots with. I held off on my SM-90 due to this "rumor"/"fact" that it is bad for benes.

Great point/counter point guys.....you both bring alot to the table on this matter. :2cents: I hope to find Dongle to be right cuz while I would like to start using benes for root growth i wont sacrifice the cleaning power of SM-90. Plus it smells great!:joint:

WTF, guys: how many passive-aggressive dick-measuring posts does it take to resolve a question?

That's why I've always kept my posts to cannabis growing forums like IC to a minimum. Everything ends up being a pissing match. You'd think puffing fine herb would make people a bit more respectful, but instead we get this.

Thanks for the helpful contribution to help resolve the question.
We can all rest easy now.

By the way, you are taking this way too seriously.
This is the internet.
All in good fun.

While we all wait eagerly for the test results can anyone talk about how and when they use sm-90 and why? So far have heard that it is good but dont know why, would love to learn more.

Thanks!

I use it to help keep my roots stay clean and sexy in my cloner and pots. I also spray if the tops of my pots and leaves b4 heavy budset to help keep the plants clean and pest free as late into flower as possible. I got gnats with my coco and being perpetual i just stay on top of it. Just wont shut down and stary over for just gnats or any bug really. Just gotta suppress them IMO....its a garden and critters are gonna find it.

I use it to kill fungus gnats in my coco too, lol. It says its a root enhencer but personally I have better results with rhizotonic for root growth.Im also using it to prevent powder mildew and spider mites (hopefully).

I asked Kelly at Nutrilife for an update.
Here is the email he sent me:

Hi,

No bother, I have spoken with the micro-biologist and he has assured me that the SM-90 was not interfering with colonization of beneficial's in the root zone, he has since been called to duty, ( he is also a special ops, U.S. Marine) and as soon as he gets back from ?? he will forward me the complete test reports.
Thank you
Kelly

Called them up and asked.

They said:
Add sm-90 to your reservoir each change, allow it ~48hrs to "work it's magic" then add bennies to recolonize.

So yeah. It kills everything. Sterile or bennies. There is no between.

Hope that helps!

Triethanolamine | Cosmetics Info
www.cosmeticsinfo.org/ingredient/triethanolamine
Triethanolamine, Diethanolamine and Ethanolamine are clear, colorless, viscous liquids with ammonia-like odors. In cosmetics and personal care products, ...

Functions of Triethanolamine:

Triethanolamine is an amine produced by reacting ethylene oxide (considered highly toxic) with ammonia (another known toxin). It is used as a buffering agent, masking and fragrance ingredient, and surfactant, in addition to its primary use as a pH adjuster. Treithanolamine is used in a variety of cosmetic and personal care products, including eyeliners, mascara, eye shadows, blushers, make-up bases and foundations, as well as in fragrances, hair care products, hair dyes, wave sets, shaving products, sunscreens, and skin care and skin cleansing products (Wikipedia and CosmeticsInfo.org). Triethanolamine is also used with in conjunction with fatty acids to convert acid to salt, which in turn becomes the base for a cleanser, according to OrganicConsumers.org. Additionally, it may assist in emulsion formation by reducing surface tension of the substances, enabling water and oil-soluble ingredients to mix.

Triethanolamine is FDA approved as an indirect food additive (aka it can be used in packaging) and CIR approved with concentration limits. The CIR determined that Triethanolamine was "safe for use in cosmetics and personal care products designed for discontinuous, brief use followed by thorough rinsing from the surface of the skin. In products intended for prolonged contact with the skin, the concentration of Triethanolamine should not exceed 5%."

Safety Measures/Side Effects of Triethanolamine:

Triethanolamine is considered a moderate hazard ingredient by the Cosmetics Database, which notes as concerns. According to Cosmetic Ingredient Review, Association of Occupational and Environmental Clinics, and the U.S. National Library of Medicine, there is strong evidence that Triethanolamine is a human skin, immune system and respiratory toxicant. One or more animal studies show sense organ effects at very low doses, especially when used around the mouth, eyes and lips, and one or more in vitro tests on mammalian cells show positive mutation results. It has been shown to cause bladder and liver cancer, as well as changes in testicles.

According to OrganicConsumers.org, Triethanolamine can cause allergic reactions including eye problems, dryness of hair and skin, and could be toxic if absorbed into the body over a long period of time. It can cause itching, burning, scaling, hives, and blistering of skin, all symptoms which may increase with higher concentrations (The Green Beauty Guide).

Triethanolamine "should not be used in products containing N-nitrosating agents to prevent the formation of possibly carcinogenic nitrosamines."

Recommended Products with Triethanolamine:

Hair Vitality Complex ($49 in the shop), E'shee's Multi-Tensor Extreme Face Lift Serum ($159), Amarte HydroLift Cream ($70), Nature's Beauty Bee Kiwi Hand and Nail Repair Cream ($19.50), Medik8 Firewall ($145 in the shop), M.A.D Skincare Radiant Brightening Mask ($38 in the shop)

As much as possible, products in the Truth In Aging shop are chosen for their safety profile as well as effectiveness.

SM 90 cleans up a springtail invasion in coco, and yes, SM 90 smells nice.

I find this strange that they would make it smell good. You would think you wouldn't want to be smelling it with the Toxin in it. Not sure how bad it is but I would think you would want to make the product smell rabk so people arn't taking big wiffs saying gee that smells good dont need a mask to spray it. When it should be just the opposite. Or maybe they didnt make it smell good on purpose ,maybe one of the plant extracts actually smells like lemon , got me.
