i have a pioneer t5 6 bulb setup in a cab that is 2x4x4 and it is really hot
so hot that i turn two of the bulbs off to keep it where i like it, probably have to keep the lights further away then you think, i do not have it all dialed in yet, the plants i put in there were too tall. i thought you could usually put plants right into fluoro bulbs but this is not the case here. get a good fan for cooling peace and smoke

t5s are great but most people think they dont get hot, this is wrong. i kno from my set up which is a 4 bulb 4ft t5 fixture with two 2bulb t8 fixtures on either side of that (kinda like a 8bulb). they are mixed spectrums and they perform like champs. since mine are so long i get like heat pockets under my lights. i have one fan set at the end of a closet and another one mid way blowing up through the canopy.

what kind of setup are you running with these t5s-i hope just not going to grow from seed with this light setup. i would suggest scrog, sog, or extreme lst because these lights make shitty light penetration. you will love it though i bought them for the same reason you did low heat. i live in an area that is always naturally hot so thats why i opted for these kind of lights. they work great but still produce enought heat to where you need good ventilation. the biggest problem is getting a fan to blow the whole length of the lights to cool it down as heat pockets can be an issue. i still place my plant tops (in scrog) 3-4 inches away and my plants are soooo bushy!

From the pic it appears the bulbs are spaced a bit further apart than the other T5 models I've seen. Which is a good thing I reckon. If the reflector is bent properly and of good quality you got a super deal at 149 pounds (=$217)

Let us know how it works out for you.

what up, i got a t-5 and i love it. its 24in long and has 4 tubes, 2 red 2 blue. its 125w i think but i use it for veggin, seedlings, and right now its being used for mothers. beasically everything but flowering ive tried them for. mine is pretty low heat. It's in a box with just a pc fan and the temps fo from 72-78 or so. i can keep the plants like 2 in away from the bulbs too.

Your unit has two electronic ballasts located midway along each outer side (in the exact place where the damage is). Those ballasts can't take much of a beating without developing probs or failing altogether.

Your lucky the dealer is replacing it and not passing the blame onto the shipper...

WOW IT HAPPENED AGAIN! id be soo f-in pissed if i was you. i also got my lights from htg supply and it came in flawless too. does the box even say fragile on it?

dude if i was you id be cusing the ups guys or something for making your light look liike cottage cheese. i would tell them to make everything right. there a big company and they will give you shit to stay on good terms. i bought an expensive carbon filter from some campany and they messed up my address and couldnt get my package unless i drove an hour away to pick it up. i left bad feedback on the company-the bad feedback effected their business so they sent me a fan and replacement charcoal for free.

yea it sucks for all parties involved and something went wrong somewhere but you shouldnt pay for it, ur not rich like these companies. trust me make a stink, and get some free shit.

I have no idea what those guys are thinking. I've worked in shipping for years and it's obvious that those lights are broken before they're being packed up.

Have them feel the boxes of the 'other' replacements they have there and see if they can feel the polystyrene packing broken.

Better yet, have them open one up and make SURE it's pristine before re-packing and sending to you. (That wad of bubblewrap would be great!)

:yeahthats

What Hydro-Soil said...Something is real fishy here. I'm guessing you're in UK, right? Are these lights being delivered by the British Royal Mail service (or whatever it's called these days) or a private service? Whichever, they ain't gonna screw up twice like this clusterfuck has turned into. The damage in your pics ain't happening between the retailer (Aquaculture Hydroponics) and you. I reckon H-S is correct and your retailer isn't even checking out these units when they receive them. But... maybe they are...read on, young shogun...

I'm curious who the real manufacturer of these lights is? Lightwave? WTF? Never heard of them, but that don't mean jack. Any idents, tags or labels attached to the unit? It might be some crappy little company who wants to cash in on the multi-bulb T5 craze but don't have a clue what a quality product is. I bet dollars to donuts some middleman is sending these out in damaged condition and faulty packaging--the broken styrofoam is a dead giveaway.

I wasn't going to say this before but since seeing your pics I will...The price you paid is way cheap. Like 30% lower than the best deals available anywhere. Your retailer may very well be selling rejects or seconds they got a sweet deal on...

Good luck pal, you are getting screwed well and truly...I reckon by your beloved/trusted Aquaculture Hydroponics guys. If you find out that is the case, put your experience up on the UK canna sites like UK420.com and hit 'em where it hurts -- bad publicity=retail sales

i asked for a refund

i asked for a refund

hi hydro-soil beleve it or not the one in the pic was packed that way and they checked it.but i asked for a refund as the unit they sent in the pics when you pluged it in and before you put the pressed the power switch on the unit there was electricty going through the bulbs..they where going too replace the light for a third time but its too much off a hassle for me too repack the light and spend more money on duck tape too seal up the parcel..so i aked for a refund...later shogun

growth technology

growth technology

hi i forgot too say it growth technology who makews these lights and i paid 160 pounds and here in the uk they retail for about 150-190pounds depending where you buy from just waiting for cash being put into bank account i have also found out it was shipped buy a corour company called
city link which i have heard a lot of people complain about..i have too other
propagation lights called starlights or brightwings..these are made too a good standard where as the lightwave t5 is poorly built..i would like too see one in first class condition..later shogun

So what happened shogun? Or have you electrocuted yourself already? You still waiting for your refund or what? Don't hold your breath!

"...where as the lightwave t5 is poorly built..i would like too see one in first class condition.."

I seriously doubt that will happen because I reckon ALL their units are in a damaged condition when they leave the manufacturing shop. Take that POS apart and check it out--I bet you will see some crappy components and dangerous wiring connections.

DON'T put it back together...then call the hydro store and tell 'em to come pick it up. I bet they won't even bother. I hope you didn't cave in and actually paid the shipping to send it back to the dealer...How much $$$ and time has this trainwreck cost you already??? Cut your losses right now!!!

Do yourself a favour and buy a quality product (TekLite, SunBlaze, Pioneer, New Wave) whatever. They might be a tad more expensive but you'll get what you paid for. But I think you've already learned that after this clusterfuck:fsu:
