First time DWC grow

If you did squish it it wold be like cracking an egg! Goo all over, they are real docile and slow, big webs somtimes 4 meters across (support threads) and 1m across in the circle part! They can catch small birds so I hear!

On the seed front, you don't want the rockwool super wet, think of a sponge that you soak then squeeze all the water you can out of it so no more drips just moist and humid.

Can you see the sees in the holes? You should be able to, allows observation so if one gets mold you can take it away from the others and they like to see light and feel the heat off the lamp. If you can see them you can also see when they crack and the little white root that comes out. The health of that root is super important, so if it dies and rots toss the cube or at least quarantine it.

As far as the seeds go, yeah you can see the seeds down in the hole, but just barely, I think Im gonna have a problem with figuring out the moisture deal.... I will have to figure it out. I dont have them to super wet (they dont drip or anything when picked up) also I misted them pretty well about 2 hours ago. So do you think that misting the tops is better than adding water to the container? I added some water to the container last night and it soaked it right up. I think Im just gonna focus on keeping them misted with the spray bottle (360 degree spray bottle I have been using.....go buy one they are awesome for like $5)

So here are some pics of the seeds in there cubes (not real exciting) You can see in one of the pics how I moved the EZ cloner under the t5 with the rubbermaid.

Temps look good, RH is low but its winter and I am guessing your out west so that's typical I think. With the low RH your misting is a good way to give them the little bit of water they might need every now and again. Let them dry out a little bit but not much and not for more than like 8 hours IMO.

Your grow looks pro!! When are you going to flip the girls in the 5 gallons?

Ohh and the spider is not harmful to people and I don't know the exact type (anyone know?) but they may be an orb weaver, I handle them but they freak me out a little bit so not often lol. I keep the medium ones as pets sometimes inside near the doors to outside, I encourage them to set up near a light bulb which attracts insects so they provide a valuable service to me! I hate mosquitoes and black flies biting me when I try to get to sleep!

Well I was going to try and keep the (2) 5 gallons going along with the rubbermaid (for Spo) but damn those ladies take OFF in that dwc. Im trying to hold back the growth a bit but they have really taken off, so to answer your question I am planning on keeping them another 2-3 weeks in there but I think we will have to see. I need to get a couple more started as to keep the grow growing ya know........Now I just have to go out and buy some more buckets, pumps and such.......(I bought 12 airstones today just to be ready)

First let me say that I am sorry for the long delay in posts.

Second I would like to commend everyone of you who keep up daily on your threads as well as finding time to throw down some ideas on other threads as well. We all have "other" lives that require us to "try and" focus on other things. Unfortunatley I too have another life that I have to live, so again I am sorry for the delay in posting. I still read on here almost everyday but I hate to post on other threads cuz Im not updating mine and feel that would be wrong.....(lurking in the background)


The plants are doing well.......I should be cutting down my first DWC girl around Feb. 1st (its looking sweet) I have the 2 other original ones in flower a little behind the first.......

I have to say that these are the healthiest, most crystaleeeeee, plants I have ever grown.


Update...............I have been using no res all this time, just trying to keep up with the 5 gallon buckets (as far as refilling and ppms) but its been a bit of a hassle....................
So I am gonna go with a res..... 2 actually (2 x 40gallon)
So I bought 2 super heavy duty (farm type) 40 gallon (black plastic..super thick) reseivoirs from a feed store down the road (big R....long way down the road) for $40 a piece.....so with tax like $90.....((bought some candy as well...hehe))

Im looking to buy a pond liner to go ahead and put on the floor of the bloom room (had blue tarps for awhile now, with carpet underneath).........but I figure with 80 gallon in res & multiple 5 gallon buckets better safe than sorry ya know................
I think I need like 20length x 16width for the room (thats in feet sorry)......ANY IDEAS where to purchase ???????? Anyone have any online luck???? What mil do I need??? I will be walking on it and stuff so how thick do I need???

Also I will be needing some help on hooking up the res soon.......So thanks in advance for your help............

Yo Deft.........bro I want to say thanks for keeping up and keeping me going with this...........Also for all your help along the way..........Im gonna take some pics of the girls (fingers crossed for ladies) that I popped in the rockwool soon and put them up. I decided to take most of the rockwool off of them and put them in the EZ cloner until the roots get a little longer (and its working)

I just cloned the crap out of 1 of the girls in the 5 gallon buckets (side by side it was gonna be) so Ill post some pics soon.....I run mine a little slower than you I think...And also the 2 5 gallon dwc are under a 400 watt HPS and the 2 in the rubbermaid are under a 4ft 8 bulb t5 deal.....so the growth rate is off, I usually start 2 under the T5's, and then move them to the hps before moving them on into flower. So the ones under the 400 watt are bigger (and older) than the ones under the T5s. But I will get some pics up soon brotha.............

I found My local pet store the cheapest. But home depot had pond kits that include liner and a pump. I found shipping to be the internet killer.

I'd just use like 3 layers of clear plastic, pond liner seems expensive but maybe I am wrong. If you track in a little rock in your boots it could poke a hole in it though.

Yeah Im thinking about just ripping up the carpet.......for a room that size they want like $300 for the 40 mil pond liner. Its concrete underneath so I think Im just gonna go ahead and take the carpet out.


Deft: The seeds are doing really well.......I only got 3 out of 4 (or 5) but I have the 3 in the EZ cloner and they have been sprouting new leaves (very small and fragile still though) and the roots are getting longer. Im in the process of chopping down my last three girls that I grew in dirt so Ill free up some room in bloom for 2 of the plants from veg and then Im gonna throw those lil ladies into some sort of dwc deal (maybe a small rubbermaid) so as to grow out and determine sex.

Also for those who are still paying attention (I know..I know.....no updates or pics lately) The 2 ladies I put in the 18 gallon rubbermaid (like defts) are getting big. But I just realized that with them being side by side like that Im not gonna be able to grow them to the size that I need to for the light heigth in the bloom room so I think I might just put them in some 5 gallon buckets. They are actually growing really nice but I know I need them bigger for good light penetration. Guess I was high when I decided to do that one, but whatever.........

Also Im looking at finishing up the 2 40 gallon res's in the bloom room next week....Just need to figure out a nice safe (no leaks) plumbing system.
I think Im gonna go with a large ball valve off of the bottom res and Id like to go from that into some sort of distribution system (8-12 different valves with shutoffs) so that I can build as needed.

So any ideas or suggestions on purchasing valves hosing and such would be greatly appreciated.
Also if anyone knows of any diy threads around with similar res size I would like to hear about it please.

3 out of 4 is not bad for your first try!

Too bad about the 18gal, you think they are just too close together? I decided on the 18 gal for les rez changes and a more stable system because of the big volume. I think its the perfect way to grow under a 250 or 400.

Yea pond liner sucks and is wicked expensive, I used to work at a retail place that sold pond stuff and I was always surprised how much thick liner was. You could just use panda or that clear plastic stuff which is cheep to make clean up easy and prevent staining if you spill nutes or anything on concrete.

Another problem that Im having now is that my plants are getting to big and fat and they cant support themselves in the hydroton. Since I am running the 5 gallon buckets I dont have anywhere to attach any sticks to the base to support the plants. Gosh Darn buds getting to big........man I wish they were smaller..........NOT..... I try and run a perpetual system so I think a screen deal would be a little tougher. What do yall think??
Maybe a few smaller screens?? Any advice on that?? Its really only the oldest one right now but I cant even keep it standing up its so big..........Crappy problem to have I know (I hate to even bring it up) but still a problem nonetheless..........

Whadya think???? So sort of screen system in the future? Maybe a smaller screen for like 2 plants at a time?

Strings and hooks in the ceiling I see in a lot of larger hydro grows it seems.

I wonder if those tomato supports would work, you know.. the ones with like 3 wire rings held up by 3 wire supports that also poke into the ground. You could cut the support wires jutting out and use the big ring as a base... but you would have to do that before the plants get big since I bet it'd be hard to fit one on in flower.
