What's the longest you've kept a strain around?

Cool, I am a believer. I never kept mothers around so long as a single plant, I have clones I have had for over 20 years, but I re-clone them each year. I put them in soil under long photoperiod each spring and let them go by years end I have plants that are 15 feet tall, I make new clones and trash the big one, replaced by a new cutting from the big mom. I found it the easiest way to keep a clone library alive with very little maintenance, but I have a lot of space.
I am amazed that Cannabis will live so long if not flowered, I really had no idea, as I had no need to keep them alive more then a year or so. This is really handy for people that want to keep a lot of diversity around in a small space for a long time.
I think the reason my stalks were so much bigger from one year of growth is they were really big plants grown in the soil with no root trims, maybe I might top the plant to give me more time until I had to replace it, but I just let it grow veg...and they got big!
Thanks for sharing the info....

I always keep my mothers small and let them live for 1-2 years or more if they stay healthy, usually after one year of veg I take a lot of cuttings and keep the healthiest ones and gow myself a new mother. The longest I have kept a single plant alive is over two years, have seen even older plants...some seem to stay in veg no matter what you do as long as the light cycle stays over 18hrs light, some start flowering after a while, rootsize/pot/feeding etc play a big role imo..

the origins of HAVOC: Years ago, when I was on the cannabisculture forums, I had very cool person gift me some seeds of a strain called "Wraffie"...I nurtured them, and let the plants go to seed, I had a very good seed run and consequently gifted many(read that as a huge number of) folks beans world-wide...I promised the creator I would and truely felt compelled to share the "Wraffie" with as many people as I could...
Wraffie is a multicross of whitewidowXsoma sk/romberryXafghani...it was a fast finisher(45 Daze) that kicked great big frosty trichome covered buds and tasted fruity and hashy at the same time....very nice....so by accident,I crossed the "Wraffie" to Sensi Seeds "NL#5xHaze"....the cross, "(not even named by me, but by a winner of a long ago name my strain contest,..but thats another story).."HAVOC" is really something amazing, the hashy fruit flavors hit you right away, the chunkiness of the NL definately gives this strain great bag-appeal, and combined with the trippiness of the Haze, its been a favorite of my circle of friends for quite some time now. That`s all well and good, but there is a sad part to the story, I never got any males to do a seed stock crop out of the resulting seeds from the cross,,,,kind of a bummer in some aspects,,,...so I`ve kept this strain going since april of 2003.. over 6 yrs,....probably not a record or anything,,.it`s just a great strain that I just can`t come up with a good enough reason to let go under, long live the Havoc!!!........peace...G.

Hey big-G,

Great to find you here and ironically enough your Wraffie is in my outdoor garden this year:) If you remember that far back, you gifted me 10 seeds about 6+ years ago and I finally got around to growing them. I had given 5 to a friend, but he dropped them ball and they did not survive.

This year a germinated the 4 remaining and managed one beautiful girl, which I have pollinated with an outstanding Blue Moonshime male from DJ Short (circa 2000)! If you are interested, I would be happy to gift you some seeds from this so that you still have the wraffie available, albeit in another form:)

Cheers
