Oh, well I would shoot for Dec to Apr for best results in my opinion. But like I said you can flower year round, I think it harder in summer though.

really so its almost always 12/12 here? if it is how do you get a veg season? i figured the summer would be terrible growing weather becuase of the heat obviously. i kno plants dont grow well into the 90s. i guess im prolly going to use some kind of haze or african heritage for down here.

what are you guys having good results with?

Well almost, usally around like 11/13 or something close, but I usally don't have any problems flowering throughout the year. You can veg outdoors all year but you will only be able to veg for a month or so in the winter/spring. Summer is really our best time to Veg because of the different light cycle (stays darker later). You start a late season sativa in june or july and veg it almost the whole summer. The heat is a problem somewhat but the bigger problem is doing all that hard work and having a hurricane come a screw it all up. But then again I lucked out this hurricane season and grew straight through it.

To answer your other question, I would look for a mold resistant/ heat tolerant strain. I've had my best luck with c99 (GN 03 collection) and pure power plant , but then again I have only tried a few dozen outdoors. So I'm sure there are some other great strains you could find. A haze strain would probably do good through the summer because you could veg it long and grow some trees :)

How'd everyone do with the last cold snap? Some of my tropicals look like hell now, even after covering. Sucks, I'm borderline zone 10a... hope that doesn't start changing.

Got some Super Silver Haze f2's going right now 12/12 from seed. They are about 18 in. and growing. Getting some weird smells off them, although i haven't grow SSH haze before. I'm hoping i can find a winner for outdoors.

dbfr3sh, some sativas, like Haze and Skunk, can veg in Florida from late April until late August. Any seed plant will stay in veg until it is sexually mature, and it seems sativas stay in veg longer than indicas. Clones have the age of the momma, hence are already mature. I have been growing indicas lately, so I veg indoors and put a few outside to flower each month during the dry season.

Outdoor heat really isn't a problem the way indoor heat is. Many strains grow in climates that are much warmer than ours. The bigger problems with outdoor grows are pests, pestilence, and poachers. As far as going with African strains, I think Durban is an early strain, so it wont veg in Florida once it is mature. That is a good way to go though if you want to veg indoors.

Spicoli, I know what you mean about those hurricanes. Even tropical storm force winds can destroy plants. That is another advantage to the veg indoors and bloom outdoors approach. We can grow in containers, so when a storm approaches, we move the plants into the garage for a couple days. Also, since we put a few plants out every month, we don't have a whole year's worth of plants outside at the same time. What really sucks though is when we lose electric power for a couple weeks in a row, forcing the mom to bloom. It takes a year to recover from that.

Johnny, I think that SSH should do well in So. Fla., but I don't know for sure. Sam the Skunkman has a HazexSkunk that should be a great fit here and widely available.

Aerial surveillance, whether helicopter or air plane, is a very much overblown concern for all but the biggest commercial growers. Even if a plant is fully ripe and huge, say ten feet tall and ten feet wide, you have to get pretty close to it to suspect that it might be cannabis. I visited a friend and looked for his pair of five foot plants and couldn't find them from 15 feet away. There is no way to tell from the air. I saw an police pilot interviewed on TV news. He said they look for a large patch of vegetation that doesn't blend in because it looks tended. Growers supply food and water to their plants. That is what makes them stand out in the wild. The pilot said he has to fly pretty fast and high, so he is only going after very large patches. Once he identifies a suspicious patch, he has to dispatch ground based law enforcement to check it out. That is pretty expensive too, so they wouldn't bother with a small suspicious patch.

One Florida grower documented one of his backyard grows. He constantly fills his backyard with cannabis plants. The grow he documented here produced, I think, a couple hundred pounds. He has never had a problem with fly overs. It is perfectly natural to see a cultivated garden in a backyard. In his particular situation, I think his big concern was if a neighbor climbed a tree to trim some branches.

Also, keep in mind that the police focus on September and October for the flyovers because that's when plants will be the biggest and easiest to spot.

Damn Blaner123Doobie those are some pretty ladies. What strain is that if you mind me asking. As for the cold snaps I love them ( adding some purp to the crop ain't bad :) ), i'm indoors for now though. So can't say for the outdoor ppl how they did.

Yes, he was busted, but i don't think it had anything to do with fly overs.

Anybody in here ever hear of or get the strain "Mango". To my knowledge its a local florida strain. I think this because I have smoked with many people through out the state with this strain and they all know what it is first hit. Just curious because it is also readily avaiable around me. Their are many versions, I dont know if its the actual "Mango Strain" thats just whats its called, but it is some good bud
