Baby's phone call from indoor marijuana farm lands dad in jail

OTTAWA (AFP) — The Royal Canadian Mounted Police responded to an emergency 911 call in which the caller hung up without saying a word, Constable Janelle Canning told AFP.

The officers entered the White Rock residence, after knocks at the door went unanswered, she said.

"The father was very surprised to see us and insisted he hadn't called police," she said. "The officers then observed his 11-month old child playing with a cordless phone, pressing buttons randomly."

The mystery caller was identified, she said. "It appears the baby called us."

During a routine search of the house, the officers also uncovered 500 marijuana plants in two locked rooms on the main floor.

The 29-year-old father was arrested and faces charges of production of a controlled substance and mischief. He is to appear in court in April.

The baby boy was removed from the home by the Ministry of Children and Family, and was later released into his mother's custody.

Charged with "mischief?" WTF!?!?! Shouldn't the BABY be the one charged with mischief?

that right there is my nightmare. my son loves to grab the cordless phone and mash the bottons. i tell my girl 1000x a day " dont let him touch the phone".

even though i have nothing growing atm, i dont need the cops showing up. i know for a fact that 911 hangups are always checked out. when i was 10 years old, i called 911 for shits and giggles and hung up. they called back and my dad answered. he said " the police are coming by" i levitated up the stairs and was under my covers within 3 seconds. cops showed up and talked to my dad and i caught some serious shit.

they dont need a warrant.

they have to check it out, you could have a young Cambodian boy in a 50 gallon drum in the basement.

Well, I have heard on the scanner many 911 calls that were accidental - usually by ppl who have it on speed dial. Seeing as a 911 call WILL result in an unwanted visit, even if you talk to the operator and say it was an accident/all is OK. The fuzz will still come to verify, and if they see/smell anything - you're screwed.

So IMO, anyone having 911 on speed dial is a candidate for a Darwin award. After all, speed dial is 1 button, 911 is 2... just how much time is saved by speed dial, and is the possibility of an unwanted or mistaken button push resulting in a LEO visit worth it?

Imo, NO!!! keep 911 off that speed dial!! (unless you like police visits, and I doubt many here do...)

Peace

A while back I get a call with a strange ring, thinking telemarketer or something as there was no name or number showing in the ID. It's the 911 operator asking if I just called. I said No I did not & she says OK. Now I thought all 911 calls were to be checked out, so it's not sitting well with me. I ask my kids if they used the phone but no one was near it they all just got home & the main one is at my desk.

I ask the gf to go upstairs & check that extension, just as I tell here not to use redial she does but hangs up! Than the same ring again, I answer & it's the same operator asking if I've called. I tell here we were checking the phones after her call & tried the redial but we never called 911 in the first place. I have surveillance so I'm now expecting a unit to pull up any second. She says we understand & sometimes it's a glitch in the phone system!?!

I made sure I was not invoiced for the calls.

I remember doing that once as a kid, just calling to see what would happen, when someone picked up, Id hang up. Needless to say, I got a stern talking to from my grandma who has to explain to the cops that her grandson was making crank calls to the emergency service.

Umm...... Why did the cops enter the 2 locked rooms inside the house? If the dad and baby were in the house why didnt the dad just keepem in the livign room or walkem outside?

The cops kicked down the two locked rooms in front of the dad's face?

That is insane, dumb baby ahah.

Funny about 911, my friend got busted for pills and decided to give a few friends up to get a lower sentence or some shit so he supplied the station with phone numbers.
We get a text message saying "We know you the stuff turn it in and you wont be in any trouble" thats from an unknown sender and we reply back "Wtf, who is this" next thing we know cops are following me and some buddies around for a few hours.
Thing is that caller was from an email and he changed who it replies to and it was the 911 station or whatever.
Be careful.

i don't generally like kids and would never have any of my own, however lets say for the sake of conversation i did have a kid i wouldn't keep him in the same house as my 500 plant grow. sorry not while we live in a police state. maybe i would if the laws were different but with prohibition that's not anything i am putting around my child. say he got busted some other way and it was the dea breaking down the door with guns drawn and ready to shoot and maybe kill. and then with 500 plants i imagine rippers, thieves, etc. could be an issue at any given moment if your not on top of your game 100%.
just my opinion though.

500 plants was definitely a commercial grow op. So yeah this guy has some fucked up ethics. Wonder how much wattage this guy was pulling for these 500 plants... Fire hazard?
