What's new

Long time lurker, first time poster, first time grower. Couple questions.

Hey there! I'm from the Midwest (IL) and I have been looking into outdoor growing for about a year now. I plan to grow a sativa, because there's only Indicas around here and I hate being couchlocked. I'm looking for a good yield (enough to last until next harvest, and then some) and a relatively short flowering period considering I am from IL. I realize this will be tricky with a Sativa.

I am looking into growing Kali Mist. I do NOT want the afghan crossed version. I want that full, soaring high. Where can I find this? I believe Serious Seeds only sells the Afghan cross. Perhaps Sagmartha's Western Winds are the originals? I want this sativa because of the supposedly "exotic" high and is is supposedly very mold-resistant. Basically, I want a sativa I can grow safely that will get me energized and creative for studying or parties :) Any tips on finding a seedbank (or person) selling the old school Kali Mist would be GREATLY appreciated!

I'm also looking into ordering some Kona Gold. Any other Sativa suggestions are welcome! (maybe even some really good Indicas)

I will post another thread in the outdoor section where I will have questions about growing in general (I'm trying to keep this on topic)

The problem would be triggering flowering. You can put a plant out but you can't make it flower when you want it to. I just grew some sats in a window and they didn't start to flower until October.

Ah, geez...now I see. Well, do all strains (with the exception of auto-flowering) begin to flower at 12/12?

Anyway, I suppose I will have to set up a time every day where I cover the plants outdoor in order to force flowering about 75 days before the beginning of frost...

Then, I could grow some WW, right? :p

Say that doesn't work, then would it be impossible to grow a sativa dominant strain?

WW is an indica.

What type of outdoor setting do you have available?
Backyard?
Side of a barren cliff, hundreds of miles from roads and running water?
Makes a difference :)

If you're going to be doing it in your yard, do you have a small shed?

Building small, rollable scrog tables would allow you to roll your harvest into a light-proof, temp controlled, shed for their 12 hours of darky.

I've heard that Cinderella-99 does excellent outdoors and it's a 45 day strain. :)
That would probably make things easier for ya.

She's potently energetic and a creeper to boot, so you'll be very happy. :)

Many varieties will flower with less the 12 hours of dark but, 12/12 will trigger most any strain.

I'd avoid pure Sativa's in the wild. Attempting a stable night period manually over 12 weeks or more is a hermie accident waiting to happen.

The only time I tried to grow outside I just germinated some bagseeds and threw them in the ground on the edge of the woods next to a field miles away from my home. Too bad I wound up having to move before they ever started to bud... who knows maybe they grew huge, pollenated each other, dropped seeds, and now there's a hefty patch of herb growing somewhere....... I doubt it. Good luck finding the right strain chocobolord.

Thanks to all the responses! I will definitely be looking into C99 with it's short flowering time :)

Sorry Hydro, I meant WesternWinds. :p After posting I thought to myself "aw man...it looks like I'm talking about White Widow..." heh.

Since all I have around here are nature centers and forest preserves which means no shed, I will just have to find a faster flowering strain. I may try Westernwinds, but I don't know how it'll go...

Also, I can't seem to find any places carrying C99. Hempdepot is fresh out of stock on all hybrids :/

I don't know there's any "pure" C99 out there right now. WallyDuck (through Seed Boutique) has some c99 crosses.

No worries :)

Try HERE for C-99. I've heard good reports about Actual's stuff. They only run two strains so far. Actual's Sativa and Actual's C-99.

Personally I'm waiting for Cannacopia to finish their C-99 seed run, though I'll probably have to wait for their second run before I can pick any up.
(Spent all my xmas cash on new lights and nutes LOL)

Hey choco,

I'm in the same boat as you.. on the search for a fast flowering soaring sativa. I've been looking since last season for one and I'm confident that I found it. If you go to unleashdagreen .net, register on their forums and have a look at the RCMC seed listing you can find a a few sativa hybrids for our climate; I'm at 43N. One that stands out for me is BreederBrad's Congolese x Guerilla Gold; silverback has an in depth grow and smoke report on this strain in the Outdoor strain guide of this forum.
The background of the Guerilla Gold is Early Gold x (Afghan x Mighty Mite). Early Gold is Kona Gold x Himalayan.
So a lot of early flowering sativa influence.
And for about the same price as the above list you can get 75 seeds of your choice

Hope that helps

Thanks silverback for the report;

Strain/Breeder: Congolese X Guerilla Gold/ BreederBrad2
Harvest time: Sept 27
Latitude of grow: 38
Location:ky
Average yield: 3.5 oz, decent yielder
Mold?: none
Potentcy: 8+, above average
Year of grow:08
Grow again: Yes, extreeeme stickiness.

My wife wanted a sativa so I grew 4 sativa leaning test strains to see what she liked. Congo X GG, Mandala 1, GH lemon skunk and Texada Timewarp from peak. The Congolose was the superior plant of the group in a number of ways.

-Most importantly, it was cosniderably more potent than the others. Did i mention it is very sticky weed? Flytrap quality.
- it was the most vigorous and hardy by far
- it was the first to finish of the group
- very high mould resistance, the highest in the group
- The plant expressed real drought and pest resistance. It never wilted even though we had an extreme drought. It was like a biblical plague hear for whiteflies this year and even though the plant was covered, it trudged on untreated. No powdery mildew.

This is a very good outdoor strain and properly grown would be an impressive plant in my view. I did'nt get planted until june, in the middle of a scorching drought and got a decent plant by any measue. With a little attention and care, i believe this woulld be one wicked looking girl come late september.

An easy outdoor grow, a tough plant that has good potency. Would be a good choice for new growers or those that cant provide regular care.

This pic was taken about 10 days before chop. The limbs almost fill completely with bud.

I know this isn't for everybody....but.... last year some of my friends and I grew some sativas @ 45 N. We knew the flowering time would be a problem so we started 12/12 indoors...then took them out around the Summer Solstice...and we didn't have a problem with those 12 weekers. Just check the flowering time on your strains, then start 12/12 indoors for 2-4 weeks before the solstice...all just depends

Peace, free
