Here's an EyeClops BioniCam that daddyhaze gave me. I thought it wasn't steady enough out of the box, considering that it mostly relied on holding the lens housing by hand coupled with the fact that the picture-taking button is also attached to the lens housing (pressing the button to take pic moves the entire unit). Horrible design.
Won't let that stop me, though. Stripped to the business end:
Aluminum reflector. Couldn't find chrome.

I just came to this thread because of the title, and I was going to let you all know about the EyeClops BioniCam, but instead I just learned of the next innovation - the stand. Fucking brilliant, man. Thanks.

Missed a few details.
I drilled a hole for 13/64" and tapped it using 1/4"-20NC on the BioniCam, and the other hole is drilled a bit larger to completely clear and slide free on the threads. A smooth rod would have been preferable, but I got a 3ft piece of threaded 1/4"-20NC threaded rod. On the side that threads into the BioniCam, the bottom hole is drilled larger than 1/4" so that it spins freely without interference with the threads. Could have dremeled the rod smooth as well. This way I can do micro-focus adjustments by spinning one of the rods. The second rod serves only as a support, and the hole in the BioniCam for that support is larger than 1/4" so that it slides freely. Hope that makes sense.
The "specimen plate" is a $1 electrical ceiling box cover @ Home Depot. Threaded rod was I think $1.68. Bolt plate was $2.75 or so for the larger, thicker one. A few 1/4" nuts, a few unnecessary wingnuts. 1/4" nuts would'a been fine, since no adjustment is necessary here; initial design was a little different, but didn't feel like going back to Home Depot to exchange wingnuts for bolts.
A few bolts I had lying around because I didn't feel like cutting extra short pieces of threaded rod for balance feet, and there you go.
Home Depot receipt was $6 and change I think.
daddyhaze should be posting some pictures we took using the new stand. Not perfect yet, needs an extension cord for the buttons to make it even more stable and a C-clamp would help to stabilize the whole unit.

Not the best shots but demonstrates more image stability, especially at 200x. Found 400x to be mostly useless for the moment.

Wow, cool. I dont usually check trichs but just today I checked some. Its a PITA because I have to cut a leaf off put it on the table, check it.
Does the screen show real time like when you move the camera or only after you snap a pic?

when the pic is being recorded the screen will go black with a little icon letting you know the image is being captured.
I still find it best to pull/cut a bud leaf off and put it on a table as trying to get the image from a bud on the plant is kinda hard for me...

This is good is good to know I can't seem to get the hang of the radio shack one
They work in real time. Problem with cab shots are twofold. One, the LCD screen can be tricky to see in close, bright light. Two, the Eyeclops comes out of the garden so covered in trichs, you'll want to dry it and smoke it. I cover mine with plastic wrap (Glad, Saran ...) and then cut out an eyehole.
