Vertical lighting Vs. Horizontal lighting

nobody has mentioned what I consider the biggest difference....

Heat.

Reflectors do just that...for both the light and heat. That's why a horizontal setup (w/o aircooling) must be kept a foot++ away from tops to avoid bleaching/burning...

Vertical setup allows heat to rise up away from lamp/plants to top of room...

I think this more than makes up for any possible difference in lumens/meter stuff....

I've grown both ways...the girls really seem to prefer vert unshielded lamps from my experience.

Either way will produce fine results if other environmentals are good...

I'm currently setting up a vert grow and would like any experienced input about dealing with heat. I'll be using 3 x 600 HPS with no reflectors or cool tubes. Should I run a sealed room with a window unit, or passive intake/active exhaust?

I'd just get some cooltubes...3 600w vertical whats your setup...

I am running a 1000w vert in a cool tube with a massive exhaust fan. You can get the plants with in inches* without burning and is the perfect environment for large girls with some CO2.

* this allows for high light density and a greater coverage area. Horizontal grows, because of the heat, you lose some of the benefit of reflection because the bulb has to be so far away from the canopy and you only get a 1/4 - 1/2 of the possible grow area. so even if the light is more intense with the reflector this benefit is offset by the 360 degrees of light coverage you get with a vertical bulb.

Yee Haw!!! That's what I'm talking about, mad props t.o.med! LOL, love the mask. I'm now very jealous. Could you give the specs on that room, ie how many lights and how do you keep temps under control??? Thanks for the pics, awesome.

Keep the info and pics coming on the vertical grows! I am currently trying to figure out the best design for a 9x12x8 room with 4 1k vertical lamps. I want to grow fewer, large plants.

No yield yet, I just built it. It's 512W in the flowering side(about 3.5sqft). The veg side is 68W in 1.3sqft..

No offense, but I suspect that you won't yield much magiccannabus... if they had been T-5's, you would probably yield well enough, but T-8's make wispy buds.
