once my indoor grow room is complete ill have 4 x 400 watt lamps going and the goal is 4 seed strains and some clones from my previous indoor grow

help me decide and pick the 4 strains out of these that are currently my favorites

my goal is potency and yield
im not going to hide the fact that this is going to be a commercial grow
my social security to survive these recession times and have money to keep breeding, buy new seeds, pay for power, invest in new gear etc

i cant guarantee that ill run the 4 with most votes but it will surely give me a clue on which to grow in the first run

ill take clones from all of them for later use.

also i would appreciate some info on why you should pick the strains of you choice
how is the strain regarding to yield, potency, flavor, which keepers etc

heres the seed strains on top of my list atm
currently in my possession or on its way

ak48 ( nirvana)
big bud x northern lights ( nirvana)
Bifrost aka Bubblegum ( Saga Seeds - told to be one of the best BG's ever)
chronic f2 ( Serious seeds f2)
double dutch (Magus genetics)
skunk#1 ( unknown so far)
white russian ( Serious seeds)
Trainwreck ibl (Crazy X Seeds)
Golden skush ( Gypsy Nirvana)
mazar i sharif, afghan hash plants ( Gypsy Nirvana)

multiple votes allowed but please pick only 4 favorites

if it was me i'd go with Double Dutch, White Russian, Trainwreck IBL (i'm looking forward to this 1 as well), then either Golden Skush or Big Bud x Northern Lights:joint:,
i'm looking forward to the Trainwreck IBL once it's released, heard the Arcata clone is supposed to be really strong, can't wait to see how Matts line is:yes:

i thought i would post some pix of the different strains found on Google and info mostly from www.strainbase.dk

ak48 ( nirvana)
577ak_48_1_1.jpg

Since the mid 1990’s “AK” strains have been increasingly popular. Our AK-48 is one of the strongest early finishing strains available anywhere. AK-48 produces hard buds with an exceptional penetrating aroma. AK-48 is an indica/sativa hybrid yet it retains most of its sativa qualities in its high. AK-48 finishes in as early as 48 days if conditions are perfect. Winning SEVEN prizes!! in Cannabis competitions, including second prize for the Best Sativa in the 1999 High Times Cannabis Cup, prove AK-48 is a favorite to smoke as well as to grow.

big bud x northern lights ( nirvana)
n_nlxbigbud.jpg

Northern Lights x Big Bud was developed with both the grower and the smoker in mind. Big Bud has outrageous yields, but tends to be a bit weak for the heavy smoker. Crossing Big Bud with a very potent Northern lights has resulted in a more potent bud while losing only a small percentage of the yield. The smoke from Northern Light x Big Bud is rich and deep and the taste is slightly skunky.

Plant type: Best suitable for indoor growing.
Plant height: Medium- Indica/Sativa mix
Stoned or high?: Stoney yet high- Allround Buzz
THC level: Medium 8-15%
Flowering Weeks: 8
Yield (Sea of Green on one m2) : 550/600
Harvest Month: 9
Grow difficulty: Moderate

Bifrost aka Bubblegum ( Saga Seeds - told to be one of the best BG's ever)
09-okt-04-skab-old-bg-01.jpg

In ancient nothern mythology Bifrost is the name of the luminous bridge, the rainbow, that leads from
Midgaard to Asgaard. Midgaard is the place where the human beings live,
and Asgaard is the habitat of the Gods.
This strain really gets you flying!

In 2001 we got some seeds from an experienced grower in Indiana, USA. I was told that this superb strain was the origin of the legendary Bubblegum. I isolated 3 phenos of which 2 resembles the strain known today. The third pheno was different; more sativa-dominated. These where the genes I focused on. Over the past 6 years we've selected and stabilized the plant. The primary goal has been to keep and develop its sweet aroma, mold resistance and potency. It produces huge buds covered by crystals and has a smell that brings you back to your childhood candy-store. We've bred some excellent in-and outdoor hybrids with this strain and we plan to have some new Bifrost-F1 hybrids ready later in 2008.

chronic f2 ( Serious seeds f2)
ss_chronic.jpg

This medium height, not too dense plant is the perfect combination of good yield and excellent quality. Smokers that know and grow choose this plant for its combination of appearance and sweet smell. With its indica background Chronic can produce up to 600 g/m2 without losing that connoisseur feeling.

Grows a single huge central bud with few side branches. Do not top plants to encourage multiple big buds, as this strain does not respond well. Mild, sweet smell develops while flowering, take care to dry thoroughly after harvest (before packaging) to maintain this subtle fragrance.

o Type: sativa/indica hybrid
o Indoor clone grow time: 7 - 10 days
o Indoor flowering time: 56 - 63 days
o Indoor yield: 350 - 600 grams/m2
o Outside / Greenhouse harvest time: 15-31 October

double dutch (Magus genetics)
doubledutch.jpg

The mostly indica DOUBLE DUTCH is a cross of a Warlock male with a pre-2000 Chronic female. During the seedling & vegetative growth stages, DOUBLE DUTCH shows its indica pedigree with fat leaves, thick stems, and a bushy growth pattern. In the flowering stage DOUBLE DUTCH produces giant Sativa-like buds. All tips that receive copious amounts of light will form huge buds similar to elongated popcorn balls. DOUBLE DUTCH Buds must be staked due to their heavy weight. Performs well in bio, coco and hydro growth mediums. The DOUBLE DUTCH aroma is a pleasant fruity wildflower scent. The buzz is complex and strong. The high is both cerebral and heavy. Expect the buzz to last 2-4 hours depending on the smoker's tolerance level.

skunk#1 ( unknown origin so far)
1600112.jpg

This is the strain that changed cannabis cultivation. The original Indica-Sativa hybrid that has astonished weed lovers for more than a quarter-century is now available as a feminised variety!
The potency of this branch of the cannabis family tree is so notorious that ‘skunk’ is often used as a term for any powerful ganja. Breeders regard Skunk #1 as the benchmark of uniform, reliable performance and her rock-solid genotype has influenced a hundred modern hybrids. Skunk #1’s energetic performance and bountiful yields demonstrate the true meaning of hybrid vigour. Growth and flowering are mostly-Indica in appearance, though Skunk plants gain more height than pure Indicas when blooming. The extra-dark green of this strain’s foliage comes from her Afghan ancestors.
Flowering is very fast and Skunk #1 produces robust stems and branches to support her superior yields. Short internode gaps explode into dense, rounded bud-clusters which merge into huge, heavy colas by harvest time.
Skunk #1’s Sativa genes have a subtle effect on flower structure plus a wonderful influence on her effect - a stunningly potent combination of stone and high!

Flowering: 50 - 55 days
Yield: 100 g
Height: 110 - 130 cm
Indica / Sativa

white russian ( Serious seeds)

serious_white_russian(1).jpg

These seeds produce plants that are fantastic in both appearance and effect. The most typically indica strain, White Russian is a stable cross of AK-47 and White Widow (a prize winning indica clone). Medium height, consistent plants and dense, very resinous flower tops (crystals appear after about 5 weeks of flowering).

With such a strong indica background, the plants smell quite strong during both their growth and flowering period. In an independent seed comparison in which over 150 different seedstrains were grown out in a greenhouse, the White Russian came out as the strongest plant (22% THC, likely to be the strongest plant known at present!!).

o Type: mostly indica
o Indoor clone grow time: 5 - 10 days
o Indoor flowering time: 56 - 63 days
o Indoor yield: 350 - 500 grams/m2
o Outside / Greenhouse harvest time: 15-31 October

Trainwreck ibl (Crazy X Seeds)

This picture was taken by a former icmag member - Ganja pasjer/British Hempire

Heres what woodhorse/medusa say about the TW IBL...

Woodhorse Trainwreck, was Steve Tuck's (HillBilly Dreams Seeds) version of Trainwreck, that we have worked for years now through my Woodhorse breeders.
He had take the Arcata cut (female) and crossed it with pure Afghani (the Indica side of Trainwreck) and then backcrossed it with the Train again.
We have worked it to the point of stability, and it is a true breeding, highly potent and sweet representation of what we are seeking to provide.
The effect's of this strain are very similar to the orginal, and indeed it has it's own unique and positive characteristics as a result of the work we have done with it.

Golden skush ( Gypsy Nirvana)
Golden-Skush-Baccas123-scaled.jpg

Skunk meets Hindu Kush. These two well established strains have come together to produce skush. A great yield combing the ease, yield and quality of the skunk with the best of the Hindu Kush. A classic cross, totally superb!

mazar i sharif, Landrace Afghan hash plants ( Gypsy Nirvana)
note these pix is from Afghanistan hash fields and description from Real Seed Company as the gypsy version is brand new and currently handed out as freebies

061012_plants_vmed_2p.widec.jpg

Genetics: Traditional North Afghan charas cultivar
Type: Traditional landrace/pure-bred
Variety: Indica Giant
Height: 3-4 meters in natural outdoor environment in Mazar-i-Sharif.
Yield: 1.5 to 2 kg of dried flowers in natural outdoor environment
Aroma: pungent, intense terpene aroma, classic Afghan, with some sweetness
Harvest: early December to early January
Characteristics: Unusually large indica strain with classic wide leaved characteristics.

Grown around the desert towns of Balkh, Mazar-i-Sharif and Sheberghan in the far north of Afghanistan, close to the modern borders of Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. This Mazar-i-Sharif strain produces the legendary hashish known as "Shirak-i-Mazar" and "Milk of Mazar". The people of these regions are a patchwork of Turkic, Tajik, Afghan and Pashtun tribes, and the history of Mazar-i-Sharif strains is likely to be equally complex. In fertile and well-irrigated soils these vigorous giants are capable of reaching 4 metres in height or more, and will produce a similarly immense yield of intensely resinous flowers. Traditionally harvested in the first half of December with the onset of the brutal Central Asian winter, Mazar-i-Sharif plants will enjoy cold conditions, including snow, and will turn a deep blood red in low temperatures. Growers favour leaving harvest as late as possible, sometimes into early January. Sieved "Milk of Mazar" garda is very resinous and so can be hand-pressed to make charas; it has a distinctively pungent, sweet aroma and a dreamily mellow high. Over-indulgence produces a mind-warping, immobilising and narcotic effect.

I voted the skush too, along with the TW, BB x NL, and Skunk #1.

Most of those are already on my list of to do's.

That double dutch pheno looks like a real keeper...wowza...

If you are looking at a commercial grow I would go with D. Dutch, W Russian, Nl x BigBud, and chronic......

TrainWreck doesn't produce enough bud and takes like 80 days to flower...if it's the real deal TW...
I also like bublegum instead of chronic if it's for you to smoke....
be safe

im doing this because i just love growing and cant help it, but the harvest must be yielding an amount and quality that i can easy put on the market regaring the surplus that i cant smoke myself.
im also doing this for the clones as i keep clones from most the stuff im running for later use.

i know the trainwreck might not by the best cash crop but its told to be damn potent and its a must in my future gene stable so i guess its a sure winner.

apart from the TW im looking for a harvest that is high in amount, potent and tastes well enough to convince every future buyer that its a quality good enough to spend money on.
im at a very stressed out position cause i was about too loose my job cause of cuts in labor due to recession
so this grow is going to be kinda a life insurance so i dont loose my place and the ability for future grows.

you can call it that i have a gun to my head for a good harvest
so thats why i ask others what 4 strains out of these 10 they would be growing if they were me.

If its yield and quality you want then the chronic F2's should produce some outstanding mother's that yield more then the F1's.All the F2 fem's i've grown have all been potent across the board but like any F2 there's some variation.

perakko

serious seeds are serious with their shit and concerning your situation i'd also suggest chronic and definately also white russian. top notch genetics in that strain and everythings there; yield, taste, high.

i ran one selected cut of white russian and it performed well on every aspect, the taste ended up being the most pleasant part of the plant (lemony, windowcleaner, pungent...) when i took a sniff of a 3 month cured jar, id go on sneezingfury ;) the high was kinda weird but strong, fading between clean up high, and a later settling in to a nice strong buzz.

she was pretty nutesensitive in veg, didn't need much (not a bad thing) but the flowering time was kinda long, 10 weeks of 12/12 but well worth and i know if you get a pack or to you´ll find quicker phenos.

all the best to you and yours!

double dutch looks awesome

pick a few strains you've had a few times
pick a few that you think you'd enjoy trying out

expand your horizons but have some favorites just in case

Like others have said, it really depends on if it's for your stash or for yield purposes?
For quality I would go with Trainwreck IBL, Double Dutch, Bifrost and Skunk#1.
I have heard both good and bad reports on the White Russian (most prefer the Rhino).

Heres an update and some smaller changes
yesterday i had a letter with Trainwreck and Chronic f2 inside but unfortunately they had been handled very rough by some brain dead mail worker

theres new Trainwreck on the way but no more chronics f2

UK Cheese x chronic and Biddy early x chronic will be replacing the chronic f2 instead.
they should arrive soon and hopefully be put into soil at around new years eve.
Bifrost and skunk#1 will hopefully arrive at the same time, and hopefully also the White Russian from Seedbay together with the last pack of Mazar I Sharif

so in the beginning of next year ill see what have arrived and start germination from the stock

please keep on voting and share your experiences with the strains and crosses listed

I've been a fly on the wall for a few of these

conversations... Always the same: Trade off between quality and sativa "soaring" high when people talk about commercial...That explains why there's so much indica c-r-a-p around here...

My 2 cents (from what I gathered-- I'd NEVER do a commercial): The White Russian seemed to get most votes when this topic came up at OG back around 2000....There was a fellow named LABUD that seemed to know what he was talking about and swore by WR for commercial. He said it out yielded the AK, was one or two hit for many. Very, very indica, but prolly light years better than somethin' like Chronic or Big Bud. Super Skunk's probably good..

Be careful.
