Can you estimate when buds are flushed based on when leaves turn yellow?

I assume that you mean the final, clearing flush. The answer is not really. If the bud leaves go yellow, the smoke is usually pretty smooth, but that's not a reliable way to judge. Some plants will turn purple, orange, red etc. and never show yellow. Some plants will turn yellow and still have plenty of N still in them.freeradical said:

i think once you have a strain dialed in you can use the color of the leaves as a sign but it really depends on the amount of time you've been flushing IMO. i've had some strains stay green through weeks of flushing and in all reality, it was some of the best herb i've had. but for us to look at those leaves and be able to tell, that would be near impossible. there are other things besides flushing that can cause plants to look like that. flush for 3 weeks and i promise you'll be happy 
If the plant has been healthy up to the flush and the leaves look the way those leaves do, yes. The plant is outa food and starting to use it's reserves, the leaves. If they have been given nothin but water for the last couple of weeks you can bet they're flushed anyway. Enjoy! Take care... BC

Weening away the N until week 6 of flowering under amended soil compost conditions, and increasing P until week 6 should cause a "natural death" even without a flush sometimes... but I always use the 10-14 days of only clean water in the end just to be sure that the last stuff that went into the plant was mostly water and whatever danky juices it had stored up from before... to make a long story short, yea you should have at least seen the fade of green and start of yellowing/purpling/etc by the time you harvest, just my 2cts

it only happened to me 1 run when it wouldn't yellow. someone said that using liquid karma past week 5 can do that, who knows never happened since that one time. i flushed for like 4-5 weeks and the plants were just starting to lose their dark green color. i was driving myself mad!

I dont flush, its strain dependant on the yellowing, some strains do some dont in my case

iIs pretty normal for leaves to yellow some at the end. The real way to tell is to measure the TDS of the runoff water.

Yes. If you cut off nutes at the start of week 6 on 10 week strain, you are going to have some problems with your final product. A flush can easily be started too soon, especially on a new strain and then once the fan leaves die back, the bud leaves will start to leach and then you end up forced into an early harvest to prevent yellowing of the bud product.
Pour plain water through the pot.... catch some in a container. Test using your EC/tds/ppm meter. When it gets close to the same EC/tds/ppm that your water is before you put nutes in it.... all the nutes have been flushed out of the soil. At that point your plant will really be eating the stored up nutrients and you'll begin to see yellowing or the yellowing will speed up.

It's called Senescence. It's a hormonal thing, causing the plant to pull sugar reserves from the energy sink (leaves).
