Folks, it does NOT take mucho coinage to grow pot.
Nor does it take a big fancy set-up.
I have grown bag schwag in a closet using shop flouros and incandescent, and would be ashamed to show y'all my grows...but ya know, I have grown some amazing stuff in those ghetto grows.
I have also seen some amazing things come out of cardboard boxes.

I want to show y'all my latest box. It is as simple as can be. I originally built it for my dry box, and it works fantastic. But, I decided to get a little bit more out of it. So, lights...fans...action!
The Drybox

The box is 26" wide x 18" deep x 26" tall
For drying, I use my DIY carbon filter ($50), run through a 6" Suncourt ($27) and out the side. Four 3" holes covered by cut-to-fit furnace filter make the intakes.

The box is simple construction grade plywood screwed together, with two hinges and a lock hasp on the door. The interior was painted flat white with Walmart spray paint ($.98 per can takes 2-3 cans)
The doors are light proofed with auto grade weatherstrip from HomeDePot ($12)
I added a 150HPS ($20 vapor tight Econlight DIY of course) and a reflector hood that was made from a piece of Dow SUpertuffR insulation board. I can make about 8 of these reflectors from one $12 sheet of the stuff.

I have a 4" table fan from Walmart for airflow inside the box. ($12)

I probably have another $15 in cable and caulk for the seams.
I stained the outside of the box with some deck stain that I had left over.

This box sits atop my regular grow cab.

It may look a little hot, but they seem happy as clams.

I had two cuts that were being LSTed, one ThazexSK1 (left) and one very vigorous Mandala plant. Both are in a planter box.

Once the canopy has fully established, I will shave out the bottom trash.

As simple as I could get it.
Hopefully it will inspire a new grower.

Looks pretty sweet man...
The box I just built is pretty close to the same size.. I've been dragging my ass finishing it though, trying to get some seeds to sprout, still have to make a wall to split the box in half (or more like 1/3 and 2/3) so I can veg them in one section then flower them in another.

I like your carbon scrubber setup. Do you use one when you're growing in it?

Thanks for stopping in and taking an interest in the box, ZLock!

I don't have the scrubber hooked up to the box for the grow. The Suncourt inline fan is just blowing out the side for now. My regular cabs ducting is just next to the box, and when odor starts, I can simply vent into my cab and let it do the exhausting. The cab is filtered.
And although not as efficient, you could always hang a filter like mine on the outside of the box and vent into it. The power of an inline duct booster is just not the best for the air movement required for growing under HID. The filter I have works fine for just air drying nugs using the Suncourt. But growing will demand a larger fan if a scrubber is used. I just have the luxury of having this box sitting on a fully functional cab.

Hey, nuitari. Glad you stopped in. You will find lst to be your friend. Good luck!

organicmunk, Thanks for the compliment.
The only light is a 150HPS. Maybe you are looking at the aluminum channel that I used to hang the lamp fixture with? If that is what you are seeing, you can find that stuff at 80/20 inc.
I probably should have mentioned the aluminum channel I used. It is about $4 worth of bracket and I used a couple of pieces of bailin wire to hang the thing.

Mucho thanks, floppy.
If 1 hopeful grower takes the leap, because they read my thread and saw how easy it actually is, I feel completely satisfied.
And hopefully that new grower can inspire others so we can overgrow this mug!

Another noob helped!

Another noob helped!

Hey Hoosier, as they said earlier in reply to your post, many noobs do searches and find you on the www. I am one of those noobs! You have helped inspire me and I have used some of your ideas in my own designs. I made most of the items for my grow myself to cut costs, and have had a lot of fun learning about all of this. Thanks for posting the info on here, I copied your scrubber and have followed your last grow from a far... Anyway, just saying thanks again!

I can't believe I haven't seen this thread since you started it.

This is minimalist to the awesome. I love how you break down costs and show a macguyver way to do everything. For any newbie looking to get the most out of his money, something like this provides a ton of points. I'm looking at my first micro (mini/milli?) underway, and the nickel and dimes are almost as significant as my major components.

This post encourages me to get creative with it, and know that if I don't base everything on a precedent it can still work out OK. My projected cost is less of a limitation and more of a challenge.

Thank you, sir, for an excellent thread; I will watch closely :)

Also, do you have a DIY guide or parts list somewhere for your hood? I did search. I was looking to macguyver a hood also; was going to use an unclosed duct segment cut down and painted white (roofing paint) above my bake-a-round cooltube, but yours looks pretty well-tuned to the area. I'm interested in the material you used for that.

I can't believe I've simply never stumbled upon this thread!

hoosierdaddy - I've always found your threads extremely helpful and you explain everything in great detail. Thank you for that. You should tell us more about this box and how you control your growth!

I love your threads hoosierdaddy. You were an inspiration for us in our cab design and first grow. Sure, we're not nearly as DIY as you are, and we spent a lot of money (mostly for things that have a life far beyond this one project though), but our cab is definitely in the spirit of the hoosierman!

Nice job, hoosierdaddy! I have a friend just starting out that I want to show this to.
Could you go over how you made that reflector? I know you showed it before, but I can't find it, so just give me a link to your DIY reflector. Thanks!
