New guy with a few grow cabinet questions

Well you should leave you exhaust fan on 24/7 yes. That will allow fresh air to circulate all night long. As for light proofing weather stripping is what is generally used but I find that cabinets just don't shut the same after adding WS. I have my cabinet in a closet with the door shut and locked. There is no light in the closet so I do not worry about keeping the light out because there is no light LOL. For you try WS, or maybe a blanket to drane over the cabinet when the lights are off.

I will stick around to see if you have any more questions. Unfortunately this forum can be pretty dead at times, so help can be days out sometimes.

An idea I picked up from the "Mills Pride Club" thread is to use silicone caulking on the door jamb and to smear some petroleum jelly on the areas of the door that will touch where the caulk is. Close the door and let it dry completely for three or four days. Makes for a custom fit. But, be forewarned, it is messy if you have never done any caulking before. Just keep plenty of shop rags/paper towels handy. Hope this helps and good luck!

weather stripping wil fix that and you need a piece of wood or cardboard to overlap where the doors come together. it is a quick fix. hope it works out for you. any more questions?

at further glance it looks like that cord is making it worse. get out the drill and run the cord through the back of the cab.

You can use a board on the floor and the top going from side to side to attach the weather stripping to. Or you can get the really think foam (not neoprene) weather stripping. The foam can be found at 1/2" thickness and ran all the way around the doors where the light leaks.

anyone have suggestions for what CFL lights to use?

i will be using 6500k for veg and 2700k for flowering,
i have 6 sockets total, and the grow space it 2ft x 1ft

i was thinking (6) 27 watt cfl.
at 1850 lumens per bulb, that gives me 11,100 lumen for 2 sq ft, so 5,500 lumens per sq ft.
would this be enough for veg?

once it becomes flowering time i will probably step up to ~40w bulbs.

thanks in advance for your help,

Use the "Search Forum" feature. But, click on advanced search. Use the drop down button to chose "Search by Title." Type in "CFL." it should give you a wealth of choices and these guys know their "Bidness."

i have done ALOT of searching on here, but there seems to be alot of conflicting 'opinions'
the setup i mentioned was formulated by searching, i was more or less making sure what i planned will work for 2-3 plants :)

LOL...Now that's a fact, Jack!

However, I do offer my apologies for my post sounding so damn condescending, it was not meant as such. Sometimes, I forget, that a newcomer to the site is not necessarily a newcomer to growing. It sounds like you pretty much have your ducks in a row. Good Luck!

I was having similar issues than you with my cab. The solution was to actually just have my intakes passive and take the fans I had on them and created another exhaust with them. I think your better off utilizing all fans for exhaust and keeping the intake passive, but I have seen active intakes work as well.

hey kelly, if the caulking doesnt seal the light try some moulding on all the edges of the cab where the doos meet the cab sides that will give you a place to put the weather stripping and seal the cab for air flow. i've seen it on a post but can not find it now.
hope that helps good growing.
