Why no real Colombian IBLs around?

There are two "Colombian" strains I've smoked in my life that were fantastic and that was over 20 years ago. But I still remember them clearly, awesome, just awesome.

I've seen Greenhouse's video of them being in Africa searching for the Malawi Gold genetics, we hear breeders talking about having just been to country X picking up seeds, etc. Yet we have these mythical Colombian strains that many of us talk about and there would be a demand for but nobody offers them. Colombia is a relatively easy country to get to, although not very safe outside the main cities. I saw a recent photo thread of incredible looking Red Colombian. I know there are a few companies pretending to offer Colombian Gold but they are usually crosses of what they say was CG. I wonder why someone hasn't actually gone and found some of the real Gold, Black and red seeds and gone to work with them.

Its my understanding that Colombian IBLs can flower for 4 months or so making it impractical for most growers indoors or outside of a more equatorial zone. Thats the reason why most beans have been crossed out to cut down the flowering time but the originals still exist, found some excellent examples just searching in these forums.

Basically what I understand also. They're HUGE plants with a long flowering time and straight up outdoors gotta run them in a very supportive climate. Had a friend that used to run an NL#5 x Haze pheno, that was really like pure Haze, up in the Sierra's and had to put it in a greenhouse and needed supplemental lighting cause it finished early December and twice a day had to feed the woodstove...but in the end worth it.

There are still sativas in Colombia, but the original genetics have been diluted through years of crossing them with North American and Dutch genetics. I've also found these sativas to be very prone to hermaphroditic traits.

4 months flowering ha.. thats nothing Columbian black can flower/veg (12/12 or close flowering spectrum) for over a year before it even starts flowering... a product of an extremely stable environment. they are impractical for an indoor commercial grower but more than worth it for the personal stash... just make sure you have something to smoke during the wait.

Just for the info I'll post this site. I'm sure some of you have seen it, Cannabis Eye. Their strains look and sound fantastic but strangely nobody has done a review(red flag) and if you read the forum nobody seems to have figured out how to buy any of their seeds. And of course you would have to wonder if this "bank" has ended up with all these pure strains, including Colombian Gold and Black, why hasn't any other? So, here it is:

well not all of the columbian strains are the slow flowering monsters you guys speak of. In 1979 I grew some columbian bag seed in a outside plot in arizona . the results really amazed me , these grew to about 4 ft in a 4 month veg and flowered naturaly in around 70 to 80 days, real nice extreamly red hairs and good tric production. it was deffinatly great smoke. as I remember the buds the seed came from where the brownish gold with that distinct earthy taste.

I'm with you all on WOS C Gold. The only reason I didn't think of it as IBL is they call it 75%, 25% indica which leads me to believe it's crossed.
Description: Interesting crossback 25/75 indica/sativa landrace from colombia., giving as a result a mixture of pure lines come from santamarta zone.
They also describe it as psychedelic and electric with a 65-70 day flower time which is a little early. It sounds a little anxiety producing and I'm trying to avoid that. I could of course be wrong.

Someone chimed in to a thread a while back and offered the opinion WOS isn't sending out landraces. But if someone had different info on their stuff I would certainly be interested in hearing about it.

This is an update of the Columbia Moño Rojo started pages ago. Thx so much good Raco for giving me the chance to grow this beautiful line you kept. I love colombianas!... and I love the way she comes. Is a cute and delicate sativa, started to flower in late august and may be done in a few weeks already. Bit lanky still shows not much odor

best

I'm growing some Columbian F2s that are REAL DEAL from annaC, a very limited offering of theirs, I picked it up about a year ago, it is very nice indeed! Also, CH9 has some feminized Red Columbian Haze right now that I'm growing that might spark some of yours interest. Cheap too.

I hope I'm not out of line for posting F2s in an IBL thread.,if anyones offend I'll delete them.
I got a couple pics of some of AnnaCs Columbian f2s.
Not sure about what was used in making them. :chin:
There are 5 of them in the pic. There were put outdoors late in the season.
They are about 4 feet tall.
One out of the 5 one is alot further along than the rest.
I seem to be getting a spearmint type smell from that one.
Here they are.

If you want to be realistic about growing some Colombian, may I suggest Reeferman's Love Potion #2, which leans heavily toward the Santa Marta Colombian Gold side of the cross...

9-11 weeks. Sticky lemony fat buds in quantity. Good mold resistance...

Pure Colombian is rare and may take 20 weeks to flower like a pure Haze...

I don't have any problem with an f2 zombo as long as it's pure... I don't know much about breeding but would just expect more phenos and have to pick the "best".

I had looked at the thread on that Red Colombian although that one looks more purple but did the thread mention seeds ever coming available or was it just to make us drool?
