A Funky Good Time 2008

Hello ICmag I am Funkbomb. Welcome to the grow show I've got going this Fall/Winter. I don't grow in the summer because of the heat so this time of the year is always fun for me. I hope you can enjoy it too.

Specs:

Soil: 4:1 (double handfull = 1) Sta-Green Planting Mix and Perilite
Secret Jardin DR80
250 or 400w MH/HPS
4" Vortex
SS Supersun 1 reflector
Elf carbon filter
Botanicare nutrients and supplements
- PBP Grow & Bloom
- Cal Mag
- Liquid Karma
- Blast Off
- Sweet
Jamaican bat guano

The genes I'm playing with this run are:
- Northern Lights x White Rhino (From Nirvana, and self crossed)
- White Russian (Serious seeds F2)
- Fem F2 "Super" Ice* x Hashberry (Nirvana Ice, Mandala HB)

*This Ice phenotype is amazing. It's primarily sativa and kicks your brain out of your skull like a left high kick from Mirko Filopovic. It reeks of lemons when growing or being smoked and keeps you buzzing for hours. It came from an accidental feminization a few generations back. Long story short - Had a hermie female pollinate a true female by accident. Grew the seeds out and got all females.

My germination method is:

24 hrs in water
24 hrs in wet paper towel
Then 1/2 inch into soil
All broke ground within 48 hrs

Right now they are around Day 3 under the 250w MH.

How far do you have your lamp from your plants?

The light is further away from the plants than I'd like. I think its two feet or so from the plants. I don't have any long lengths of 4" ducting which is a bummer. I will probably put a rubbermaid underneath to get them closer.

Okay.

Well, how close would you like to have your light then? I'm working with a similar setup but am unsure as to how close the light should be.

I've heard of the hand test, where you put your hand at the canopy of the plants and if it's too hot for you, it's too hot for the plant. I'm wondering if you follow this rule of thumb or have developed some other system.

The back of the hand is a good test for heat. As long as you have good airflow between the light source and the plant tops you're safe.

I had two runts of NLxWR so they are gone. I've got 5 White Russians, 5 Ice x HB, and 3 NLx WR.

Plants are doing pretty well. Temps are higher than I'd like but thats the way she goes. Temps roam between 85-90 F. That may explain the slowish growth rate.

Looking good funkbomb, sounds like you got some good genetics and you know where your doin, so will you be using the 250 or 400 for flowering?

Depending on temps I'd like to flower with the 400. It may be the 250 so we'll see. Here they are around 1 week veg.

Plants are growing fast despite the higher temperatures. I'm thinking they will veg for a few more days then I'll switch the lights. Here they are around day 8-9 from seed.

Nice we are not too far apart.. In times I have some similar strains going is your Ice crossed with hog ?

Skatestreet - The Ice I'm growing is crossed with Hashberry. It's an awesome phenotype of Ice too. It's mostly sativa and smells like fresh cut lemons. It's also super potent.

Plants are around veg day 10-11 I'm not too sure where exactly. They are looking good and are going into flowering tonight.

I know exactly which Ice phenotype you're talking about and that crossed with anything should make for a great smoke.

I'm also interested in seeing how the White Russians fare. The last time I ran WR, the seeds stalled out on me. They were part of a friend's breeding experiment, so that might've had something to do with it.

I was gifted the White Russian F2's so I will keep the genes around through breeding. I would like to just take clones, but I am lacking in space to house them properly. Either way the genes are some of the the best from Serious Seeds so all is well. More pics tonight or tommorow...

Flower day 3

Not too much to say. Plants are stretching out and showing their phenotypes. I can't wait to see what I get in regards to the White Russian. Here is their order:

Row 1 (Furthest from camera) = White Russian
Row 2 (Left to Right) - 3x NLxWR, 1x White Russian
Row 3 - IcexHB
Row 4 - IcexHB

How tall were they when you flipped to 12/12?
How tall do you think they'll be when you wrap up?

I realize the second question might be a little goofy since they've haven't had a chance to really develop yet; I was just asking in regards to the short veg period you gave them. I assume you did this to keep them short...

The plants were about 6-7" tall when i flipped the lights. They got a good 11-12 days of full HPS light. They were developing fast and working on their third internode.

The main reason I put them into flowering now was beacause they will finish in 1.9 gallon containers. If I vegged them a month, they would be held back due to a lack of rootspace. I think now they will have plenty of space for roots and end up around 2.5-3.5 feet tall depending on phenotype.
