Well I think it won't hurt! It would simulate conditions a equatorial plant would experience growing inbetween two huge mountains, or in similar conditions blocking part of the sunlight.

Why don't you run an experiment and share results? :)

I used to do it all the time. I used it, or began using it as a way to speed up the on set of flowering for more equatorial sativa types. It also helps in the Summer when trying to find ways to reduce temps.

It won't hurt plants. It will cause flowers to show faster. The plants will mature faster. However there will of course be a small off set in the yield amount, which is less than 10%, closer to about 3-5. This is with Hps, and or Mh. I could see more of a yield effect if using weaker lighting like flouros. With many lower intensity lights you may need all the lumens you can squeeze in.

No effect on taste, or potency.

*Edit to add>

As far as people saying it's not smart. I suggest they ask Shantibaba why he does it. I'm sure he's smarter/more knowledgable than 99.5% of those telling you it's not a smart idea.

strain is Larry OG at day 53
given minor lst to give it some more tops along the side of the plant

It's been proven that you get lower potency when plants receive less than 12 hours of light. But these guys think it won't hurt, so go for it.

I wish I had the link on this computer but I specifically remember research showing that there was a difference in THC 5-15% depending on the daylight hours and it showed that 12/12 had higher potency and anything less than 10/14 had a sharper drop in potency if I wasn't so lazy I would search for th document but then I already know its true :)

wow bounty.. was that called for?

why not just state your opinion, or give some facts or links that support your position?

I think 11/13 would be enough to speed things up without pushing the envelope too far.

Is giving advice when you really have no idea what you're talking about called for? There is absolutely no reason to spread misinformation, it just makes it harder for people that are learning to learn.

If you want to base your grows on opinions go for it, I prefer basing my grows on facts. I don't feel like doing the work for other people right now, I guess that makes me a bad guy. I'm sure anyone can find it within a few minutes using the search.

And it was less than 12 hours of light, I edited my post.

That's what we were asking for not some bullshit coming out of your ass... btw no one gave advice everyone said try it... I wonder how accurate that is... I'm pretty sure digitalhappy runs a fast flowering cycle with 6 hours of light... What if we are trying to produce plants with more cannabichromene then THC? Sounds perfect for joint pain.

Don't be cheap.. electricity is cheap unless you have a commercial setup. Might aswell do it by the book and that's one less thing you have to worry about. My 2c

Ever heard of the saying, "Put up or shut up."?

It's a scientific study, and it's more than anybody else has contributed. I'd love to see something better.

The study looks perfectly valid.

there are also older studies that show going down to 10 hours may cause an increase in hermaphroditism.

but its clear 10 - 14 is not so good.

and thats because nobody uses it.

and one thing that makes sense to me.

If 10-14 produced stuff as good as 12 -12 most of us would be doing just that.

It's simple. Shorter day + longer night = shorter flowering time. It also = less yield since less light energy is available for growth. The question is, does the yield gained from speed offset that lost by reduced growing time? If it finishes in 75% of the time, but only has 75% of the yield, then that would be a wash. Tradition suggests 12/12 is the optimum, but I havn't seen any good experimental data to suggest this. So while I suspect 12/12 is optimal, it's cool when people are willing to experiment. Please share the results and keep us posted.

/would be useful to have a control @ 12/12 and another experimental group with 13 hrs of light. All the same clone, grown in the same conditions of course.

A study done with hemp of unknown strain in the early 70's is hardly any kind of fact...

Unfortuatly, so far, it's the best anyone has posted as far as hard data goes. And there are plenty of facts in the study, the question is how applicable to drug strains they are. Since we are dealing with the same fundemantal plant, I suspect many of the conclusions are valid. Until someone does other experimets with drug strains, I would think this data would be considered useful.

Oh, and when dealing with facts, it's better to anylize information that contradicts one's hypotheses than to attack it's source, just in case some of it may be valid. :chin:
