Looking for an indica to cross with an old school sativa

Hi there fellows, I have lots of seeds of a local sativa which produces some potent, tasty old school buds, quite consistent between generations (I wouldn't call it an IBL but the plants all grow very similar). Unfortunately it seems that it is losing vigor year after year, and it would break my heart to see this "strain" disappear from our island.

So I have two projects, the first one is to outcross the strain to a another nice sativa, which I have found thanks to a friend who gifted me years old seeds (still good germ rates) that were brought back from his travels, however he could not tell me where exactly the seeds came from. They produce plants that are somehow slow veggers but explode once in flower, they smell kinda sour/spicy/acid, and taste like some fruit you'd just define as "tropical", with some spice left on your tongue. After the cross, I plan to search for the best progeny and backcross them to their mom.

The second project I have is crossing that old school sativa with an indica. However I don't have much experience with indicas, and I would like to find one that is relatively pure, not necessarily an IBL, but something stable and worth crossing. And most importantly, available in seed form, ie something that I can order from the Bay/Boutique. I am not hoping for a uniform F1 hybrid out of this cross, some variety won't bother me but I believe using stable parents is a good thing, please correct me if I am wrong.

Some indicas that have caught my eye are:
-Sensi Star (Paradise)
-Black Domina (Sensi)
-Maple Leaf Indica (Sensi)
-Afghan (many diferent choices for this one, which one would you guys suggest?)

I am open to suggestions and criticism, thanks in advance for your help! :joint:

Thanks for the input guys!

From what I've read, Black Domina is a low/moderate yielder, unless you find a real good pheno, but they seem a bit expensive to me if you have to go through several packs to find a keeper.

I've seen many people claim Afghani and Northern Lights yield quite well, but it would seem that Sensi Star is a heavy yielder too? Paradise claims it has "a hint of sativa", maybe this is what pumps up the yields?

Another concern I have is the quality of the high/stone. Looks like Black Domina and Sensi Star are really strong, couchlock, but that's about it, mainly puts you to sleep... while I've read some reports on the MLI describing a more interesting smoking experience, plus it looks like a good yielder?

If anyone has anything to add regarding quality of the stone, please feel free to drop a comment. For now I think I'll be using MLI, but if someone wants to try and make me change my mind, I'm open to new ideas.
Cheers :joint:

Dont waste those sat buds on dutch bred male pollen. Get your hands on some landrace indicas and cross to that. You might want to try select open pollination for maintaining the sativa heirloom you have to, by growing from a large genepool if possible, select the best males, try to use at least 3 or 4 (imo) select males that stand out for whatever desirable traits i.e. aroma, floral structure, colour, resin production, etc. Toss the pollen onto all the females, harvest and keep each female individual when done. smoke through the fems and keep the seeds from the best ones. Should help the maintain the vigour by keeping a larger genetic pool within the line that way. As for the indicas to cross with your sat, I have found myself to be fond of the southern afghanis and lebanese.

Classyathome - thanks for the suggestion, however I'm afraid Big Bud has some skunk pedigree in it... not that I don't like skunks, but as TheHashAssassin suggested, I think it would be best to cross something that is not that generic. I'm with you on the high yielding point of view, however this sativa yields quite well already.

The HashAssassin - thanks for the advice on how to keep the line vigorous! I was mainly looking at the Maple Leaf Indica because it seemed to me that it was one of the less hybridized indicas available commercially. Unfortunately, as much as I would like to, I can't travel the world to get landrace indicas, as I'm lost on my tiny island in the ocean. :D That's why I'm trying to find something unadulterated (or the least possible) amongst what is available online. As far as I know, not many seedbanks/breeders offer pure landrace genetics, besides Mandala but they were mainly sativa hybrids, when they were still available.

Peace :joint:

Paradise Seeds' Durga Mata is supposed to be good for breeding purposes. I notice that Sensi's Hindu Kush also gets used in many breeding programs. I think I remember someone mentioning Federation's Romulan as an inbred pure Indica line in a similar thread some time ago.

To croos with a potent old school sativa, I will choose Sandstorm or Sugarloaf from Cbg, both potent indicas with a very distinctive genoopool, Chitral, Moroccan, etc.

All the Sensi indica grows I've seen from this years stock have been very sativa looking, lots of disappointed folk. Wouldn't go near them myself.

Thanks for the input guys, it appears that CannaBioGen and BlueHemp have some interesting varieties indeed. That pure Lebanese from BlueHemp sounds so tasty, and an early finisher too!

Peace
