What's new

flowering ferts for outdoor growing?

Hey all, never grown outside and I'm trying to get on top of the nutrient situation before flowering actually starts. In the past I've never had the cash to do much as far as nutrients go, I've always used a 15-30-20 (I think). I really want to get the most out of these plants and have the money to do it finally. Anything anyone would recommend? I was thinking about Tiger Bloom and/or Beastie Buds...I dunno, some people recommend the ferts like 0-50-30 some recommend a more balanced NPK. I've also heard good stuff about Dr. Big Bud? I've researched it alot but haven't come to anything conclusive, I know alot of it is personal preference, but any help is much appreciated THANKS

there are a ton of readily avalable chem bloom soluables....shit,,you can find some at walgreens...Take yer pick, there all the same...

No need to use the FF, or anything from the hydro store..

I would stop feeding 2-3 weeks before harvest. Its quite hard to flush salt base nutes out of the ground.....So just stop short.

thanks for some replies guys, yea Lou I actually looked through your outdoor thread last night. Great stuff by the way. 3 times a week? that seems like a shitload. I've only fed them in veg probably 2 times in the last 6 weeks or so. Actually using MG 24-8-16 at the moment for veg.

Thanks for the tip FastPine, stopped by your thread last night as well. Growing indoors I usually give them 10 days or so. One of them in my last grow ended up going a long time after I stopped and ended up not so great.

I use Seabird Guano (3-10-0) with Black Strap Molasses (1-0-5) and some liquid seaweed (0-0-1) in a tea with every (weekly) watering on the guerrilla patches. I also side-dress with SBG on a bi-weekly basis and then stop all feeding two weeks before harvest.

The examples given by the others above are highly efficient and foolproof. You'll save money and stay cleaner using Miracle Gro or Schultz's and their application is straightforward and unlikely to create growth problems.

If you like organics, though, what I have presented has never failed me. I do like to get dirty in the garden, though! More importantly, I never have more than 20 plants to take care of so I don't have to be as efficient or cost-effective as our more prolific friends upthread.

And for the record, I use a combination of chemical/organic in veg most of the time so my plants get supercharged going into flowering. So I'm not touting organics as the "ethical" approach. Just a preference.

Cool. I dunno I dont really have a big preference either way. I do use fish emulsion 5-1-1, good stuff but it smells terrible. I like molasses as well, have to go to the store soon. Sometimes I notice the leaves grow huge on first dosing of MG, powerful stuff

Yes, I have the same concern...I remember reading a few people talking about it on another forum and saying that they didn't really notice a difference when they combined.
Also, this year I'm aiming for "100% organic" ferts, pest control etc.

It is my understanding that chemical, salt-based nutes do inhibit the growth of the microherd but not because it poisons them per se. So theoretically, if you make sure to add plenty of organic material periodically, the microherd should be able to to thrive even as you reap the benefits of judicious application of chemical nutes. The molasses helps with the vitality of the soil microorganisms too. I believe soil only becomes barren after numerous years of using just chemical nutrients at high doses without providing organic material.

There's definitely a balance to be struck.

I wish I could go 100% organic, but unfortunately, from my perspective, cannabis is a poor candidate for it. Its nutritional demands are very high, perhaps the highest of any crop this farm boy is aware of, and they vary greatly from one stage to the next. High nitrogen during growth and veg stages and practically the opposite during flowering. One soil fits all is unrealistic in my view and because yield in cannabis is directly related to the amount of nutrients it has available during critical periods, I know of know alternative to chems.
During early growth, and early flowering, nute requirements/ yield with cannabis can be high.

Take Lou's advice and start dumping on the MG.

I have used Indonesian bat guano for two seasons already. The highest in phosphate and hardly any nitrogen, I forget Potash but try it. I get it on ebay in 10 lb boxes and use the stuff in a tea. Every 3rd day I would water with a tablespoon of guano in it. About every 15 to 20 days I would rinse the salt buildup by putting the plant wher it can drain real well and pour 2 or 3 gallons of water through the soil. There is no stink to it and it is like using flour. Good luck.

Lou,
I'm going through some of your threads now (I always loved that fuck duh cops thread).
So you say that Miracle Grow works well? My soil is very sandy. Do you think MG will work for me? I'm an indoor guy doing my first outdoor grow and I'm concerned that my girls are going to need some supplemental nutes soon.
Also, your signature says you like shrooms? Check out what I've got in my yard LOL.

Thanks Lou.

on my outdoor girls i aim to keep the soil healthy and free of salts as best as possible. i use mainly botanicare stuff outdoors, and budswell guano as my bloom. if i really have to though sometimes i use floranova. i have to hit my plants 2-3 times per week with nutrients to keep them green.

miracle grow works clearly but it isnt gunna give you the best headstash you can get

Advanced nutrients Heavy Harvest,, spring, summer, fall.. shit works,,no burn,, easy to apply,, will usually foliar feed with kelp and add big bud the last couple of weeks of flowering.. peace

AN nutes are overhyped garbage in my opinion. They got 100 parts you needa buy all which are expensive, take your time fine tuning and you dont get insanely better results.

in my honest opinion there are only a few reputable nutrient companies. some that come to mind are, botanicare, general hydro, earth juice, fox farm...

This is completely incorrect. First off you can add sufficient organic nutes to a plant to come close to peak performance. Not only can you get that but also your robbing the plant of vital microrganisms that the plant needs. By mimicing mother nature you are growing the exact way mother nature intended for the plant. I mean i personally would nather loose a little bit of weed growing organically or have to settle for some pumped up stuff that maybe yielded a little more but tasted like crap.

All my grows have been completely organic from the start and ive smoked alot of home grow buds and nothing compared to the high and taste or organically grow weed.

I use Dr. Hornbys Big Bloom and evaporated sugarcane and molasses in my outdoor buds. Just using something sugar based at the end produced bigger weighted buds. When a plant in bloom is photosynthesing to produce sugar for the buds, it helps to add some to the soil so the plant doesnt have to work so hard to create it. chem mayb the way to get bigger buds but any tru long time grower can tell the difference, and as long as your not in it for just the $$ organics is definatly the way to go!
