I agree, just because someone is president doesn't mean they can single-handedly change laws. He may be for it, and if the bill is passed to him, he may sign it. But as far as seeing some change soon...doubtful.

In today's news, Obama formally flip flopped by voting YEA on the FISA bill, granting immunity to telecoms for civil rights violations under Bush's direction, after stating he would filibuster the bill in previous press appearances. McCain chose not to vote on the bill.

Obama's vote in favor of cloture, in particular, cemented the complete betrayal of the commitment he made back in October when seeking the Democratic nomination. Back then, Obama's spokesman -- in response to demands for a clear statement of Obama's views on the spying controversy after he had previously given a vague and noncommittal statement -- issued this emphatic vow:

"To be clear: Barack will support a filibuster of any bill that includes retroactive immunity for telecommunications companies."

But the bill today does include retroactive immunity for telecommunications companies. Nonetheless, Obama voted for cloture on the bill -- the exact opposition of supporting a filibuster -- and then voted for the bill itself.

On topic: How can you believe anything this guy says about his MMJ stances when he'll flip on something as serious as this??

Obama basically has lost any small support I had by voting yes on that bill. I was no huge Obama supporter to begin with but a few key issues were important ones to me, one being this bill and the other was him stopping medicinal user/provider raids.

Not sure what I am going to do at this point, I for sure will not be voting for Mr. Warmonger McCain.

I understand and respect that you are a fan boy of Obama.. but regardless I'm not voting for any candidate who feels the need to spy on its own public in the name of fighting terrorism.

It's one of the same tired shticks they use to fight Marijuana "You smoke you are supporting terrorism!" I don't need more rights infringed upon in the name of protecting me. My privacy, and the privacy of my fellow citizens is more important then the possibility of hearing a terrorist talk to another terrorist.

I know that's a hard concept to understand, I mean because who would ever want to put their lives at risk for the notion of personal privacy? I would. I read a quote someone made that explains it better then I could "With a single act of violence a terrorist can kill thousands, By a single act of law a Tyrant can enslave millions"

This is the first step toward Tyranny. And Obama signed it smiling.

Yup. I was willing to tentatively support Obama because, while not a great candidate, he seemed at least semi-competent. Him voting yes on this bill makes me have no real confidence in him.

Even from the beginning, I've been saying the complete opposite about Obama. His recent 180 degrees flip flops on a number of things and outright lying makes doesn't do much to change my view on him.

"Your article proves that Obama is a lying, flip flopping hypocrite when it comes to statements that he's made about marijuana. Nothing that he says can be trusted. Obama changes his positions faster than a street hooker goes through condoms.

This episode reveals that as a candidate, Obama is more fond of bold rhetoric than bold policies.

Obama is not pro-marijuana in any way, shape or form. He's now against decriminalization, even though he was for it before.

When confronted on the issue by the Times, however, the senator defended his original ground. His campaign said he has "always" supported decriminalization. Obama is lying right here

Recently, he had told a New Hampshire newspaper, "I'm not in favor of decriminalization." This is what Obama really thinks."

Who me? I'm the one who has stated over and over again that marijuana means nothing in this election. I think that anybody who is voting for anybody based solely on their marijuana stance is somewhat naive, IMO. I hope McCain gets in too, because I'm a warmongerer, lol. Really, I am.

the man is too smart for that, if chooses hillary as his VP hes gonna need a food taster... LBJ had JFK killed... I wouldn't put it past hillary to do the same thing...

Your economy is in the shitter and you're not voting for him over a medicinal marijuana bill? Get your priorities straight... this is not the election to try to prove the validity of the marijuana movement....
