No, I'm not describing my state of consciousness. I'm talking about the movie that stars stand-up stoner comedian Doug Benson. It's based on the movie Super Size Me by Morgan Spurlock, in which Spurlock eats nothing but McDonalds for 30 days. Except in Super High Me Benson does it with marijuana. First he goes 30 days without smoking, then 30 days smoking constantly. The whole time he is undergoing various physical and psychological tests under a doctor's supervision. It's a mildly entertaining film, and Benson is funny at times. There's also lots of footage of various LA dispensaries and even a few DEA busts of those dispensaries. Scary stuff.

I was disappointed though that Benson didn't make more of the parallel with Spurlock's film. In the Spurlock film he is told by his doctor before the 30 days are up that he should stop eating only fast food as it is having some serious negative health consequences. By comparison, Benson's doctor found no significant differences between his 30 days with and without marijuana. I think he should have made a much bigger deal about that. A nice summary at the end comparing the health risks of legal fast food with the negligible effects of smoking lots of marijuana would have brought the point home. Instead the film just sort of ends.

Regardless, this is a film every stoner should see.

I saw it! It was definatley worth the time. There was atleast some quality there..in contrast to ''Totally baked!'' .. complete garbage..the trailer was much more promising IMHO..

still makes me feel good that people are atleast making an effort..

super high me seemed like a blight on marijuana, there were many inacurate facts, his jokes were bad, and i wonder if Doug Benson even smokes...

How can you question if he even smokes. He was High Times Stoner of the year. I'm pretty sure you've gotta smoke just a few joints to be named that.

I had mixed emotions about the movie. Any publicity is good publicity, so I'm glad Benson chose to shine some light on the situation. But he didn't do nearly enuff and the end of the movie was rather anticlimactic. He had enough ammunition to really blow up a bunch of the usual arguments for prohibition. And the fact that it was supposed to be funny hasn't escaped me, but he didn't do a good job with that, either. Guess it's a good start, but hopefully somebody will improve on what he did.

Damn I was hopen this would be cool, Ill probly see it anyway but from what yall sayin Ill probly think its lame. Someone cool should re-do this movie and actually show and compare how weed is more healthy for you than mcdonalds, and how instead of a war on drugs the feds should have a special-op counter fast food operations team.

I for one enjoyed the movie and tried to look at it like this -

The movie is humorous (which is Benson's MO in life, comedy) at times and it does show some aspects of the MMJ community but its not perfect. Just like ANY other documentary.

I personally think this could do some good - I hope that people will watch it because they want to see Benson being a comedian and walk away questioning what MMJ is all about. I mean isnt activism and awareness what most of after anyways? We cant JUST make the government aware (obviously that hasnt done a whole lot in the last 30 years) but also every day people you meet on the bus or at the library. To me that is where our fight is heading to next - Getting the mass of society knowledgeable on the true effects and outcomes of MMJ so they can in turn go to the federal government and demand MJ be re-classified.

So in that light - I think this movie isnt that bad, could be a starting point =)

"Grass" was my first documentary on the prohibition movement on MJ. Great movie! Opened my eyes to what was really going on in the legality of MJ

I know its been said on these boards before but if you want a REALLY good documentary (look on google video) then look for American Drug War: The Last White Hope

while i agree it could have been better, i thought it was well worth watching.

another film you should all see is "Grass" by Ron Mann and narrated by Woody Harrelson. That film should be aired at least 50 times a year on prime time so the American people can see the truth behind the war on pot.

Funny you should say that. There were a few times during the movie when I wondered if he really was inhaling. Sometimes it looked like he was just getting a mouthful of smoke and blowing it out, you know, like actors who don't smoke cigarettes (like John Travolta) pretend to smoke in their movies. But I thought it must have just been my imagination.

Ill chime in on this - I too noticed on a few occasions that he was doing this too. I just wrote it off to his smoking style but then I realized that he was eating a lot of edibles (granted he was traveling and I wouldnt travel with flowers) - anyway they can prove those were really medicinal edibles (besides the wrapper which i can make a few up if you would like, get my point?) that he was eating?

just a few thoughts I had. I still think its a good way to get people to consider the MMJ mission

I watched the movie last night, and I noticed this myself. Some times when he was smoking, it looked like he would get a mouthful of smoke and blow it out without inhaling. I don't know for sure if he inhaled or not, but during the 30 days he smoked, he sure did look baked as hell the entire time.
