micro grow stickies

I will agree with the sticky nom.! I realize I am crazy new here, but this is where I have been dropping every time I need an answer to whatever question I drum up while preparing. Great thread! NEEDS A STICKY

It is easy to see, this is an application more than a few could use to upgrade their lighting systems. It would require a reduction in scale and, I suppose, stealth would be the biggest logistical hurdle, but, certainly not outside the realm of possibility. PLUS, the one who first puts it together would be immortalized in the stickie section!

I agree that that 110w PL-L grow should be included.

I spend a lot of time looking at micro growing, small cabs, etc. It seems to me that while we do have powering pc fan threads, we don't have a proper sticky thread on the use of PC fans. Over the next few months I am going to be doing a lot of experiments with PC fans and using them with filters. This I intend to post here. You might call it an exhaustive guide to using PC fans in a grow.. Either way there will be some good stuff in there.

Sticky or not, i've never seen some of the things I know will improve pc fan results used in growing.. so should be further good info for micro growers.

From a UK perspective, it is almost impossible to get even half decent bud around here, there just isn't any really good stuff around in england. And that which is sold is being sold in (already a ripoff) but ever decreasing amounts. And polluted bud is becoming more and more of a problem. For someone who likes to smoke almost every day, this has been a problem for some time now. I do not have the space to do a full size grow, and the neighbours are too dodgy and nosey to do an outdoor grow.

I have already predicted a massive explosion of micro grows, am planning one myself (based on drbud's growspiration) and am encouraging all my friends to come here, read this forum, and get their own. CFL type, small grows are the way forward for everyone. Even lightweights :p hehe

nono. cfls are for people who dont want to grow alot of bud. a small hps eg 70 or 150w is the best way for micro growers as it gives a good yeild (~1g/w in scrog)

You could have a sticky entitled "The definitive guide to growing cannabis. This is all you need to know ever ever ever EVER"

And the noobs like me would still post.. lol :D

EDIT: smokeymacpot.. Have you read this forum at all? :asskick: :muahaha:

i think he could be reffering to drbud whose easily geting a gpw with cfls

so can this be a sticky yet or what? ive gotten lazy updating my original post...

Yeah, i was referring to DRbud's method, and others. I like this grow method so much i scrapped my initial drobe build halfway through (luckily i didn't buy the 150w HPS and 70w MH bulbs i'd planned) and changed to a very drbud style design.

It's easier for me to stealth, lets put it that way. I'm a fairly heavy smoker so a PC grow would not yield enough for me. I need a larger space. But i don't have a lot of space available and even less that is stealthy. the CFL SOG method is PERFECT for my needs. When this grow is going, you could be sat next to it and never know it was there, And i mean sat inches from it.

If i find myself needing the kind of light HPS's provide, I'll get a 150w on a digi ballast and be done with it. CFL are a lot cheaper though, for a 1st experiment test grow they're perfect and i'm sure that even if they don't yield good, they'll yield me enough to save me the cash to set up the aformentioned digital HID. Screw magnetic ballasts. I'm broke at the moment, can just about afford to do a cheap cfl grow in soil - Hopefully that will yield enough so that i can stop buying dealerweed, which will save SO MUCH cash (dealer weed costs me most of my spending money after rent etc), then improve my farm and maximise everything and then i shall be :joint: :jump:

small hps is still micro??

:off2: This brings up an interesting point to me. If this has already been addressed, I offer my apologies before hand (and please point me to the appropriate link), but, just what constitutes a "Micro" grow? At what range of area makes it either a Micro-grow or an NGB style cab or even a Mills Pride type cab? Then there is microRU and his Nano Class speaker-grow (and yes, with a 70w HPS no less; I was freakin' amazed!). I suppose what I am getting at is, if there were a consensus on just exactly what a Micro-grow IS, a sticky (when one comes about) tailored to small grows, would be so much easier to put together. :2cents:

IMHO, it would be absurd, but if you can fit a 400w hps into a 2 square foot box, it would be a micro grow for sure.

Extrapolating 70w's for about 1/6 of a square foot, that would come out to about 100w/sqft (+,-). Certainly not outside the realm of possibility. To be sure, it would severely test one's design skills, but doable. So I guess it would mostly come down to the area of the grow itself. A two sqft area at 75w/sqft for a max of 150w's of bulb. Hmm...then that would mean anything more than, say, 2 sqft and 150-175w's would be an "NGB" cab grow and anything less than, say, one sqft and 35-50w's would be a "Nano" grow?

I mean that we care about the AREA of the grow, and not everything else.

micro |ˈmīkrō|
adjective [ attrib. ]
extremely small

I think that lighting, number of plants, yield, and everything else should not be a sort of 'measurement' to establish exactly if a grow is still micro or not.

I don't live in an "english speaking" country, so I apologize for my bad way to explain things! :)
Hope everything sounds clear enough! yo!
