I read on another forum and someoen said it was sweet pink grapefruit x big skunk #1...

Anyone know what big skunk #1 is; perhaps big bud x skunk #1?

I've been doing some more searching on the strain. It seems as if it is really potent and yields well, but it takes a long time to mature.. going 12 weeks, even thought the breeder pack says less.

Seems great but i'm willing to bet i can find a quicker pheno of some super silver haze or something.

SSH is a great strain as well.

Here is what I was told SSH, the grower had no reason to lie about the strain either, as he also had a legit bubblegum and skunk/kush cross.

And it here is SSSDH x Humboldt Berry

It's federation's seed version of Spice of Life's(breeder Steve) sweet skunk; which itself is reputed to be the BC grapefruit clone by a nl/haze. The "sweet skunk" is actually a specific clone that Steve ran in 1994, and is still floating around the BC area.

Legends seeds has s1's of the original clone; direct from Steve.

Correct nothing to do with skunk #1.

The story goes that sweet skunk is a sativa selection from a cross of sweet pink grapefruit pollinated by a sensi skunk. This was an accidental pollination though and Breeder Steve wasn't sure who the daddy really was. Steve was also growing NL5/haze along with the skunk and grapefruit leaving some (Chimera) to conclude that the NL5/haze not the skunk is the real daddy. After growing ISS myself I would agree with that, too much sativa to be a sensi skunk/grapefruit cross.

I grew mine outside and they didn't finish so I can't really judge it but, even immature the buds were very sweet smelling and tasting and the high was fairly long lasting. The plants were also huge and vigorous.

The 2 tall plants in that picture are ISS sometime in August in 15 gallon grobags.

The bud was covered in pistils, the people that go nuts for "red hairs" loved this haha.

GROW CANADA - SWEET SKUNK by Chimera

Very few bags of pot stand out in the sea of commercially produced cannabis grown in western Canada. Sweet Skunk, a beloved smoke among well-connected connoisseurs, is an exception. The buds have long foxtails of stacked calyxes. Once the smoke crosses the lips and the effect sets in, the lucky toker realizes just how special this strain really is. However, since it isn’t a huge yielder under most conditions and requires 10 to 14 weeks of flowering to fully mature, few growers are willing to fill their gardens with it, making it something of a specialty item up here in the North.

Sweet Skunk was originally introduced by Spice of Life Seeds in 1994. The heritage was listed as Sensi Seed’s Big Skunk x Sweet Pink Grapefruit (a.k.a. Grapefruit) at the time, but Breeder Steve later speculated that the father was likely a NL x Haze male rather than a Big Skunk. This makes sense; the Southeast Asian “Hazey” bud structure is hard to ignore. Apparently, Steve had obtained two trays of clones for a grow, one labeled “Big Skunk” and the other “NL x Haze.” Upon planting and flowering the clones, one of the trays turned out to have a male that pollinated the crop, producing the seeds sold as Sweet Skunk. (Sometimes unplanned hybridization can yield outstanding individuals.) F1 seeds were planted, and an extreme sativa-leaning selection (SS #10) was chosen out of a roomful of indica-dominant girls. This clone is now known in BC as the original Sweet Skunk clone.

This special cutting was shared with friends and planted in gardens near and far. Breeder Steve hasn’t released a pure Sweet Skunk line, nor was the original ever rereleased. Other seed companies, however, have used this clone and siblings selected from the same F1 population to produce their own versions of this variety to fill the market void (e.g., Island Sweet Skunk). DJ Short and Spice of Life have recently released Sweet Blue, a Joint Project hybrid of the special Sweet Skunk and DJ’s Blueberry. The result was a more manageable, faster-flowering plant that possesses most of the flavors and scents of Sweet Skunk yet boasts larger yields and some of the color of Blueberry.

Hi bro,

Most people growing it talk about the high, I'm surprised caused I find it pretty couchlock, hard stuff which last so long, can't do anything much afterwards.

Taste is really good, like and old skunk with haze in it, not my cup of tea regarding what I can do after smoking it :bashhead:

Apart from that, it grows pretty fast, vigourous cut for sure!

perhaps you should chop her earlier (10 weeks instead of 12 weeks) for a more clear high .... depending on your own body perception ;-)

for sure , it's strong stuff :D

i look much forward to flower the sweet skunk cut flying. looks very nice. sharing is caring.

word is that federation lost some of the genetics they originally used for iss...if you want the real thing find either jordan of the islands ,or next generation seed co version.

TREE KING

summitoker, have you heard that federation lost some of the genetics for mikado by any chance? just curious? some people were saying that the mikado was different in 2000.

its pink grapefruit/ big skunk#1 is the genetics. but iv'e heard so many different versions of I.S.S. i reckon its the breeders trying to pull the wool over everyones eyes. any way true I.S.S. is a great high if grown right. heres a pic of the seed pack from NGSC. :headbange

The ISS lineage is as follow's;
it was a 95 sensi seeds Big Skunk Male crossed to the Sweet Pink Grapefruit
the strain was called Sweet Skunk by Breeder Steve of Spice of Life
I have also heard the Big Skunk is the same as Soma's Big Korean Skunk used in his crosses
What happen was the folks at Federation got the Sweet Skunk cut and called it Island Sweet Skunk then the peeps at Fed split up and then Next Generation started up and they had the same cut of the sweet skunk.. which they call ISS also
So both are from the same cut..
peace

I'm currently in week 2 with iss (and da purps) and they have stretched a crazy amount, my buddy grew it like 5x and they were always like 5 feet tall even when flowered at 1 foot. The high is incredibly psychadelic but it takes a long time to bud up. I personally love it, ill take pics if anyone wants to see the early stages when they stretch.
