Student Friendly Anotation Software?

Hey, i'm sure there's a ton other students here(hopefully all college and further, ie, over 18), so i'm appealing to you, my fellow student smokers.

I have severe ADD and poor handwriting skills. i also have no idea how to amend things that professors gloss over and then rehash after discussing twenty other topics(i've noticed cokehead professors usually talk in circles like this). This combination leads me to get frustrated in class.

To remedy this, I think i'm going to start taking my laptop to school and i was wondering what software you guys use to take notes. Like, obviously, any word processor can do, but i know there are programs that allow you to make graphs and other graphics on the fly, and also others(for tablet pcs) that allow you to have a text document act as an paper text so you can write on it and stuff.

Anyone tips that lead to a successful discovery get a free term paper :-D

just kidding, i don't wanna get anyone's hopes up,hehe.

Nah man, Im old school.... Just good ol pen and paper. if I get lost I just ask the smart girls if I can check out they notes, they always let me.

Yeah, they always let me too, but i hate feeling like i'm mooching off them. specially cause i end up having to cram, and never having all the info. i'm pretty active in classes, i like participating, so i think it's kinda dumb that i am such a poor "student".

My gf has a tablet but never uses it for that, I can't imagine I would either. What could be more versatile than paper and pencil? Might not be the most organized, but if you take notes fast you can put them together into your computer later, which would help you learn the stuff as well.

This handy piece of software takes notes and pictures of graphs so you dont have to. It also lets you sleep in class so you can look at your notes later.

Bounty, i CAN:T take notes fast... the tablet part would be for annotations on assigned reading materials(like, underlining and stuff. i'm trying to avoid paper as much as possible, it's cluttery and prone to being lost).

and verite, i think you're probably joking, but in the off chance you are serious because you think i take amphitheater courses, nope, i'm in small classrooms. the BIGGEST(and that's just one class) is maybe... 60 people. Still easy to get noticed sleeping(trust me i have)

If handwriting is out of the question then I'd suggest getting a decent quality recorder, so that you can go over what they said a few times to make sure you got everything straight, and take notes at your own pace.

get a digital voice recorder and read notes into it while the lectures on. say "table 1" or "page 3" etc. while you're marking up the graphs etc. if you can get microsoft word and the voice recognition software, train it properly (if your good with this kind of stuff it helps, otherwise maybe a friend), you may be able to run the voice output straight into the document, then just edit it up. thats the deluxe model LOL otherwise you just play back the recorder and type or maybe software so you can upload the .wav or whatever and a nice interface. manual transcription actually gives you a chance to review the material at leisure, rather than rushin to input it in class. shit maybe you can get a new toy, cell phone with voice recorder (with lots of room and easy use) :rasta:

i imagine youll get stuff on paper in class rather than electronic, so a laptop wouldnt help in marking that up; but if its in electronic format then yes, a laptop or tablet might help, but i cant see that unless they make you buy a laptop with e.g. ms word. if they do then a tablet with a way to put "post-its" on the doc where you could freehand write content would be ultra-deluxe. somebody somewhere could probably get *that* even to work on voice recognition.

dont know what the tablet would do sounds like cash for flash; faster to talk than type let alone write, get the technique down so you dont drive your classmates nuts :cuss:

well, actually, if i got the tablet, it'd have been a gigabyte mini notebook. so.... very cheap :p.

however, the problem with the recorder idea is that most professors will not allow you to do that. my university is headed by political appointees and party lines play a big role in promotions and even the type of professor a person is(we're not talking dem/rep here). I've heard of professors taking recorders and erasing shit.

meh, that's what i get for going to a university where the threat of political and criminal profiling by the FBI is a standing joke.

anyways, i'll just use a normal(cheap) laptop with a hand held mouse to make quick graphics and leave it at that. maybe part of my method is my madness?
