The only thing annoying about these posts are the same few dopes that follow him around. That's the problem here not the poster, those people need to get a life. Their postings are tantamount to spam since it's the same garbage they leave every time they post on his threads they need to read the rules themselves. The bad rep - you deserved & a blank comment is as good as any. If you're not sharp enough to know why you received K- his comment won't help you. Now try some positive postings boys & mind your own business.

This from the same asshole who follows us around complaining how we follow the douchebag buzz around....makes you head spin......grassalot is a well known troll. You see where his priorities are, defending a douchebag rather than standing up for the truth. Must be a republican....

Same story here with the rep, smokey.

Inflorence, the problem is he takes theory he learned here and chemistry class and tries to represent himself as an expert ie. "PRO GROW TIPS", when the fact is he has zero practical experience needed to sort out the good from the bad. He doesn't grow. There are many examples of poor/irrelevent advice and if you don't see it you haven't looked hard enough. There is info that is fatal out there. Especially the numerous suggestions of more ferts/watering to plants that are obviously suffering from overwater/poor drainage. This will kill them. This isn't even up for debate as Dutchgrown is in full agreement and already put the blackvelvet handle into coventry, so, in her words (paraphrased) "No one else gets burned by this wrong information."

Yes, a grower like you can see bad info and choose to disagree. Explain to me how a noob, who comes here for help, can tell the info is bad and just ignore it? They can't, and they get burned.

No one said they knew everything so please don't try to make it sound like that. That is a red herring through and through. My advice is solid and respected. If I don't know, I don't say. If I'm not sure, I state that.

petey my cowardly friend, senior member lmao nice example you're setting. I did post the truth many times & set you straight just as often. You don't mean squat to me yet you've attached yourself to my left nut. Give it a rub would you I feel an itch.

whats funny to me is how all ya'll chime in to kick the donkey while he/she is down. One after the other....like little.... Does it make ya'll feel good to re-establish something that has already been established?

Frank said homeboy is full of shit. good looking out and point taken.

Either take the advice or not. Personally, i wouldn't listen to all of it.

Now go pick on someone else that is not as smart as you.

I should have just quit reading this, but somehow, stupidity is addictive! (if not contagious)

Are you fucking nuts? Interesting definition of coward you must have.

One link motherfucker, one link.....show me.

You couldn't set a two year old straight.

If I mean so little to you why do you keep trolling me? Here you are univited, unprovoked, but I am the one who is not setting an example? Projection, much? Did the fucking thread title say, "Assalot, please come give me your 2 fucking cents?"

You sure got some special love for your own genitals. So mature. Why bring your nuts into this now? For backup?

So many people contribute to ruin an attempt at a good post, yet so few discuss the subject of the thread, pro tips for noobs. Can we stay on track or do we all seem to have add? In all honesty its not even bad information for a person that doesn't know anything about growing. Now what have you all become. Idiots. Most of you can't even establish valid points as to why the original poster may have implied something untrue. The best attempt someone made was going 1 step further in depth, and correcting the wording of 'how he should of said it' which imo was well put to begin with. Now I'm going to run down through the list and say true or false, plain and simple.

1. Slow release ferts don't work too good indoors. These are better left outdoors. Don't buy a soil mix that states "lasts 3 months" or something like that.

TRUE Slow release ferts take away the growers control, any real gardener would prefer fertilizing him/herself.

2. Ph is important. Best to adjust the ph of your fert water after adding everything. Ph 5.8 is good for soilless growers. Most of you are...like soil mixes containing peatmoss, bark, perlite, vermiculite.

To test soil mix ph, water till the pot is dripping. Wait 1 hour. Pour just a little bit of distlled water (Has to be distilled!!!) till the pot drips. Catch this on a plate. Test ph. If you don't have a meter to test ph, look for cheap test strips with a range like 4 to 7.

TRUE I'll mix up some real acidic soil, and feed purely acidic nutes, lets see how ph doesnt matter, just because you may know your mixes/nutes doesnt mean ph doesnt matter, it just means you're within ideal range.

3. Dolomite lime is your best friend. Add 2 teaspoons per gallon of mix if already not added. Avoid pelletized but get powdered/pulverized. This gives you calcium and magnesium.

Bonus tip: Add 3/4 teaspoon pulverized/powdered gypsum per gallon of mix to get valuable sulfur.

TRUE Marijuana plants (what we specifically grow) love calcium and magnesium, and at the same rate dolomite lime buffers your soil to keep the ph in range, which is very important, you will not have success with a wack ph.

4. Avoid fertilizer with urea or ammonia. Choose ferts high in nitrate nitrogen.

TRUE urea/ammonia are slow release, nitrate is more readily available. urea/ammonia will tend to build up in your soil.

5. More light indoors is better. Add more for better results.

TRUE Not exactly pro-tip material, but true. May also be vague, but true nonetheless.

6. Your soil mix must be light and fluffy. Buy promix, fafard, majestic, sunshine soilless mixes. If stuck with a sloppy poor draining soil mix, add perlite.

TRUE Dense soils have poor drainage and roots have trouble growing through it.

7. Keep temps 75-85f. High temps make plants stretch. Low temps lead to poor germination and slow growth.

TRUE you don't want your plants up in the 90's, of course if your utilizing co2 its a different story, but what noob jumps into growing with co2, and if so, you've probably done enough research that you'd be prepared.

8. Use the search feature at icmag.

TRUE

9. Tell no one about your grow. Ever!

TRUE

10. Plants grow better on the dry side. Use the lift method to see how wet the containers are. Lift when fully wet. Keep lifting daily and you can feel the water loss. Eventually you can lift and know ...they need water.

TRUE

I'll be the first to admit that this edition of 'pro-tips for noobs' is very short, but I see no bad information. Why are all these expert, grand master gardeners stepping into a thread named 'pro tips for noobs' anyways. If anything extend the information, don't dead-end it.

As I will.

1. Germinating seeds can take 7-14 or more days. Be patient, theres many methods that can be found on this forum to receive good germination results.

2 Create an ideal atmosphere/environment for your plants for ideal growth, research/preparation is key.

3 Cloning also takes 7-14 days, and can require a bit of your attention for the first couple, depending on your methods, which can be researched here using the above tip #8, the search function.

4 Vegging plants takes even longer, and depending on your goals, strain, lighting, and techniques, it can take up to 60 days (growing trees) to veg a plant to its desired height. Keep in mind the plant will likely double, or triple its size when making the transition to flower. Sometimes the best way to learn is from experience, this is one of those areas. Vegging a strong healthy plant is key to growing great marijuana. Use Nitrogen based nutes but dont skimp out on any other macro/micro nutrients.

5 Flowering is usually the longest wait of them all, but its all worth it in the end. The plant will be its thirstiest at this point of its life since its doing the most photosynthesizing. Use phosphorus based nutrients.

6. Theres a lot of methods to growing, don't stick with just one, try out different methods and see what works best for you, even then, keep your mind open to new ideas.

7. Have fun

The merits, if any, don't matter here. The guy who began the thread is a jerk and has misled countless people on here at one time or another...as Pete rightly pointed out.

The title of the thread is a great subject for legitimate discussion by people who actually grow and know something about growing. New growers could benefit from such a thread. However...This ain't it.

Pete

Not to worry about ASSalot...he's just another guy with a lil teeny weeny that has to compensate somehow, somewhere......just happened to be here this time. :rasta:

I find a big difference between chunky perlite and regular perlite. It's a lot more expensive, but I've had much better results.

The worst perlite to mix in is the mishandled crushed powdery stuff.

And, wet it a bit and let it sit for a while before pouring it out because the dust is very bad for your lungs.

------------------

a drop of 'no damp' and a drop of h202 per liter does wonders in preventing damping off and pathogens germinating - from seed to baby

I used higher temps once in one tray (90 degrees f) and lower temps in another (69 degrees f) for germing seeds and the higher temp ones germinated lightening fast - then many died from disease, the lower temps were way slower to pop but baerely any were lost to disease.

edit- 'no damp' is not sold in the US but can be ordered from canada and is worth every penny - just don't over-do it

Potassium nitrate, for example, is KNO3 -a potassium atom + a nitrogen and 3 oxygens

but ammonium nitrate = NH4 NO3

so ammonia is just NH3 (or NH4 ammonium), not in everything.

This thread needs to be closed and tossed in the bin.

I couldn't agree more. As I said, it's a good topic, but the thread owner is a longtime troll....assuming it is who some of us think he is.

i dont know about binnin it jeez if someone else has a top ten id love to hear it! it is a great topic and there are guys who have opinions, but keep an open mind come on back with a list, even a short one! cmon make a silk purse out of a sows ear.

it could be a good place to do it because it would encourage people to learn more about all the things and to be selective in their choices.
