How has yalls experience been with crossing elites to make seeds?
do you find quality traits to be more recessive or dominate, or is it about even?

yet if you read his post his question is justified. great mother plants do not aways show their traits in their offspring.

Why don't you ask Rez. Other than the SD IBL, all he does is cross elites. He doesn't grow out land races.

Maybe you could help me understand what YOU consider "elite"? maybe a list of some strains you had in mind to cross?

"Do they (elites) make good hybrids?"

Some do,some don't.
It's ALL about recombinant selection.

Some take great P1 Stock and fuck it up by not knowing what recombines best.

The answer?

Absolute Art In Selection.

Cheers!

'Elite'- Powerful clone-only breed, i.e. Grandaddy Purple, Strawberry cough, Purple Kush, OG Kush, GodBud, Headband, Sour d, Purple Urkel, ect. ya catch my drift?

REZ: Good lookin man, by recombinant selection you mean mixing the best with the best over and over for the traits your lookin for right? Thats what I was thinkin..... Breed a bunch out, keep the best, breed um again, keep the best, breed um back to the mother, keep the best, ect. By best I mean ones that most resemble the traits your trying to stabalyze....

the problem with elite genetics is that elite is a very subjective term. There is no official list of elite clones or even a standardized criteria for predicating something as elite. It may help you to get an answer if you ask something like "is extreme potency generally a recessive or dominate trait." even the answer to this question will be subjective and not hold true all the time but may at least give you a general consensus to the nature of a certain traits recessiveness or dominance.

See number six & seven for clarity.

ELITE
e·lite /ɪˈlit, eɪˈlit/ [i-leet, ey-leet]
–noun
1. (often used with a plural verb) the choice or best of anything considered collectively, as of a group or class of persons.
2. (used with a plural verb) persons of the highest class: Only the elite were there.
3. a group of persons exercising the major share of authority or influence within a larger group: the power elite of a major political party.
4. a type, approximately 10-point in printing-type size, widely used in typewriters and having 12 characters to the inch. Compare pica1.
–adjective
5. representing the most choice or select; best: an elite group of authors.
6. When you walk into a room with ten marijuana growers that have each been growing ten years, and what you smoke with them, they will never forget.
7. Marijuana that the greater percentage of growers & smokers would envy anyone for having.

Also, é·lite.

IMHO they can work out pretty well :joint:
bubba kush X god bud

bubba kush X bubblegum

sour bubba

one should breed with good stock...elite's are usually considered good stock, hence elite...

nice try but still subjective. there are no quantifiable traits that you can say all elite strains hold. ask different people and you get different answers. if you want an answer to your question thats not just nonsense or somebodies opinion you've got to define more precisely what you are talking about and im afraid that really can't be done when talking about elite strains of cannabis. I don't mean to harp but i just want you to get the an answer that will help you and the community not just more opinion on what people like to smoke. this is all the more important when considering something as involved as breeding.

WRONG.
Simple Criteria for Smokers are: cannabinoid profile-based: taste, high plateau,psycho-reactivity,longevity of high, etc. etc.
For Growers: flower period, yield, smell, plant profile, clonability,et al.
What I stated is Absolutely 100% Correct.

Hell,you know better?
Redefine it,improved.

You can't.

hiya REZ!!
i think i'm starting to warm up to your brashness :joint:...it's kinda of funny after a while...just would hate to see someone take your word as the gospel, seen...

GetMo, I asked for a list of "elite" genetics you were specifically interested in because, for obvious reasons, they all cross differently, especially when we are talking about 7 different kinds of OG Kush(es) and who knows how many different Males being used for the initial outcross....which leads me to my point...
In my experience, the males are the "KEY" to a good outcross, depending on what your initial goals are. Personally, I have no experience with CS or STS, so most of the hybrids/poly-hybrids I've done always involve a male.

I also think if one was to search the forums and gather information on "elites" that have been crossed, they could find common expressions of traits being passed on....For example, Bubba Kush seems to always pass on certain traits, Deep Chunk as well...(Not that I am claiming either to be "elite")

You can cross 2 elites one time and you might get lucky and get a good plant from it. Or the cross could produce a combination of mixed terpenes that smells like baby vomit or a goat with the scours. A closet hack pollen chucker might make that one cross and think he is golden. A real breeder will make that cross 50 times and look for traits, and make other crosses and backcrosses to select for certain traits. It is NOT so easy a caveman can do it!
