If you want people to be warned try using " FBI searching laptop files at the border " for the title instead of some random bullshit that people have to open before they know what it is because the poster thinks this is the information to save everyones grow/life.

The guy's grammar isn't the best, he's probably a dumb teenager. Still, he tried to be helpful but made the mistake of labeling the thread in a way that was kind of misleading because of the emergency nature in which it was presented.
If you are mad at a moderator for not doing his/her job, then so be it, because I see some stupid ass threads floating around that never get closed or edited. Being a dick doesn't help, you can school the kid in a more decent way. Teach him that labeling threads like this is misleading at least and then teach him how to delete it or edit the title, no need to be "complete assholes"...

i really have to disagree, since something like this would appeal to any and every american , and yes it warrants an emergency heads up. imean there are many reasons why one woudl have some pics on a laptop or other media,aince we all lead different lives. i personally had no idea that this could be done and considering that my wife recently bought a laptop and likes to crunch OUR PERSONAL FINANCIAL NUMBERS ON IT, then yeah, its important to not jsut the grower but to us all. i want to know what this sadistic government is doing to my rights at every turn possible. my ife is non of thier business plain and simple. ever since this last documentary about how teh riggin of the voting ballots took place, i want to know everything these bastards do, just as they do me and yes YOU TOO.

and this is the US government so tattoos and piercings are clear danger signs to these morons. i have yet to NOT be stopped and searched at the airport, since i adorn both tats and piercings,and i know thats the reason cause ever since it started i have been watching and its just one of the things they are looking for.

FRIENDinDEED, I disagree that this thread warrants a 'life or death' style thread title to bait people into clicking on it. Maybe I didn't want to read something completely obvious anyway? (which I didn't).

It's a moot point anyway, because as I said earlier, I've always been careful about carrying sensitive data across a border unencrypted, and if I did need to, then I would use a strong form of encryption, or even email it to myself via Hushmail - then it's in encrypted cyberspace, and no need for any concern.

Only a dumbass would carry freedom-threatening data over an international border in an unencrypted format, and so the point of this thread is just pointing out the obvious anyway

Regarding 'someguy's' comments about carrying random encrypted data in an attempt to bait them to decrypt it, that's a stupid idea too, as it just forces your people (i.e. regular American citizens) to pay more taxes - yeah, great idea guys, as if you didn't pay enough tax to the gov't already?


NB. Why didn't the original poster just use his sub-title for the thread title:

"computers and cell phones info.,can be search at borders"

well, with the correct grammar of course: 'searched'


That would have been such a more suitable thread title, and would have avoided all this.

Jack, the link you posted is by legend DJ Short in his own Vendor forum.

Yes, he's encouraging people to click on the thread with a vague thread title, but the difference is that it's his own forum, and people only go in that Vendor forum to learn more about the breeder and their plants.

I don't have a problem with that.

What I do have a problem with is people posting stupid and unnecessary titles in open public forums, deliberately baiting others into clicking on their thread, only for them to find that it was a complete waste of time in doing so, or at least not at all required.

If I went to DJ Short's forum and wanted to learn more, I'd click on all the links, but I don't have time or inclination to do that in the Security forum.

I hope, therefore, you can see it's like comparing apples and pears.

PGP has been hashed out in court a few years ago.The feds couldn't break it,and the owner had the password memorized.He was eventually forced to reveal the password by court order.He would have rotted in jail for contempt of court anyway,so he revealed it,they found child porn and he is sitting there rotting today.

No,we don't have the right to privacy anymore,if indeed we ever did.Montel Williams,the talk show host,stated on national tv that he spent 12 years working for intelligence,monitoring our telephone calls long before "terrorism" was a threat in this country.He said this whole thing about them having to have a warrent is a joke anyway,as they were doing it for years.And now that the telephone companies can't be sued for allowing the government warrentless access to our internet and phone records we are all wearing bullseyes.
