LightTrap

Hey, with the death of that other site we shall not mention, i realized just how much knowledge was lost.

I remember seeing designs for light traps, simple things with a basic principle. I know everyone likes to use those elbows, but i dont want to do that i wanna make one out of cardboard or plywood or something. I know theres a simple principle behind a light trap but i cant remember how it was. but it was something like an N shape inside a box. light goes in one and and since lights cant readily travel around corners the light wuold be prevented from escaping by the walls inside the box and their arrangement.

if anyone could help me out on the principle behind light trapping i would be most appreciative.

HVAC metal and aluminum tape and the "soap and water clean up" amateur grade Rustolium flat black is the way to go. Just paint it black as you build it. I have an air filter in mine. Pics of construction somewhere...

well i was more looking for how it works and maybe a diagram. there was a simple one on that other site, but i dont remember how it went, i think it was like a V with a line in the middle, or an N shape or something.

Well, flat black paint won't transmit but less than 10% of what hits it. You want light from each side to have to bounce a few times before it reaches the other opening. Use a flattened "N" shape. Paint it as you build it up.

been there done that. I decided im prolly gonna go with small pvc elbow like 1/4 inch for the intake at the bottom, and ill build a light trap for the exhaust which is my main concern as the bottom of the cab is sealed and has a 4 inch gap at the bottom with a lip so no light will come out there. just the exhaust.

im not too sure if 1/4 inch will allow enough air through... usualy people use the black sewer/drainage pipes for air...
yea elbows work. just put a piece of flat pipe first
