You don't, you reuse it.

Why waste 20 bucks buying 2 new bags of dirt, when your old dirt will work just the same?

MacDonalds. Gas Stations. Anyplace where motorists are expected to throw out trash.

The Public Landfill works just fine. Go during the week in the mornings when fewer folks are around, just in case a bag rips open. Just remember not to have any papers with your name on it amongst the litter in the bag.

As to reusing soil, yuk. As valuable as herb is it deserves to start fresh. IMHO

^that has to be the dumbest statement ever.

Look at an area that grows exceptional fruits/vegetables.

Do you think the soil is fresh? Nope, been recycled over and over, with more additives and beneficial microbestuff every day.

Buying new soil every go round is a waste of money. But hey, your pocketbook.

personally i think it is too much work to clean used soil just to save a buck per pot

I use to drive it down the road to an apartment complex and throw it one of their dumpsters, Dont get caught obviously.

but isn't that more suspicious than throwing it in your own dumpster ?
i thought about that but driving to someone else dumpster and than throwing something ... that would be suspicious to me :D

Well I dont think anyone could see me, I did it late at night and they had these dumpsters enclosed in like a wooden fence type deal in an alley, if the lids were open I could throw the little bags right into the dumspter from my car/truck.

I do not live in an apartment

But I do use my soil for other gardens around my house. Example I have all my winter soil out in my garden beds right now
Sure it looks a touch weird with so much perlite in there, but the plants love it

I never toss my soil!

I never toss my soil!

But I grow in 19 gallon tubs, grow organically and have a thriving worm colony in each tub. I just pull the plant, removing the larger roots from the soil, then I dig a hole and fill it with an empty 1 gallon pot. I water well with fertilized water (blood meal, molasses, kelp, etc) and let the worms work for a week. After a week, I remove the empty pot and slip in a well grown, 1 gallon clone or female seedling. Works for me!

I also sex my seedlings by taking clones and sticking the clones under 12/12, while the "mom" continues in veg mode. This has the advantages of allowing me to cull males early before any "damage" is done, and my females can continue in veg, getting bigger and bushier. And the little sex clones can be revegged or just grown out for an early taste of things to come. I reveg. The sex clones have "told" me what I need to know and it would seem "ungrateful" to just toss them.

Who cares how many posts I have?

I thought it was a stupid statement, who cares? Why continue to buy something when what you have is perfectly good? I grow in SOG beds, so I understand the importance of a strong soil mix.

Once you have a good soil foundation, you already KNOW your variables, and if you are doing an excellent job, why put more variables into the whole mix?

For instance, many many bugs travel through soil. Once you have eradicated all of the bugs from one batch, why would you want to start that all over?

Sounds like all the risk is on those who buy new soil every go around.

Apart the from the attention of purchasing 15-20 bags, you have to dispose of your old mix.

In the end, it sounds like the way I run gets me to grandmas house safer, and faster.

I could sit here and type all day, but then again, what good would it do me if I 'only' have 4x posts?

Pics? I have pictures, yes. What is that going to prove? That I can get it? Shat, I already know that. In fact, I have at least 250 bubba kush S1 seed, with many members of a couple different forumns with that seed in their garden. Anyway, whatever. I should have stopped at the second damn sentence. Good day.

I reuse mine for seed starting. I cut a box down, cut a square out of the bottom, taped a fine screen in it, and screen all the soil through it to get the large lumps of roots and large perlite out of it, then use it to start seeds since it has lost most of it's nutrients. It works great and is a great re-use of the soil. I'll also just use a part of it in a re-mix. In other words, if I'm mixing moonshine mix, which I normally do, I use the old soil in place of the light warrior. I just cut up all the roots, stems and leaves and add them to my burn pile when I'm burning off brush, but that wouldn't work in an apartment. You could always bag it in small bags and throw away at the filling station. They always have cans there and you are kind of expected to throw stuff in it.

The general consensus is that re-using soil could be bad, so why bother? A build of chemical nutrients is not found in nature. Sure you could recycle it and get away with it (I have once), but make sure you completely re-mix it and add new perlite and other soil additives.

And yeah I take my trimmings in a garbage bag to a big apartment complex dumpster. No one will know you don't live there. Soil I just throw in my backyard, and you could dump it anywhere and get away with it. I have way to much soil to take to dumpster.

Take it to a local business that has plantings--trees and shrubs. Wear overalls and a cap. Dump your soil around the plants. Problem solved!
