Micro CFL Grow - Inspired by DrBudGreengenes

So, this is my first real attempt at growing indoors. I intended it to be a perpetual harvest so I have 2 separate boxes. The mother/ clone box is 18 x 10 12 in. I am starting some seeds in there right now and will be selecting a mother or 2 from the strongest females.

The flower box is 24 x 30 x 24 in. For my soil I am using the same mixture as DrBud which is perlite, vermiculite, peat moss, and chicken compost. I will also be using the same containers that DrBud uses for his flowering plants - 20 oz bottles. In the mother/clone box I currently only have 1 2700k 27 watt cfl but will be adding more lights with different spectrum later.

I planted 3 germinated seeds in plastic dixie cups about 2 days and today 2 of them have sprouted. I haven't taken pictures yet but I will post pictures either later tonight or tomorrow afternoon.

I appreciate any comments or advice.

Peace,
m

Wall mart has the 23 watts 1600 lumens pack of 4 for 6-10 bucks I think and they have the 42 watt 2700 lumens for 9.99 each I just got some and they have the little cheap easy to use timers for 5 bucks. Good luck with your grow! What Strain did you germinate?

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah hopefully my walmart has those 42 watters because that's what ill be using to flower. I'll probably pick up a four pack now too because i need more lights in my veg box.

I just planted some bagseeds although one of the three cups you see in the picture has a seed i got from a bag of lemon skunk. hopefully the genetics are similar :rasta:

for lights go to 1000bulbs.com they have every size CFL u could ever need. if ya can fit them the 55watters have the best lumens per watt besides the 105w CFLs. 6-8,000 lumens per sq ft for veg @ 5-6500k an 8-10,000lumens per sq ft @ 2700k for flower, more is better. an the 55watters run cooler then the 42watters because there is more space inside the loops if that make sense, they put off more overall heat but less to the touch, i can touch the 55w without burning my hand but no way with the 42w, while my box runs 2f warmer with 6 55w CFLs then with 6 42w CFLs. hope that helps

Good to know CFL king. Do you think my plants would be able to touch the 55 watters without catching my box on fire or should i train them so that they don't come into contact with the bulb?

Thanks,
m

i wouldnt let them touch the 55watters but with plenty of air movement my gurl in flower now is 1-2inches away with no problem. i have 6 55w 2700k cfls in a 36"x20"x40" box painted flat white, with two 6" fans pushin 180-200cfm before the carbon filters, i have one on the intake an one on the exhaust so probly around 150cfm. the temps in the box range from 85-90f max depending on the room temp( my gf loves heat i like it cold...lol) but the bulbs can be touch without problem by hand not plant 1-2in is the closest id go

oh an i dont have my recommended lumens per sq ft, that is bc i took out 4 55w lights to allow me to lower the 6 of them to canopy level. im building a heat sheild for my next grow so i can have 12 55watters an i might add some LED lights at canopy level.

each 55w puts out 3600 lumens where as a 42w puts out 2700limens an a 65w puts out 3400 lumens!!!!

The 55w are exactly 1.75% more efficient than the 42's. Very negligible.

However, I do like those 55's, I have a couple. I like that they are mushroomed; more even light output. But they have to be mounted vertically to be effective and they are quite tall, ~8" I think so space isn't always permitting.

I'll probably just go with the 42 watters because i can get them from the store and DrBud uses them with really good results (21 grams per plant).

I haven't checked on the grow yet today but if there are any new plants i will post pictures.

Peace,
m

ya but dont expect to get 21g per plant, DrBud has had the same set up for years an a really big reason he gets those high yields is because of his strain "Chesaw". most other strians will only get half that. but dont get me rong DrBuds is still a genius

Have you tried the paper towel zip lock bad deal// I germinate in a paper towel then cover up the little root sometimes after 3 days in a paper towel they have already came out of the little shell so I just cover every thing but the tiny little leaf things and they stand up in around 12 hours
