given a choice between a 250 and a 400 i went with a 400. in my 400 cabinet I was harvesting 2 oz per plant in perpetual grow style with 2 plants every 3 weeks and 6 plants total.
a good rule of thumb is to expect .5 grams per watt

What would i do without people like you! It will be the 400 for sure, whats 150 watts anyhow. Ive got utilities included thats why i was a little worried. Ive got a desktop on 24/7 for like 3 years now i will start shutting it off that will make up for it almost. I am going with the lumatek 400 ballast, both mh and hps bulbs. Thx suga, 2 oz per plant is very nice 336 grams in 3 months almost a 2 years supply for me but i can change that lol.
You did dwc scrog in your 400 cab right?
What footprint would you suggest for a box?
I will be building mine with some nice hardwood veneer plywood. Now off to read your threads again lol. I am so grateful for everyone here, so many people, so many grows, so many pages, so much to learn, so little time

Well my 400 watt cabinet was 30"wide x 60"tall x 20" deep - which was about 4 square feet - giving 100 watts per square foot (wpsf) - which was really really intense.
If you're building your own cabinet I would suggest making it deeper than 20" which is the way mine came.
if you had a cabinet with a 24" deep by 30" wide you would have 5 square feet and that works out to a very nice 80 wpsf
30" x 30" would provide a little more room but probably is too deep - also drops the wspf down to 64.
I would go with roughly 30" wide by 24" deep.
And yes I did dwc scrog - there are details about it a page or two back in this thread.
As for yield - yes it was pretty good - the only reason I moved from the 150 up to the 400 was that I knew I would be going on hiatus and wanted to build up a stash that would last a few years. Growing with just the 150 I was able to build up a nice stash and never went without buds but I knew I wouldn't make it more than 6 months after lights whent off.
Be very careful about the utilities included thing - do you rent from a company or a person?
there was a guy on here who had a cabinet running with a 400 watter in there and his landlord was a wicked dick and basically found out.
if you're leasing from a company (property management type) I would not sweat it at all - but if you're renting from a person be careful.

I just finished reading this thread again. I totally missed your nute schedule on page 4 the first time around and i was glad to of found it this time around. The whole nute thing was the only thing i was scratching my head over. Page 4 is a def must read to anyone wanting to try dwc.

going perpetual is the best way to do this - by this I mean having clones ready and vegged to go into flower soon as you harvest allowing the main lamp to run 12/12 non stop...

Hey suga i broke down and invested about 425 bucks into a nice smaller setup and finally collected most of the things i need. So far i have bought:
175mh with bulb for 55 shipped,
400 hps sunlight supply with cord set for 60 shipped,
452cfm 6" vortex and speed control for 210 shipped,
380cfm odorsok for 60 shipped.
Advanced nutes for 38 shipped
I still need a 400 bulb, a 6" vented reflector(70 shipped), but i got a few weeks before i get settled into the new apartment so i got some time to pick up those things. I am going to be doing a soil run first then hydro next if i cant afford a air pump, buckets, meters etc.
Anyway, thanks again for getting me off my lazy ass and finally buying some stuff. I got some wicked deals, and i spend days finding the cheapest price and i waited and waited for the right deals to come my way. I am planning one big cab with both the 175 and 400 in flower, or a perpetual thing with the 400 flowering and 175 vegging. I want to try out the new CMH bulbs in my cab.
I looked at like 29 apartments and i found my own separate place, away from everything, and the landlord takes rent through the mail and is apparently 85 years old and will be away for months on end at a time, hehe.

Lol on the 85 year old landlord - good work you have done your homework as well as found the right apartment - best of luck to you! The only caution I have is that the odorsok's have recieved mixed reviews at best. I would consider returning it if you can and getting a can33 filter - seems most people who have tried the odorsok found it to be a great and promising idea, but the smell was not controlled past the first week.
I like the CMH bulbs as well and would probably be running one in my 400 cabinet if I still was running it.

Sorry about the shotty cam work,, I grew these out with a single 400 MH.... I just bought a new 400 HPS, so now I can have both spectrums hitting the plants... I run these lights vertical and naked (no hood) it makes it easy as pie to keep the cab cool.... I just started another 12/12 with these same strains, to see how the extra 400 HPS coupled with the MH does on the flowering... I think, I can pull some weight out of there this time..... That was my first ever time scOgging, so don't laugh to hard at me...LOL

I scored another light, so as long as I give the plants what they want, ,they should do fine...... I don't blame IC for the 50 post count, to keep the flamers, and trolls out, or atleast make it hard for them...lol

These are some Aurora Indica's I'm vegging.... The HPS light messed the pic up bad, and the second pic is Jack Herer x NL, which is a strong growing plant... Both are strong growing plant

Hey Suga.So I heard you stopped growing for awhile.I hope you didnt run into security problems.I also quit growing for awhile so that makes two of us.Though I only quit growing indoors.Lol.DOing a nice outdoor this year.
P.S any strains you reccemend that are easy to grow outdoors with very fast flowering times?

I run my lights at night to draw the coolest air I can into the cab, so I may of had some timer issues.. I have the one timer in the house with me now, and I'm not using it for one of the 400's I'm running... I'm going to check this timer out inside the house to make sure it's set right before re installing it back in my grow...Just to be on the safe side....
Oh well, it says the uploading is temporaily disabled... I'll come back later on, and check on you, Sugarbear 11

I thought I'd share my new toy I got yesterday... I had to have it this time around... I got a carbon scrubber for odor control...... Plus a pic or two of the plants, that are starting to take off, after 36 hrs. of darkness, then 12/12 right after the dark out period... I'm sold on the 36hrs dark out... I'm way ahead in the flowering compared to my last grow, of the same strains...
The first pic is where i trimmed the underbrush... No light can possibly get down to it, and it's just drawing my water, and nutrients away from the tops, where it's needed the most
the rest of the pics are just random pics of the carbon scrubber, and a pic of the Big Bud Super Skunk starting to form some buddage
