hey bearfoot, i think your buds have some sort of a disease.

sparklitis, or maybe trichomanus abdunis!

trying to post some pics, but it locks up on me after the upload/submit, just hangs on the green background of icmag after it sends the file.

anyone else having some issues uploading pics?

Allow me to re-introduce myself...... What's going on Tri-State? I know, I know, it's been way too long but I'm back. This time for real. After a couple months of false starts, a couple of months battling spider mites, and a couple more months of sitting on my ass, I have finally re-entered the wonderful world of flowering plants. Today is day 1 of a new journey. And no new journey would be complete w/out pix. So w/out further ado let's take a gander at my humble beginnings.

Again, I have to give a huge shout out to Zombo, who came thru for me in more ways than one. I'll start by re-posting the plants that I was blessed with back in Oct. The cups are still labeled, so the front row is evident, second row is Rhino Horn on the left, and the other 4 are PIMP sisters. In the back are Bubba Kush, SSSDH, and Double D.

Unfortunately, my Rhino Horn and Straw D were lost to spider mites. It was sad. There's a runty little Straw D clone that's hanging on by a thread that you'll see later, but I'm not holding out much hope for her. If I only knew someone that could hook me up.......

The PIMP sisters are just about finished at an undisclosed location in the Garden State. Should be finished by the end of the month if I'm guessing right.

OG Kush S1, Bubba, SSSDH, and Double D moms are still a little beat up from the mites, but alive.

Now for the new adventure. I have decided to switch to a DIY ebb and flow setup for this round. It's made up of a cement mixing container from one of those home improvement stores, 19 four inch pots, and fittings, res and pumps from my previous grows.

Here's a few pix of the setup. Right now there's two Double D's and two OG Kush S1's in there.

The pump is on an Intermatic digital timer. I'm gonna wait till I can run out and get some batteries for it b4 I set the schedule, but based on what I've read, I'm going to flood the girls 3 times a day; during sunrise (6P), early afternoon (2A), then once again in the middle of the nite (Noon). They are sunning under an 800W dual-spectrum DIY hood in my portable closet. I decided to stick with GH nutes for now, Lucas Formula all the way.

This is the first time I've ever attempted something like this and it wouldn't have been possible without help and guidance from these forums. Any and all feedback is much appreciated.

Here's a pic of two OG Kush S1's on the right, then two runty looking clones on the left. The one in front is a Double D (I think) and the one in the back is definitely my scrawny little Straw D. She's proven to be a tough cookie, so you never know.

Again, any and all questions, comments, shout outs are welcome and much appreciated. Damn it feels good to come home. L8r.

Vin,

Nice to be back. First time with ebb & flow so I'm looking for feedback and suggestions. For example, my pots don't fit nicely in the tray. What should I put in there to snug things up? Seems like as the water rises things start to look like the pots will float away! I was gonna fill in around the pots with hydroton, but that will make moving the pots that much more difficult. Any suggestions.

Bake: Sounds to me like you're flooding the tray too high, that's when E&F pots will tend to "float" on ya. Also, I think it's a good Idea to add some "Egg Crate" fluoro light diffusers like this:

They don't help with the floating pot thing, but it keeps your pots out of any pooled water the doesn't completely drain which tends to happen w/ these homemade E&F trays.

Question though, how often do you flood? 15 min every 3 hours? That's the schedule I used to use with Quart sized pots, yours are @ 1/2 gallon. To keep the pots from moving around play with Flood height vs. Flood Frequency.....

IE: flood to less of a depth in the tray and flood more often to compensate. The basic rule of thumb though is to flood to the top 1 1/2 - 2" of the pot

Bake, what's up bro, so glad to have you back. Still got that Bubba and she is just too good. I still owe you, so you hit me up anytime. As far as the Ebb and Flow, that's what I run in my flower room, and I just made another for my moms. I am using the exact same concrete mixing container for my moms. I only flood about 2" deep, but I flood every 2 hours for 15 min. During Lights out in my flower room, I only flood once. Right in the middle of the 12 hour dark period. I've messed around with the schedule some, and you will find everyone has a diff. opinion. I just messed until I found what works best.

I don't have problems with the pots floating, as long as I don't flood too high. As soon as the plants get some size, they don't move at all. For flowering, I've found I need something for support, so I use trellis netting found at gardening stores. I just get it at the hydro shop. About 5bucks.

I know what you mean about the container you're using not holding the pots right. I am gonna find something to put in the bottom. Those "Egg Crate" fluoro light diffusers sound perfect. I just need a level surface to work with. If and when I get the money, I will replace it with a hydroshop bought table. It's just so much easier, doesn't bow in the middle, completely flat with grooves to keep plants out of standing water, etc.

I'll help you in any way I can. Good to have you home.

Power to the Tri State!

Currently the largest and best looking of the three Casey Jones's (this was hiding behind other plants and I had no idea how large it was. What a pleasant surprise!

Hey guys doing a lot better then I was the other week. Wish more could be said for my plants as I am starting over. HAHA never had this much problem before but then again I am also not used to growing indoors lol. Anyway this isnt the reason for this post. I was wondering how many of you in the Local Tri-State area have ventoured over to Holland? I have been trying to organize a trip for the 09 cup amung some people I know but unfortunately my Airfare became victim to rent when I was layed off from work after getting out of the Hospital. Anyway I am still going to be working on organizing a trip for the cup of 09 if anyone is interested. If all works out Ill be joined by a canadian friend & will have a few stoners I know in the UK joining as well. Maybe even a local friend who is friends with Arjan ( greenhouse Seed Co) who goes every year. Other then that Its been a rather frustrating first few weeks for me & all the talk of the recession hasn't made me feel better with whats going on in the news. Also currently looking for a new dank connection because mine has decided he has more money making potential selling coke & wont deliver a 1/2 lb of smoke cause it isn't enough profit for him so i been stuck with picking up bags with a weight of a 1/2 ounce or less & its been screwing my pocket up as well. Yeah well such is life I guess.

CF & Bearfoot, It's nice to be back! I'm excited about '08! Great things about to happen. Frank, your Gints are down, but I'm picking them to take this one and beat the Pats.

Stoned Teacher, your plants are looking delicious! Keep up the good work.

I'mNotCrazy, I think that diffuser will do the trick. I was thinking about cutting the drain tube down a bit, but this will accomplish the same thing and keep the pots from sitting in water, though I did pop a few holes in the bottom of the container. Just big enuff to drain the last coupla ounces of water, but not so big that they slow down the flood.
