Getting busted, long term effects

Y

yamaha_1fan

Just in case you thought getting arrested, spending a few hours in a cell, going to court and spending some time on probation or in jail was enough. Well think again. There are permanent life time effects for getting busted.

A while ago I applied for health insurance. I made the mistake of telling them my last physical was in prison. Then they had to ask what for etc etc. Long story short I got declined coverage because of my possession charge. And yes I contacted an attorney and he told me there was nothing I could do.

Now we have a business and cant bid on certain govt jobs, etc etc. Also SEC 8 has (or had) a policy on allowing landlords with criminal pasts

So just a reminder what the long term effects are.

Getting busted, puts you in a hole that makes it harder and harder to dig yourself out of.

I sort of understand the whole section 8-landlord thing. Do not want people being taken advantage of or put into compromising position. But no way on health insurance. What the f*** does a criminal background have anything to do with health insurance. Every freaking convict gets free health care but a working stiff with a checked past cannot get any. This whole system is upside down.

Just wait until this country (USA) goes to Universal health care. Your going to see tons of this.
Find THC in system=Denied health coverage.
Nicotine in system= Denied health coverage
Red meat in system= Denied coverage

According to Hillery she can see a day when you must prove you have health care in order to work!

More control over your life its all they really want.

It makes one wonder what the hell people are thinking of when some of these draconian laws get passed. Sorry to hear of your misfortune Yamaha. :joint:

and theres always the long term effect of being denied at the Canadian border because you havent been officially "rehabilitated" by the US govt.

I have heard different things about this. I have heard stories of people flying to Canada and actually being told to get back on a plane and go home.

What is the exact policy of a convicted felon entering Canada?

Whizzard, no biggie, I have been dealing with this for years so I am used to it. Next time I apply for insurance I wont mention the jail time.

I cant even be an official coach on my kids sports teams because I cant clear the background check. So I may grow weed, doesnt mean I cant teach some young kids some sports skills in front of 20 other kids and their parents.

Just wanted people to know theres more than some time or probation. Getting busted will follow you forever.

yepp. getting busted can effet you alot in the future. but alot depends on how much you had/have invested in what gets busted.
I personally lost many years of work, thousands in equipment, and 10's of thousands of seeds. court/attorney fees, and fines broke me. a few times since, and recently, Ive narrowly avoided foreclosure of my home and property. the list goes on.

the effects are long term, and costly.

bottom line, if yer growing and dont want to get busted, be carefull, dont be stupid, and good luck!

Peace, bub.

:fsu: Well shit then how we supposed to get health care if we cant get jobs? I got a fucked up record & I am usually lucky to find a job that actually provides insurance. I finally got insurance for the first time in years after fighting with them to start my policy. :cuss: The US is truely going to shit. Wonders if we will be able to sue the US Gov't when a mass epidemic starts & we all get sick because of limited or no healthcare.

The worst effects from getting busted (imo), especially for something as insignificant and unjustified as cannabis would be...Survival after you get out, who hires a felon? (even if you're really just a gardener, but labelled a felon by Big Bro...)

You need $$ to live, and only 1 alternative remains after being labelled a felon. CRIME! Good thing you picked up an "education" while you were inside, eh?

And they wonder why crime rates are constantly rising. They are creating new criminals out of honest ppl at an ever-increasing rate. Even the most straight and honest joe who would never hurt a soul normally would do almost anything necessary if it was a matter of survival. (lie, cheat, rob, shoplift, deal the hard stuff )

Jail time for pot, especially self-provided has gotta go the way of the T-rex...Fast. But it won't because it's a well known fact that greed, lies, lust for power and corruption drive the powers that be almost everywhere. Way more than real honest truth and justice does...

All I can say is that there is only 1 thing that would ever completely stop me from doing what I enjoy... (personal growing/ responsible use of cannabis), and yes i would say it to a judge.

"Put the bullet right here"...(points at forehead)... Worst thing is it'd probably come to that point way before true justice gets even so much as a fleeting flicker of consideration...

Am I angry about it? Damn right, and more should be...

edit:

Peace

I wasn't aware of all the restrictions on traveling for felons. I just googled it and read a couple sites... just ridiculous

I wonder how much it affects getting a job if one has a college degree

what would likely happen to someone if they got busted for cultivation and 3 years prior to that they were busted for a felony cultivation charge but w/probation it was adjudication withheld ..so that means, not a convicted felon.. is jail time inevitable even with a great lawyer?

way too many factors. The prior cultivation charge may not be as much as of a factor as just what kind of points does it carry. In some states, each charge carries a certain amount of points. Priors count but on a limited basis, maybe half points. There may be a time factor on the priors too.

If busted, you need to get a good lawyer. Feel free to interview them and see what they say. I met with several and the lawyer I used in the past had already pulled the warrant/affidavits etc after I called but before I even met with him. Guess who I chose?

As far as a college degree, doubt it matters. Theres plenty of others with a degree who are not felons

this is a good post.I have been convicted of growing, but I had a trade that doesn,t check backgrounds, grateful. If you grow for dough.put money back for lawyer.this will save your rear at a later time.I read today that people under prop 215(cali) are not protected from drug test that come back positive and employers can fire you legally.that sucks.people vote for a measure and it is useless in job security.Peace

Can you spell FOOKED?

How has your luck been with traveling after getting Arested?

How has your luck been with traveling after getting Arested?

My convictions themselves were drug related but weren't drug charges. All my charges have been Felonies of the 2nd Degree except for a small possesion of seeds :bashhead: And a Paraphinelia charge and a few other misdemeanors for lying to the cops & fleeing from custody . :muahaha: Anyone ever been deported or turned around @ Borders when trying to cross into another country? :badday: I am asking because I am currently working on getting my first passport. which kinda sucks because the USA started the RFID Chipped Passports last August :cuss: :1help: Sucks knowing that I wont get of my own country with out getting that chip & not to mention am going to have to prove I am an American upon reentry. Doesnt sound like the chip works. But thats another note. Anyway any felons out there that got denied entry into other countries so i know not to waste my $$$ flying their for vacation lol I know i going to have one hell of a time with Canada already :cuss: As I tried to go there once & got turned around but that was before we needed passports to enter the country
