Looking for that PINE!

I've ran the PTK and the '79 Xmas Bud. unfortunately either is anything like the old late 80s Pine Bud. what u are looking for is original Friesland. Pink hairs super quick harvested by Sept 15th. I lost the mother 15 ish years ago and still haven't found anything even close...including Kwik seeds Friesland and Real Gorilla seeds Freezeland, numerous Pine tar kushes and 79 x mas buds. RGS Freezeland was closest but still pretty far off. good luck finding the Pine!

Seed Whore
Pretty sure I did not make a mistake. And rather confident the source is legit. The offering even says: “Yes, this is the pure Friesland (M33) and has not been hybridized.” So possibly I ordered from the one vendor you know of.

I always appreciate finding an extra seed or two in packs I’ve ordered - it’s a nice bonus. But 5?!? That’s awesome. Got extra seeds in every pack I ordered and even the freebies came with extras. This was the second order I have placed with Kwik Seeds and most assuredly not the last.

I always add extra seeds. ;) Hope you enjoy them. :giggle:

Got some ‘79 XMAS bud as freebies from CSI. Germed the whole pack and will be split up for outdoor breeding this year. Anyone have experience with her?
yes I've grown it indoor and outdoor. super squatty small plant. outdoors lucky to reach 4' rock hard small sticky buds. done around Oct 1st. nice indica body buzz but unfortunately no flavor. that was the deal breaker for me. I've crossed it with a few modern strain with only mediocre results. good luck with it im sure there are a few hidden gem phenos to still be had.

Thanks for the reply, I’m having similar results thus far. Seems well inbred, half of them quite runty with variegation, and fair susceptibility to insects/fungus. I love the indica Christmas tree structure, they are definitely old school with a skunky smell as you walk by and a thick indica smell on the stem, some more chocolate/skunk some more piney. Excited to see them flower.

No flavor is all to common among non kush types and unfortunate to hear. Getting bred to Guerilla gold x NL5 Haze & Guerilla gold x MOB/Blueberry males.

What latitude did you grow them? And how many did you grow?

Are you part of kiwk seeds?

I grew the Deep chunk 2 seasons ago outdoors side by side with Deep chunk repel from a member here.

The Kwik seeds version seemed like a hybrid, also had a plant that auto’d. Taller and bigger budded then original DC. What is it crossed with?

I ended up with 7 females indoors. kept what I thought was the best pheno. all were similar. short squatty bright green seeded them all with the 3 males. pine/skunk smell. grew 1 clone outdoors at 45th parallel and was done Oct 1st. indoors quick 47-54ish days. super unique plant what I would describe as the "true" afghany...not the new tootie fruity so called modern washed out afghany. I'm sure at one time the 79' had great flavor but lost it at some point. my seeds came from Hazeman..."pine tar kush" he called but was actually the 79' X mas bud mislabeled as we all later found out. hope u get a tasty pheno....let me know if u do..

Do you know if hazeman supplied csi with his seeds or was it vice versa? Im also at 45N east coast, cheers
neither I don't think but their 79' is from same source as I've read plus I've grown csi and is same plant as hazeman. the real pine tar kush is a whole different strain though. taller, lengthier sweeter smells less skunk. a different shade of "pine" both old tired inbred lines. if someone has time to do their "magic" those strains might make a comeback.

I changed my plans up a bit. Just planted some seeds of the 79' xmas bud and will grow them out with my Skywalker OG clone. Going to flower the clones of the romulan male in another area and freeze the pollen to pollinate the Skywalker with. This way I get a look at the Xmas Bud without needing to wait. Besides that the male clones were quite more delveoped than my Skywalker clone so the timing was going to be funky to do a seed run with them all in the same tent.
That Xmas bud is definitely very very piney. More of an evergreen pine but definitely 100% pine. A few of the phenos I ran had a bit of citrus pine but still mostly pine.

I hit my Skywalker OG with the xmas bud pollen, but haven't run them yet. definitely will in the near future.

that sounds interesting. I hit a really good larry og clone with 79' pollin. haven't had time to work with it. gotta keep those meat and potato strains going for now. maybe over winter.

This is the closest stuff I've found to the old dutch SSSC Friesland. Freezeland an old Canadian cross of the Friesland. I've gone thru 7-8 females so far. no keepers but did have one that actually reminded me slightly of the stuff. Good resin and flavor. i bought a 25 pack to pheno hunt for that 1 special keeper. I believe RGS Freezeland is actually sourced from the original Breeder Brad stuff. if youre looking for that northern late 80s early 90s outdoor pine bud that flooded northern Michigan and Ontario this is probably as close as you will come. Still hoping to come across some legit Friesland but in the meantime this will do. No pink hairs indoors only outside so far. I'm a whore for pink haired pine weed.

Here is the Friesland (M33) from KWIK I have going at the moment. Wasn't old enough to indulge in the original:(. I am glad to have these reproduction IBL lines though. This one has been extremely uniform so far with deviations only in pistil color and terpene. I'll let you know if I find that pure pine in any!!!

I thought it was a mischievous ruse done by the person who provided the seed(?)
Thats what I've been told too but since I wasn't personally there I left the reason out of it. Supposedly the person who supplied the seed to him was pissed about him selling genetics he was supposed to be giving out (or something like that), so they purposely mislabeled the seeds before giving them to him.

Glad to hear this. I was going to pop some '79 next but with you and @browntrout popping some and the differing reports on whether there's true pine to be found I will hold off and await your guys' reports. My Romulan pack came with sixteen seeds so I think I will pop six of them as well as ten of the Friesland on the next leg of this hunt. The pic of Friesland @Radicle Rye posted in the Freezeland thread is a beautiful plant (great job ) and he reports a pine nose... so I'm excited now about Friesland's possibilities but won't be too disappointed if the strong pine nose isn't there as that's not what I grabbed the seeds for.

@troutman How fixed is the pine in the Friesland? One in ten; one in five? Or possibly it's fixed but just to varying degrees?

Well I had hoped to report back again once all the PTK were sexed but it's proving a slow road getting there. As of now I only have one plant that's declared, a girl. Interestingly it's an outlier with its leaf morphology being the fattest leaflets of the group. And I have one that has double serrations. But for the most part they're very similar, as should be expected from an IBL. I last checked them a few days ago and will do so again tonight, hopefully more will be able to be confirmed. They're in rather tight quarters with others so some pics have other plants visible but PTK is the two rows of five to the right.

Really hoping they are all confirmed and ready to flip by Labor Day weekend.

Happy Sunday!

I'm from MA as well and what's funny is I used to buy mids from my roommate almost a decade ago. It was decent smoke, definitely indica, and it had an overwhelming pine smell to it. I never came upon weed again that smelled so strongly of pinene. I even saved the seeds and labeled them "Xmas Tree Bud". I've been wanting to pop them, but I have limited space and so many other proven hype strains to grow. Maybe some time in the future I'll experiment with them for shits & giggles.

It's in there, so grow organically and preferably outdoors if you can.

Friesland - I popped half a pack and am growing organic outdoors...I will report back if there is pure pine!!!
