If so, what strains have you got your hands on and how are you feeling about them if you're willing to tell?

well. tell me abit about youre intentions. I know 3 old Lines from Marocco, Turkey and Egypt from the 70s.. but i dont give my links to people who just buy them and runn off.
Especially the Turkish must be preserved,, even its a fullon Indica version of turkish, but it must.

Hey, thanks for your input!

Right now I have seeds from Morocco (Beldia and Ketama), Turkey (One unknown Heirloom), and Sudan (Two separate inbred domestics) from your list. I have nothing from Egypt, Niger, Algeria, Chad, or any of the other surrounding regions known to farm the plant.

I’m not so much interested in getting my hands on seeds from Brazil or North Africa as I am wondering if there are those out there who have grown, inbred, or crossed them yet. I’m particularly interested in anyone having used a Brazilian strain (from anywhere there, doesn’t have to be a Landrace Amazon plant) and might be able to tell me about the male plants. Architectures, scents, yields, etc.

I’m not too big on crossing. I like to keep my photo strains as pure as I got them and keep them as fresh and strong as I can. Inbreeding has been my way.

And, man, I think more people should be checking out the Turkish cultivars! I think they can be just as good if not more interesting in some cases than the popular hash plants used today. Like the Brazilians, they’re out there but I rarely come across anyone talking about them.

I’m really just curious to know if others have direct growing experience with either a Brazilian or North African line. I wonder if they might be able to tell me a little bit about them so I can decide if either of those regions has a plant that might interest me.

I've grown and reproduced the Sinai strain from The Real Seed Company (Kwik Seeds, if you are in the US). It is a traditional Egyptian cultivar. Nice herb. Not 'top shelf' or anything but worth growing at least once in my opinion. Especially if you are curious about different herbs from around the world. There are interesting and diverse plants to be found in that seed stock. I know nothing about anything brazilian.

The 'Ketama' strain from World of Seeds is not considered legit, but is a very, very nice heavy indica plant.

Someone else gave me a pointer to RSC earlier and now I've seen the Sinai you mention. Very interesting. I'm not completely oblivious to RSC as I've listened to Angus on a few podcasts and have read some of his blog posts from time to time. I also didn't know of the KS sister site and see there are even more selections available. He's grown! But it's been a while for me to be out looking for seeds.

If you'd like, if you recall can you tell me about the sturdiness or robustness of the Sinai? Do you think that plant holds up to environmental stresses well? Anything remarkable or memorable about its scent?

in my view, northern African Landraces are not ver well known.. this leaves me questioning if they were among the best or not..

I mean marrocan was just the nearest Landrace region known to europeans.. probably its not THE best of the best either.. Not telling a good Marrocan wasent the finest herb, and way better than this modern Hybrid Stuff (in my oppinon).

I would say marrocan was looking and sounding "quiet cool" . But Middle eastern are very special.I just read lately that a Lebanese sample had shown one of the overall highest known Cannabionoidcontents ever. (i mean all the other Cannabinoids, like cbn Thcv cbd thc, all cannabinoids very present). I would tend to go for these wellknown regions first. Lebanese or surrondings ,

I once smoked an unknown Strain, smelled like perfume, and perfume smells are coming from Middle east Landraces, so: my supposed Leabnese? was one of the most favored ever Strains i got.
It had like described earlyer a very balanced high.. was good for morning, afternoon, night... it was insanely smooth smoke, and i always knew nobody would refuse this weed, no type of smoker.. not even the sativa heads , not even the Indica Heads.. It was very high endorphine, my forehead ever so slightly sweaty, my slight backpain- gone, my legs still strong, not incomparing me at all.. few sideeffects, not too much anxiety like 99 percent of weed.

And i think i found a similar Turkish Line beeing sold.. It was THE weed that i would give a sceptic. Irrestable perfume smell-- insanity. (yeah, and it grew well here 45 latitude.)

Excellent info. Thanks a heap!

You added to a bunch of other information I collected here and there, almost all saying nearly the same thing. That north African strains simply don’t have the oomph and boom that other nearby regions have. Very helpful information.

I recall the Moroccan blonde hash boom where I was living at the time back in the 80s. Everybody wanted to grab some if it. To me, it was kind of bland and not very potent. Of course, what you get is whatever the grower’s skill was so I don’t know if I just never tried it done by someone really skilled at growing, sifting, pressing, curing. It was, however, very smooth as you mention and often very sweet in both scent and taste.

And I am very happy to read what you wrote about your Turkish experiences! I think that country has very fine cultivars to be had. See, this is why I’m interested in the Brazilian strains. I know from my own personal use that Turkish plants can’t be poo-pooed at and definitely not ignored so I strongly wonder how impressive some Brazilians are on the other side of the spectrum.

I really appreciate all this information you gave up from what you know. Very cool and very helpful.

your intentions sound good. nice to have another supposed preserver onboard.
Thanks. I'm a preserver by default :D. I just grow and inbreed the plants when I need to. But, yeah, I'm keeping what I have alive and well to the best of my ability anyway.

Certainly. It's a fairly small to medium plant from the desert. Being a desert plant makes for a high susceptibility to bud rot in the late stages of flowering if not kept dry or arid. This particularly for the more indica leaning phenos. There are mostly indica leaning or sativa leaning phenos, but I did get a strange vine pheno. These are semi autoflower. They will begin producing flowers at around five weeks veg. But you still need to trigger the flowering cycle if indoors. The smells are strawberry banana mostly with a bit of cedar after curing.

I could never ask for a better personal take on a plant than that. Thank you!

I'm going to keep that cultivar on my radar. Although I don't have much experience with semi-auto varieties, it has my attention. Now I'm wondering if I can incorporate such a plant with my new auto-flower cross focus. I'm really looking to find and stabilize a squat and fast flowering auto that meets my medicinal needs. To have a plant I can crank out in half the time it takes for a photo has really had my attention for almost a year now. This one might be suited for me. I already grow out my indoor Indica strains with a gradual ramp up to an increasingly acrid and hot environment. I've even adjusted my media to accommodate my plants tendencies to want serious aeration in the root zone and abnormally high calcium content. So, this Sinai could very well be a contender for me.

Thanks again, man. Very helpful!

is there anyone interested in preserving the turkish.
i am gone from here in 2, 3 weeks, till then i try to find a member to preserve it.. it will die, fucking die.. its so sad. im not even asking for beans in return. just keep it alive . i pray someone does, cause i fucking know what is the best. i smoked the best in switzerland, or say im firm, when something is good.. and thats a rare case that i give a good rating for a strain.. i have links for 70s thai, 70s turkish, 1920 north indian.. but the turkish is the highest on the list of qualities.. i meditate to see the effect of a plant, i read the earlyest to the newest post on all the forums.. i tell you, you peoples are missing out..
its not perfect, cause there were more sativa turkish, but its insane compared to modern landraces.. its just wasted energy.. every day.. grow the 70s stuff ask me for links.. till in 3 weeks im gonna say chiao to all of you probably, and then its over.. turkish gone.. only 2020 genetics remaining. lol
(add: of corse i will stay here in pm.. but nomore chatting on threads)

Thanks for the offer but I'm good, man. My grow schedule is full for about the next four years! It's going to be challenge enough for me to live that long! I'm already probably chomping off more than I can really chew.

The Turk I have is probably from the late 70s to early 80s. I know what you mean too. If you have anything like I have it's super earth-hashy in every respect. From the grow and rub scent right down to the cure and taste. Hashy galore. I love it. I don't know why it's not more popular. My guess is that it is either too unknown or too difficult to get hold of and grow out indoors. I really don't know. I just know it makes very fine brown hashish and smokes old school style with that deep and fertile earth smoking experience.

Now all of a sudden I'm thinking about the Turkish.:censored: I'm starting to get the itch to grow it out again. But I can't right now. 😭

TYRENING POST ABOUT MY LIVE
its the same in music. nobody listens to jimi hendix, everybody listens to justin bieber , and ac dc.. people dont even listen to nirvana.. most dont.. its mega hard for me to realise this, cause im working on preserving the best of the best.. atleast in some peoples views..
npt meaning to fight over personal taste.. but its really crazy, nobody feels for thai and stuff anymore.. all i hear about thai is: oh its not so cool, oh i smoked 2020 thai, its cool, its not so cooll.. no idea what peoples are talking about..

for me its sad, its really hard, in 3 weeks im gone.. i wont nomore try to get somebody to preserve it. it will be somerhing that i care alot, i spent the most time on forums for hardcore reseach.. and i spent alot time, and some time will be wasted.. this is wasted opportunity,
peoples often take a fraction of time, read that most grow realseedcompany manipuri and off they go.. grow the same as 100s before them. Nice for them, but,, theyre listening alot for reputation. they dont want to be the first to try a untested line.. even if it ws tested.. they hear a bad word about the vendor and fall for it.. but most often its not true.. its someone just bla blaing.. haha. thats a major problem.
I understand iteven. would i spent a fraction of the time i spent i would try to get a short anwser.. sadly short anwsers are sometimes /often wrong ansers in this field.. IMHO.. i had to go trough this too..

But one thing differs between me and most, i smoked the best, no doubt, i flied to the edges of the universe on thai, entered the mystique of afghani, and seen the elegance and enless perfection of middle eastern (supposedly).. the weed i smoked was all old lines no doubt. cause only old lines make you fly to space.. i had the advantage of recognizing what i once smoked, while reading all the threads--

so, thats why im super convinced people dont know aht theyre missing.. not many contries had the best of the best sold on the street, thai sold on the street.. only switzerland.. i mean basically only Switerland.. ok, in the 70s yes, that happend too, so, me and old stoners know what youre missing. the rest will only read what still reamins, and 99 percent of the remaning Lines are modern. so they will set their measurement to those standards and smokereports.. wich are NOT the same.. A thai is the most hallucinogenic substance, an afghani is the most rollercoaster-stommage feel with a mystical feeling so deep., a middle estern is the most easygoing understandable landrace, for most of people.. but people dont know that.. they hear about those halflived modern effects, like: oh i was so eited from thi thai, it was so cool.. cool .. but tss.

Old is gold once for all, old is gold, why the hell does nobody give me any trust.. no offence, but wha the hell,, why the hell does nobody listen to jimi nomore.. its so frustrating having to party study and do it all on my own sometimes.. and my power for the middlea eastern runs out, my money, and my time.. im caught up with the most important projects first.. im done.. learn from it or not.. THIS IS ALL MY OPPINION. no offense, but, yeah.., its tyrening.. ooh, i havent shown you enough grows, oh others have shown dozens of seedruns, they might be more knowledgable.. they arent.. i am fucking firm they arent.. not as knowledgable as me, cause i had it all.. just not in seedform.. it was coming and going to fast for me to grab it.. when it was in my hands in year 2000 Swituerland , the biggest accumulation of Breeders, seedvendors and oldschool potheads in the world .. (oh of corse you havent heard too much about it.. it was short and small, and it was also a bit enclosed..)

IMHO IMHO IMHO.

so, yeah,, write me, im not angry, maybe just freaking tired.., im your friend, thank you for listening to a last scream for help.. (helping yourselve)
let me proove it to you: little wing is on the top list of most beautiful songs ever.. but people dont listen to one outstanding song.. they need 100s minutes of average wuality.. they dont use their energy for the heighest most outstanding moment they can reach.. they use their energy for a pretty good time.. i dont.. so yeah. nobody listens to jimi hendrix, but everyone feels his songs can be the most beautiful. for a secound or two.

No worries, my friend. I completely understand your position. Not only do I walk the same plant path you do, I live it, too.

As it happens, I still listen to Jimi. His spirit was as ancient as clay and even the most contemporary of guitarists still find it hard to believe he was doing off the top of his head what he was doing when he was doing it. He's an example. One of many that have popped up in our hysterically violent culture. A kind of jester intended to soothe disquieted minds in the throes of chaos.

I'll leave you with this, my friend. An answer by the Master in the form of a question. Good luck on your own quest of preservation.

Are You Experienced?

Jimi Hendrix

If you can just get your mind together
Then come on across to me
We'll hold hands an' then we'll watch the sun rise from the bottom of the sea
But first
Are you experienced?
Have you ever been experienced?
Well, I have
I know, I know
You'll probably scream n' cry
That your little world won't let you go
But who in your measly little world are trying to prove that
You're made out of gold and -a can't be sold
So-er, are you experienced?
Have you ever been experienced?
Well, I have
Ah, let me prove it to you
Trumpets and violins, I can hear in the distance
I think they're calling our names
Maybe now you can't hear them, but you will
If you just take hold of my hand
Ah! But are you experienced?
Have you ever been experienced?
Not necessarily stoned, but beautiful...

hey, i didnt direct it to you, but shows you have some good heart, thank you for this wonderful insights into phylosophie.

i tried to say, if you people dont get this turkish, then atleast trust me if i say , the best vendors and strains often have a bunch of people bla blaing, and ruining their reputation.. Reeferman, the best example.. so, beware of short oneliners complaining about a given Line.. beware of short conclusions, especially of the conclusions just telling the yeald wasnt there, the smell was off.. or "its hybredised".. so many statements that i dont believe. i had to learn to disbelieve them even if a whole bunch of folks tell the same..

Oldschoolba is an example. read about it, and everyone tells you its fake its fake.. well, why is then snohighseeds suddenly reproducing the hoabac from oldschoolba? why? is he so fake too? ooh yeah he gets also so much bad sentences too.. the best people get the worst reviews.. i dunno why..

beware of fast conclusion.s. beware of easy conclusions, cause its not.. most people telling you about a 2020 thai, beeing so cool.. but some folks telling you about hallucinogenic weed, and still not biting.. offering you 70s thai links.. but musta be fake.. thats sad.. but , enjoy whatever you enjoy, ill leave you now. So, that probably means BY, BY icmag.. was cool. bit tyrening, but cool to find out wich strains i once smoked.. the earlyer posts (2000s 2010) are the most impressive the tripweed thread, also the reviaval of Sativa thread.. BY BY.. pms open for 3 weeks, after then im gone.

Peace and happyness, shall the real landraces survive.. (i hope)

hey man I just made an account here so I could respond to this, don't think I can PM yet lol. I would love to help preserve rare genetics, and I'm really interested in the turkish! I was bummed to see the few posts that talk about turkish strains poo poo them because I think my climate could be perfect for them, and I love making hash lol

I have a couple posts on riu but I'm mostly a lurker, just a chill outdoor home grower with maybe 4 grow seasons under his belt, so newbie but adapting fast. I live in the norcal sierra foothills right around 38-40°N and I've looked at turkish strains before because turkey is perfectly in my latitude line so I think they'd be great for my location, and I've been curious about trying landrace genetics, I'm really fascinated by the stories of old smokes you can't find anymore, and it breaks my heart to hear about thousands of year old lines in their native habitats being replaced by foreign, hyrdo indoor hyrbid strains and being erased forever. You can't just replace a thousand years of local farmers' love with a couple decades of profit seekers' shortcuts! I've got to know what I'm missing! I was thinking of trying out landraces next year because I expect a good yield this year to give me wiggle room for experimentation. I would love to do a grow journal, run an open/controlled open pollination (separate the males and mix their pollen, then selectively apply to leave some unseeded buds on each plant for tasting) and hand out seeds to as many people I could get to take em, turkish or any other, but the north african ones would probably do best in my climate. I hope you're still around, and I hope you're interested!

That looks egg-zaktlee like the Greek plants from Tropical Seeds Co (which I would highly recommend). I think it is essentially the same as 'Kalamata Red' (though, I've never tried K Red) by the looks alone. Very unique appearance, terps and high. Finished in early september in California at 39 degrees north latitude.
