Malawi Style Cob Curing.

Hello Hombre Del Monte, thanks for chiming in. I got water droplets during sweat, not during the ferment stage. The buds were very much alive when i started. You think i should leave sealed longer WITH the heat added before the cure? How much longer would you go?
Thanks again :tiphat:

Hi Dreaded, appologies for not reading the post correctly. When i have done my cobs i didn't get any droplets durring the cure, so wouldnt worry. You can take them out now or leave them longer. I'd be tempted tp take them out, sniff them and deciede if they're done. You can reseal and cure for longer if you wish.

Here's a Pic of each one. None of them smell the same as when they went in. They are all sweetish Smelling, kinda floral also. No bad smells.
Not sure if I'm supposed to seal for cure or seal to put back on heat for another week. So I'm vac

sealing & putting back on heat for now.

They all look good. Personally i'd let them air dry for several days and then just seal them up. I'd also be taking a little sample of each for a little tester!

Hi Dreaded, I'm no expert, unlike our teacher and friend Tangwena, but I do have several cobs under my belt.
I'm thinking that if your not seeing water droplets after 6 days, that most likely the weed was drier than ideal when it was cobbed.
I myself made this mistake with some Panama Haze that i had. I had no water droplets at all, even after several weeks!. When i eventually opened it (i didn't do a canary), i found that i was slightly moist and smelt good. Mrs Hombre Del Monte eats 0.2g in the morning and is flying all day!.
I believe that as long as there is some moisture in the bud when it goes in to the cure, then the bacteria that do the magic should still be good to go.

Looking at your canarys colour change, I'm almost certain that when you do unwrap them, they'll be good. Myself, i'd be tempted to leave them sealed up for longer, due to the slowed down rate of the ferment, although I'm sure Tangwena will be along shortly, to point you in the right dirrection and to correct me if I'm wrong; thats if he's not on another planet or out fishing!.

Haha close brother leaving on a 6 week fishing trip any day now.
Your right on the money there is no exact time frame, less moisture makes for a different cure not wrong or right. I love the drier cured buds as they are generally terpier and tastier with an up high.

dreaded they look done to me going by the pics. Take them out of the husks and dry them nicely and then put them to age/cure for a month.
I would inspect them weekly drying as needed and resealing after wards, once they change color the less moisture the better.

I've been wanting to try this for awhile and I think now's the time. I've got a Zamaldelica drying and it's corn season so no problem getting fresh husks. Any tips on using ziplock bags? I don't have a vacuum sealer. I've looked back through the thread but don't want to miss anything. Thanks.

Sorry I missed your post my friend I have been under a bit of strain lately with a virus but its getting better now thank goodness.
You can use a zip lock bag and just immerse it in water up to the zip lock to help remove the air.
Its not the best though and better to use drier buds keep an eye on the buds as mold can easily happen with this method.

Found several long forgotten packets of cannabis that had been vacuum sealed only a couple of days after harvest. The date on them was 3/1/18.

Today I opened a packet labeled “Blue Dream CBD”. It was still quite moist and very aromatic, although not offering an indication of fermentation. I remember trying some of this when it was originally harvested and was disappointed in both potency and effect.

This morning I pinched off a tad, probably 100 mg would be an exaggeration. I chopped it a bit, placed it in a gelcap and swallowed it with little expectation. To my pleasant surprise it resulted in the heaviest stone I’ve experienced in months!! A very pleasant and uplifting effect. Almost 9 hours after ingesting and I’m still at a happy place emotionally.

To say I’m puzzled would be an understatement. I’ve always been of the opinion that potency waned with age but this stuff is dope!! In an attempt to unravel this puzzle, I stumbled upon this rather lengthy thread. Is it feasible that my new found prize has gone through a similar transformation that you fellows are creating?

Perfectly possible my friend one of the 6 types of cures I found when a young man in Africa would have equated to what you did.
I regularly do whole colas without sweating or with minimal sweating vacuum sealed and it produces very aromatic colorful cures that work very well smoked or chewed.
You will find playing with the temps of storage, length of storage and moisture content before vacuum sealing all effect the end result both in effects, taste, smell and appeal.
There is a whole new world of highs and effects along with taste, smell and appearance in your cannabis harvest waiting to be discovered my friend.

Hello everyone. this is my second cob experience. the first worked out ok but the lebanese and sinai turned out as not strong. the cob was fine.
now i have experience with growing 24 oz. hindu kush indica landrace.
here's my method. i'll post pics in separate posts.

chop girls and hang for 2 days.
trim buds from stems; separate fan leaves.
separate buds into 3 - 4 oz piles.
smash each pile into the bottom of vac seal bag.
work it around to concentrate into big ole cob.
then vac seal.
heat to 30 - 50 c for a few days. 3 days seems good.
(my only heat source is electric radiator with stock pot on top with cobs inside with thermometer.)
open bags, dry the drops, reseal.
here's where i am now.
i have 6 cobs made in 3 stages.
the first cob was over 5 oz and now it's dark dark brown/green and has the best smell to it.
not just "heated" weed but different; spicy and floral. very unique smell.

so the big, first cob i'm going to place into long term cure.
it still oozes brown liquid but i will change bags every few days.

the next batch has been sweating for 2 days. i'll leave it to sweat until i get the smell.
then, it can go to long term cure.

we'll see. thank you to all who post here to help figure this out.
i think it's wonderful for these indicas.
most here are sativa cobbers but we indica fans can use this too.
sleep and pain relief may be enhanced.

i'm not much of the smoker; i make extracts to take oral.

i'll check back with extract report and post pics later today or tomo.

blessing to one and all.

BigBlack Thanks for posting such great detail if they are still oozing juice its best to dry them until they are smokeable and then re seal them to age.
If you leave them long term oozing juice they will decompose and end up smelling bad.
Right now is the best time to dry them to retain the smell that you like.
I had a friend on another forum that made big slabs of indica buds cured this way and reported it changed the effects in a way that made the high unique and very different from the buds dried.
He liked the effects and smooth smoking of the cured slabs a lot but he left the forum and I no longer have contact with him unfortunately.

thank you tangwena. i put the big brown cob back into the 'oven' to dry more. it oozed a little juice. the others are still in green color.
i took a chunk of the big brownie. dried then extracted with isopropanol for resin medicine.
unfortunately, it is not strong at all. i lost half my lights during the grow, so maybe that's the problem.
anyway, the cob technique is great, working just fine.
the growing of the strong flowers is harder to achieve and will take more practice.

thank you again for helping us learn this method.

here's the big brown cob i took the sample from. the cob itself is great. the strength of the herbs is very low.

but it is pleasant enough. when it dries, i'll try to find a smoker who will enjoy the mild high. my tolerance is too high to get anything from smoking.
the extract was weak.
