Started in peat pellet. Transplanted to a small nursery pot then to 3 gl fabric pot.
Roots Organic soil
Trying Dr Earth dry amendments this time.
3 tbl 444
2 tbl super soil concentrate
3 tbl worm castings.
Will re-amend every 4-5 weeks thru mid flower.
Phing my water 6.0-6.8.
2x3’ tent w/ 2 SF 1000. Dimmed to 60% @ 20” Normally I run at full power but experimenting a bit this round. 4” blower
3 fans.
temps are a tad lower than what I’d like @ 65 lights out, 75 lights on but she’s growing well. Humidity average 40%
topped at the 3rd node.
Will start LST soon.
Will prob veg for 6 weeks.

I want to hear about starting in the peat pellet please. I have just had 3 beans go bad that had already sprouted tails, and I think it is because of the coarseness of the soil. I was also wondering about starting in a finer mix like worm castings. I think the tail ends up pointed the wrong way, and the soil is too coarse for it to get right. That based on a sprout I really want to do well, being all tied up like a snake.

Hang a wet tee shirt against a wall and watch the Rh go to 65%, and fade to 50. You may be able to turn up the light if you think it need to, and keep the temp down.

I usually run close to 100% germ using peat pellets. I connect a heat mat to a timer. Depending on the ambient temp of the room dictates how often the timer cycles on.
I use a small domed 6 pellet, cheap plastic setup. These small domed green houses have a outer tray that prevents the tray that holds the pellets from sitting directly on the mat. That’s important so you don’t fry the beans.
The other part is keeping the pellet moist, NOT WET. It’s a trail and error method when you first start using pellets. The dome obviously creates condensation which is key and helps keep the pellet moist.
I personally love peat pellets. Some leave the netting on, I remove it when transplanting. Never had an issue.
I’m certainly no expert but the tap root should turn itself in the correct direction once planted. Sounds like you may have let the tap get too long?

I think your observations about the coarse mix are accurate..
I have tried jiffy pellets, rapid rooters, root riots which are all peat based and some more exotic foam rooters. I don't like any of them for starting seeds for various reasons.

​​​​For example, on the rapids, the hole is too big and you get push outs, unless you fill the hole with some peat or coco and pack it down a little. And on the root riots the hole is too tight, so sometimes seeds get stuck, so I end up reaming out the holes with a screw.. kinda eliminates thw conveniece aspect.
I also don't like how they fit into an up-potting model.
So you have to plant the puck pretty early.. or you get root restrictions, and they dry out fast with a vigorous plant in it.. Into what? i think a 1 gallon is a bit big at this stage, 16oz to a quart? I think 16oz cups and comparable sized airpots are perfect now..
At which point, im planting pucks into 16oz of coco or promix, questioning, why the hell did I bother with fiddling with pucks and not go right into cups?
Trays of pucks are super practical if you are planting a lot of seeds, and they are easier to keep warm than a 16oz cup, but for small amounts, a paper towel soaked with some humic then right into a 16oz of pithy coco on a heat mat has been super reliable, the pucks not so much. Just my 2 cents

This is the one that made me think of the idea that the soil is too coarse. It had a tail about 1/4" long, and I dropped it 3/8to 1/2" deep. I really wanted this one to do well - Strawberry Banana. It has been like this a day. I am gonna get some worm castings and sprinkle them on top, just to cover the root. This should be the easiest part.



I also have some nice Ace genetics and sooo want to run them, but not until I can do better than this. Sorry for jacking the thread, just learning and you can see why. That is the root tip that looks like a snake, and it won't pull straight.

Yeah, most Pangi plants start and veg with wide leaves but they get thinner after maturity and into flowering, no worries there.
