So, we all know that we have really pissed Mother Earth off with all of the shit we have done to her oceans, her atmosphere but we haven’t really been rooting around too much inside. Just superficial surface stuff like mining and and oil pumping. But now you want to drill crazy deep holes.

Headline . . Las Vegas Sun . . . April 2, 2044 . . .

Geo Plant Spews Lava Threatening Las Vegas Strip

Lava is spewing out of a wellhead on the flanks of Frenchman Mountain from a 17.5 mile deep geothermal laser-drilled hole into the earth’s mantle. The well has inexplicably and unexpectedly encountered a pressurized lava stream. This plant replaced the Hoover Dam generating facility when the Colorado River ran dry in 2031. Fire crews are hosing down the advancing lava without much success . . .

:rasta:

I had similar thoughts. They are going down until they reach 500c. 15 miles or more. This is still within the earths crust, which as we approach the mantle, gets as hot as 600c. If we entered the mantle, we would still have some way to go, before liquid is certain to be found.
earth-s-four-layers.png

Not the full story, as sometimes the hot stuff comes out all on it's own. Geothermal isn't new though. 77 such power stations exist the USA. The Philippines gets over 25% of it's power from such stations. Iceland has such potential that they heat the pavements and some years ago were talking about cables under the ocean to export to Europe or the UK (I'm not sure what happened).

Most countries have it, or are developing something.

I do see a worse case scenario, about our position in the galaxy. They talk of infinite heat, but there is no such thing. As we effect the liquidity of our planets guts, we will effect how it moves. It's interaction with other solar giants. As an example, China built a dam that changed the day length. The planet become less fluid. I doubt we can tell if it shifted our orbit a little. It's getting hotter though. I imagine we need to keep spinning to stay in a ball, and those cancellations from rotation will have far reaching effects regarding our position. It really does need adding to the long list of things that could kill us.

the Germans guilty of continuing to put up with Russia because of their dependence on Russian gas ./QUOTE]

didn't Germany negotiate a deal with Qatar to replace much of what gas they were buying from Russia? i THINK that was reported on Yahoo the other day.

Our television says there is a deal with Arabic States happening. (But not with the Kingdom of Saud.) At the moment tho' the pipeline between Russia and Germany is still operating. This is a huge project for Germania and they can't just turn it off like the bedroom light.

Other European countries including Ukraina criticised Germania for co-operating with Russia because they could see the project would be 'weaponised'. And so it has!

Now pro democracy Germania is in the embarrassing position of criticising Russia while it warms it winter toes with Russian gas.

However ... the Germans HAVE acted FOR Ukraina by sending them weapons. (Hope the Ukrainians got them free or cheap or that would be a cynical gesture on the German's part.)

But really, for me, the whole set up is fucked. Democracy is being turned into bullshit by some very clever and cynical state actors. Freedom is an idea that we think of when we feel oppressed and has become a byword for political bullshit.

Always was ...

After the snowmobile in question sat for a month+ with my $1,700 in parts sitting in the gear basket, in the snow, my younger son programmed the new (CDI) last evening, witnessed it running fine for all of 5 minutes, then it crapped out and went into default trouble mode, aka "limp home mode".

Today 2 other more skilled techs looked at it and determined that their dealership no longer has a current license to install that program into the (CDI), so they want me to wait another 2-3 days while they renew the proprietary software license.

Meanwhile the clock's ticking, and we're readying gear and grub to try and make this happen. But if I don't have that in my possession in the next 24-36 hours, then I'll either be heading into the bush with equipment I'd rather not be solely relying on, cancelling the trip, or going late enough in the schedule to not have the time out there I wanted.

All of this was avoidable, had the youngest son held a bit more concern for his effect on others than he apparently does.

On the bright note, I have LOTS of good food and beverages for the effort, and if the mountains miss me this year, I can stay home and eat too much.

Thursday Morning:

Just sitting here on the verandah … porch … after a morning walk. I went uphill, downhill, then uphill again for maybe two K’s ... a mile or so ... to see how effective the spraying of the weeds had been along the boundary fence. The day’s warming up and now I m no good for any activity so I ‘ll just sit for a while and slowly drink this coffee. Until enough energy returns then I ‘ll go tractoring.

I see there’s a late flush of new leaves on the Mango; and the red Frangipani … Plumeria.… has still got its flowers. There’s a single new bloom on the Peace rose and beside it is the unusual khaki green colour of the Ducksfoot in their insulated pots.

The coffee is delicious. Puts hairs on your chest. Or maybe an ulcer in your guts.

I lose focus. My Internal Dialogue cuts in. My Self-Talk, y’know? Regurgitating some shit I shoulda already dealt with. Thoughts rattling on … and on.

So instead I listen to my garden and the forest beyond. Did you know listening stills the mind? No need for Meditation. Just sit. Listen.

If you listen long enough there’s Silence. Funny that, that one eventually hears Silence!

There’s bees buzzing in the Livistonia Palm a little distance in front of me; and behind me to the right more bees are pollinating today’s blooming of Passionflowers. Sporadic tones of native insects alternate sound.

Ha ha! My gut just rumbled! And suddenly I ‘m thinking again. Of today’s tractor work to come.

changing linens on a bed is hard, even harder when your wife is still asleep in it. damned difficult explaining WHY you are doing it if she wakes up...🤨

I live south of Chicago out in the country. Use to be right under the flight path from O'Hare airport for planes going south. Over my area they went on either side following the interstates going SW or SE. There use to be flights every 10 minutes at an altitude that you could still easily hear and see them. And the local airport had 'dogfight' rental flights with two single engine planes that use to come right over my desolated area to do their dirty work. This went on for about 20 minutes every two hours or so during the day, the two planes chasing one another overhead. The slow speed climbs and dives were particularly obnoxious.

Then came 9/11 and the air was empty for the day, except for a 747 flying SE directly overhead at a lower than normal altitude escorted by 5 fighter jets.

But since then the dogfighters are gone and the flight patterns have changed dramatically. Seldom hear a plane maybe a couple an hour now. helicopters are worse as you can hear them coming for quite a while before the show up and are gone.

Got train tracks 5 miles either side. Sometimes you can hear them.

She (who must be obeyed) practices Yoga in town. Sometimes She brings home ideas from there. Good ideas. Like: Today I will practice Contentment.

It's circular, practicing gratitude leads to acceptance and contentment. Practicing contentment leads to gratitude.

.......... I remember opening a fortune cookie one time, it read: Just for Today, I Will Be Happy. :grouphug:

The one where you wee the bed?;)

Invariably, you are dying for a wee but something is stopping you from going. Then eventually you get to go, and as the euphoric release peaks, you wake up startled, realising what you have done lol

Did you know there are rules governing the reading of fortune cookies?
