damn you girl scouts of america and your sweet cookies

My next door neighbor in the early 90's had grown up with Danny and crew
and had a bunch of bootleg stuff + this album he turned me on to.

I really liked their music but...
as a young woman... I found the lyrics to this tune, deeply disturbing.

That said, it stuck in my head and occasionally still, it will pop into my
brain and I sing along.
Catchy little ditty with questionable lyrics is my summation :)

Okay, while I'm on the topic of 'questionable lyrics',
I'm going to add this little ditty.

I am an avid Frank Zappa fan and have been since '76.
Once introduced, the entire trajectory of my musical
interests took a big swing into uncharted territory and...
I never looked back.

I have been lucky enough to have seen he and his
bands a total of 5 times live.
Times I'll not soon forget (hopefully).

I very well understand the social commentary here
and love the music yet...
some of the lyrics still leave me feeling uncomfortable.
Doesn't stop me from singing along though.

Here is another tune that I adored musically yet,
the lyrics cause me to feel very uncomfortable.

Creepy and unhealthy stalker kinda stuff.
Just creepy.
Love ya Sting and am glad to know that even you...
have stated that... it comes across as stalker creepy for us gals :)
He has stated in interviews several times that people come up to him all the time and say "we got married to that tune, I love her so much, I'm glad he will watch over and take care of me." ???????

He doesn't understand it, neither do I.

People like that either don't listen to lyrics or just can't comprehend what the artist is trying to say.

IMPE folks only hear what they choose to.
It's our own projections based upon personal
experiences etc.
This so often happens F2F even.
I've found that when unsure, I simply ask...
this is what I'm hearing... is that what you're saying?
Keeps things real that way :)

I've known a fair amount of ppl who's B/G dance
was Metallica, Nothing Else Matters. Thankfully.

Why would artists write lyrics at all...
unless they were meant to be listened to?
Otherwise, the pieces would just be instrumentals.

Oh... but then there's this little ditty that blows that theory ;)

oh wow that must have been a trip!
danny elfman is a musical genius and his early stuff was pretty far out
the mystic knights of the oingo boingo

just like a lot of their other popular songs (only a lad, private life) i see them as tongue in cheek, like a distorted mirror of the times
but maybe its just me, i have always like weird shit and wild music
