Vertical NGB 150HPS

Ok so back from vacation and decided to start my next project...

My first and previous grow in a PC went well...

...so I decided to do a little upgrading and using the NGB design, I developed
a micro that uses the same concept but in a tower layout. I had a small
(19"X20") corner of a closet that nothing fit into anyways. Also I really
wanted to use a HPS this time around to get the yields that make it all worth
while so I have integrated a 150w HPS into the mix and along with grow. This
NGB based design, and a little reasearch, will be able to hold a mother and
flower clones in a screen of green.
So the idea is to have a vegetating room on the bottom that vents up into a
flowering room, which will eventually vent up again to a carbon scrubber.

Some crappy pics (i am in desperate need of a new camera cause this one
don't like HPS)

My closet (yah i know its a mess!) Backleft corner you can see the start...

Its so tight in there I cant get a single pic of the entire shelf

Bright white CFLs in my vegetating chamber...

On left, this fan blows upwards to cool the vegitating chamber and directly
above this fan sits a shelf which acts as a light guard but still breathes
through PVC (also pictured on the left). On right, shelf dropped on top of fan.

On the left, holy pressure sodium! pic taken during the day! So with a little
handywork i managed to light proof up the case (pictured right)

Foam for cloning i picked up in a hydro store fits in this PVC adapter perfectly

Veg room and Flower room

Both Veg/Flower and then a pic of the top which i have mounted a vornado
fan which makes the whole thing work, this fan pulls the air through a maze
of PVC keeping my vegging room at about 80 degrees and my flower room at
about 90 (something i still plan to work on)

Very nice work.

Question on your future carbon plans. Are you planning on having the carbon scrubber under the top shelf (And have room budgeted for this?) or on top of the shelf? Just curious.

What heights do you have available in the veg/flower parts?

A very clean approach to modifying the NGB, I'm still redesigning my own grow area and it's always inspiring to see people being ingenious. Props!

I plan on scrubbing through a design very similar to red greenery's scubber
(which i will "re-skin" to look like a cardboard box)

And both cabs are the same size which is bottom area 19"X20" and a hieght
of 2' in the cloning/veg and about 2'6" for flowering (first time using a ScrOG
but after not having the ScrOG for my first grow in the PC, and your guys'
help I think 2 feet w/HPS can easily happen!

that cab looks great! you should do well in there with a 150 hps, cant wait to see!

quick question about the light traps though, all of the elbows are pointed right at the light from the cfls below. would it not be better to turn them sideways as to not let as much light into the flower cab as pictured above. if you already addressed that sorry, im high :rasta:

That PVC may cause issues, lets just say i am happy to not be flowering right
now! The light just makes the PVC glow, but when i peek inside the door to
see how bad it is it seems like the floor is barely glowing and I am not sure if
it gives off enough light to disturb my babies' sleep (less light than the moon
could possibly give off if the plant were growing naturally,) I'll let you guys be
the judge as soon as I get a better cam I can give you better idea of what
my light lekage problem is... oh and without the carbon scrub my Flower room
gets nice and dark but there is day light coming in thru the top exhaust still
so we arent totally done but we got 2 in the oven from bagseed (i need good
seeds or a clone)

DAY 02 VEG

DAY 02 VEG

DAY 01 (belated)

Ok so i missed a day but heres a pic...

DAY 02

Pic of the veg chamber at work, plants are about 5" from 4 bright white CFLs
(2x100w, 2x150w) resevoir is cool and temps are at about 80F at its hottest.
On the right is my flowering room just staying cool for now, but I decided to
to take a pic of my ScrOG in place.

These girls were introduced to baby nutes today, this time i opted with organic
its so easy to mix and well its organic...

The game plan is, I veg my plants till about 3-4 sets of leaves, top them and
transport them to my flowering and then begin to hold back the side shoots.
Then using the screen i guide the shoots to wherever grid i please for them
to grow through, keeping my shoots evenly spaced and keeping all shoots a
similiar height.

Very very nice job!! :headbange

I'm using pvc for venting in my cab as well. One thing you might try to decrease the light transfer is to spray the inside of the pipe with ultra flat black paint.........helped in my case a little.

Also, was wondering where you were venting to? Hopefully outside of the closet completely.

Good luck with your grow!

Air vents to closet and the closet door is open for the duration the HPS is on
the CFLs can run with the closet door shut with no temp issues but with the
door shut my HPS is running at jsut over 100F so thats not even bad as long
as i cool the res and crack that door ASAP.

thanks for the shout outs i hope it performs as anticipated!

i think the flat black spray paint should do the trick thanks for the suggestion

just checked and it seems i have 2 other seedlings that want a bubbling
reservoir of their own, 4/4 seeds sprouted and seeing as they are bagseed
the more the merrier (more chance of getting my fem) so i will be setting out
to make another bucket...

If you really enjoy the taste of your buds I just would like to add buy a Jack
Herer signature pipe, tastes like the first hit everytime, you only light it once
and the smoke is much cooler than anything else that isnt cooled in water.
But you need to look up the special way of packing it on youtube! :joint:

One Week Veg

One Week Veg

A shot of my week old seedlings. Temps are running great and I am mixing
mild veg nutes which I will be topping my bucket off with in order to make
a nice easy transition. As for my other 2 seedlings, one looks like its going
to make it, the other not so much but both are now in a seperate bucket and
vegging.

Seedlings A and B are still about 5-6" from my CFLs but are staying short.

DAY 09 Veg

DAY 09 Veg

Ok so i figure after the 3rd set of leaves grows in ill top the 4th, i noticed
that my leaves are slightly blotchy with patches of light green is this possible
nute burn? ...it doesnt look all too bad. Side shoots have begun to pop up
once i top the plant and these begin to grow in I will transfer them to my
flowering room and then begin flowering (cant wait to use my HPS)

Certified Grower!!

Certified Grower!!

Today i finished up my paperwork so that i can be a legal grower, so now
with access to clones my non sexed bagseed are kind of a waste of time but
it was so difficult to part ways with them so i decided to throw them under
the hps today. The plan still is to top both plants once i see shoots sprouting
above the 3rd set of leaves and wean them to aggressive veg nutes,
then when they recover startem on 12/12 and flower them till ready.

My Temps range from 85 Daytime to 75 Night, I am hoping by keeping my
resevoir cool with a forzen water bottle that the plants can stay cool enough
when its warmer, once i switch my lights i can run the HPS at night at 75
degrees no problem keeping my res in the mid 60's or cooler with the bottle.
Also with the CFLs off temporarily while i search for the perfect clone, I am
sure that 85/75 should be even cooler.
