First grow Thai Sativa with photos.

So I germinated 5 seeds from a batch of Thai brick weed I got a while back. 2/4 germinated within 24 hours, the other two showed taproots about half a day later.

For the time being they're enjoying their cardboard box(I know it's bad, chill out guys. I plan on moving them to a bigger cab when I move. :jump:

) with 4 x 20watt and 1 x 23watt daylight CFLs.

The two older plants are in a DIY DWC bubbler. The res is a breadbox that holds approx 2 litres(half a gallon?) of water,though I only fill it with 1.5 litres because that's all I really need. The net pots are made from 12oz plastic cups with holes made in them and filles with LECA balls.

I haven't much else to say, so here's some photos:

The third plant was FIMed and now has tiny nubs growing out. Should see growth in the next week or so and will get photos.

your plants are looking great, can u see roots yet? how did you do up your net cups? i cant seem to find any real ones, and am wondering what would be the best way to diy for one.

When I checked on the res this morning I could see teeny tiny little roots making their way to the bottom of the cup already.

What I did for net pots since I myself couldn't find any(no hydro store near anywhere I am) was I took plastic cups,those ones you drink beers in at parties, and made holes in the bottom portion or the cup. The jiffy pot goes in with LECA balls.

Looks like it's working so far, and I'm pretty sure you can pull it off with pretty much any 'ghetto' containers drilled with holes. Mix and match when the stores don't have what you need, get some bowls in and draw up some ideas bro.

Thanks guys. I saw both your grows while doing my research. Great stuff!

I failed to go into detail about the setup.

The cardboard box was has dimensions 22x20x10.
I have one 12v pc fan exhausting air from the top of the box connected to a universal AC laptop adapter with selectable voltage 15-24v.The pc fan blowing on the babies is also connected to this adapter.

To keep my temp/humidity in check, I've got a reptile thermo/hygro meter(ones you get at pet stores). Readings at the hottest time of the day (12- 3/4 pm) are 89-91.5f and averaging 86-87f the rest of the day humidity is at a constant 45-55% . Now I know a lot you freak when you see any temp readings above 80f. Believe me, where I live those temps are pretty much the norm, so I'm not too worried about the plants and high temps.

Running RO water in the res with 3 drops of Schultz 10-15-10 liquid plant food. Any advice against this? As I have read different things about schultz.(I'll get to buying proper nutes when I can make my way into the city)

So far, I've given it 3 drops in 2 liter bottle of RO water and that went in the res 2 days ago. Used same mix to mist plants this morning.

I'm thinking SCROG, what do you guys think?

A little update.

A little update.

So I'm heading into the city and will be looking out for a new air stone for my pump and some decent nutes. Any suggestions on the nutes? I probably have the option of Ace Hardware, unless I'm lucky and find a gardening store that sells hydro nutes. :bigeye:

Cristoph was asking about the roots reaching the bottom of the cups, so I took some photos of the babies tonight.

I'm a little worried about the size of those holes, will this be a problem for my babies roots?

Also,would it be okay to top my two bigger plants? Or should I forget the topping and go straight for a SCROG?

I haven't bought a PH test kit yet.I plan on getting one when I go into the city later today.

this strain got some stretch in her?

as for nutrients man, i'de hope to find some hydro, and bassically get a set of grow/veg and bloom/flower nute bottles, one for each (it might say either of them on it) usually from the same product, also maybe a bloom booster. ide also say buy some PH up and down, it can be important later on if u get ph problems! on a side note, if you cant get any hydro nutes, schultz isent that bad of a way to go.

also on another question you asked, you can top, or you could scrog... or you could do both!

i would suggest topping it a couple of times, and then that way, with two plants you can fill a GIGANTIC screen of tops

some stretch?? its quite possibly the stretchiest ever, no trouble at stretching 3-4 times its size when flowering.
it will need tieing down, so scrog is a good idea. something ive wanted to do myself tbh.

Thanks for all the feedback guys! Sadly I didn't have the time to check out nutes today. Had too much to do.

Smokey,the babies are less than 2 weeks old and already I'm starting to worry about the stretch! This strain shoots for the sky. I really wish I could do them outdoors where they belong though,oh well.

Upside is that I'll be moving in a couple of months and I already have plans for an Ikea wardrobe in the works so that should be a BIG load off my mind and even more on the plants.lol

Cristoph,thanks for the help so far! I'll keep an eye out for grow/bloom hydro nutes once things clear up around here and I have time to shop for them.

I'm running a simple bubbler system: aquarium pump + airstones sitting in the bottom of the breadbox with water touching the bottom of the cups.

For that third little guy, I was actually thinking of taking a page from what Johnny's done for his micro grow and give it a nutrient bath kind of thing,should work right?

Keep in mind that this is still my 'first' shot at growing properly,so I might not get everything right.haha.

couple more questions

feel free too ask me any questions at all man!

one, how loud is your air pump? mines super loud, and leaves a hum throughout my room =.= its rather obvious.

and two, what are you thinking about for upgrading to a more "stable" grow cab? not saying that i dont like the cardboard per-say, just wondering if you get a slight leak or something if it might damage your boxes integrity, im think atleast maybe throw down a white garbage bag over the carboard just incase? anyways! hope your ladies are lovin the DWC, its my gals first full day of it in my DWC-soil combo.

eheh... I couldn't resist checking this thread when I read the title, as I had a thai do for my first grow. Looking great so far PG !
I'm wondering, what is your current light cycle ? If not done yet, it might be wise to quickly shift to 12/12, as they are gonna REALLY strech when going in flowering light cycle.

Leaves shape is interesting, kinda "thick" for thai. Curious to see how it evolves !

chronicuser: Yessir, it's my first shot at a proper grow. Last year were attempts at germination and seedlings in soil. That didn't go to well so I took a seat and did my research and decided to give it another go.

cristoph: My airpump isn't loud honestly, can barely hear it over the ceiling fan. I tried turning off everything that would mask the sound of the growbox in my room and surprisingly all i can hear from it is a VERY low hum. It's not given me any troubles getting to sleep,so it's all good.

Maybe I should not flower these and give em off to a friend since I have to leave for a month or so in June. He'll prep clones etc while I'm gone.When I return I would have already moved into the new place and I'm gonna get an Ikea stealth cab going.Thinking of dual veg and flower sections. :dance013:

The girls are in love with the DWC from the way the roots have literally grown overnight!

They're on 24/0 light at the moment.I'm not worried about the flowering stretch since I'll be making a bigger cab for them to flower in later on. These two will probably be for taking clones if anything,to prep a perpetual grow idea I've got for later on.I agree about the leaves,it's gonna be interesting to see if they actually thin out as it gets older or stay thick and juicy. :muahaha:
