So im smoking on serious seed chronic atm and i really like the high.
But i mustve fucked up the drying process, this stuff is harsh as hell and really fucks up my lungs. Tastes like shit too. Now after like 2 months of smoking this my lungs are totally fucked, i have like this slime coat inside my lungs and cough constantly but cant cough it out. So now im sitting on a pile of weed but i have to take a break because my lungs are screaming for a break. This sux!! I dont even want to smoke this herb anymore....

I dont really know how i fucked up either, i let the buds dry for 7-10 days, put the stuff into ziplocks and every day got the buds out for like an hour and put em back. But it tastes like shit, is very harsh and smells like hay.

Anyone got some idea? Or some recommendations for the next run? I tried last night to spray a bud with water, let it dry a bit over night and put it in bags to get that fermentation going again. Hope it helps.

This really sux!

me blunt is like, wicked yo!! owight
it do3s have to dry more. i went through the same thing, but it was just me being impatient, and then thinking the weed was crap. after some time in some mason jars and letting it dry, viola!!!

IMO if its harsh like that and you know youve done what you needed to do for the grow then it has to be that it is still moist

thx frankenblunt!
I have put one test bud in a jar and wil let it sit there for a while and then check if the taste gets better and smoother. But the stuff has been in the bags for 1-2 months so it should be dry no?

Also the main thing i cant wrap my head around is this:
How can it be my homegrown stuff tastes like crap and smells like hay even though its been cured for 1-2 months, while the commercial stuff thats available here smokes very smoothly and tastes/smells great? How can that be? I can't imagine commercial growers cure their weed for several months.

I heard lots of commercial growers use bud stimulators which give the buds a certain "coffeeshop" flavour, dont know if thats true though. Any input on this would be appreciated.

Oh and hi Dave!

Bro throw those ziplocks away and get some mason jars....plastic actually degrades the MJ over time, and makes it taste like shit....mason jars or hard plastic containers are the only real way to cure your bud (Glass Preferably though)....Hope I helped

P.S. Did you flush the plants ????

I remember reading an interview where Simon was saying out of all his strains Chronic is the 1 you really have to take special care of through the drying process as you can lose the entire flavour if not done perfectly, supposed to be very delicate through the drying stage, i'm guessing this is what's happened here KM

If you can next time try and give a slow dry over the space of 16-21 days hanging the plants whole - after 4/5 days remove just the big fan leaves, after 10-12 days remove as much leaves as you can without damaging the buds, once it feels like the buds are alomst perfectly dry lay sheets of newspaper on a table, place your buds on these sheets of newspaper, place another sheet/sheets of newpaper lightly over the buds (so it's like sandwich) (don't put anything on top of the buds tho, it'll ruin them commercial stylee) - fold 3 of the 4 sides so it ends up like an envolope with only the 1 side being left open, turn buds once a day until ready for the jars, that's should slow the roll,

i managed to slow right down the Uk Cheese in the drying room to 27 days till perfectly dry and that's was some tasty Uk Cheese even without a cure

peace

There's probably residual ferts in there... Too much nitrogen will do that... Did you do a flush and feed with just plain water the last couple weeks before harvest? :/

I used biobizz organic fertilizer and only fed the plants water for last two weeks.
I could live with shitty smell and taste but it seems the chlorphyll hasn't been broken down at all and it really hurts my throat to smoke this herb. Its really harsh smoke. So that must mean i fucked up the curing process because its not doing what its supposed to do (break down chlorophyll) right?

This is my third grow and im really pissed b/c when in flower the herb smells AWESOME yet i always end up with final product that smells like hay and all the good flavour is gone.

First grow was so-so taste/smell wise. I think i didn't cure at all, just let it dry in a box.
Second grow i put the buds in bags after 4 days (i wanted to give it a good cure) and the stuff rotted away under my eyes. Threw away 2/3 of my entire harvest due to mold.
Now last grow i gave it 7-10 days to dry and then cure in bags. Result -> crappy tasting, hay smelling, throat burning smoke.

if all else fails, make it into hash. often times the harshness is caused by the green.

hang in there, and you will figure it out.

How are you curing it buddy? (container, airing out process.. etc.)

You should use mason jars and only let the bud air out for 15-30 minutes everyday...

When you put it in the mason jars, You start to break down those nasty little chlorapyls and starches because the jar is completely sealed from air, and then you start building up the beneficial bacterias that eat up that stuff.

And just like us, Those little bacteria need air, and the ammonia that they build up in their atmosphere released, and also the humidity released, so they dont die and cause mold to grow.

You should start to notice your buds getting dryer and lighter in color as time goes by, but also more potent and tastier because you are basically concentrating your thc and getting rid of all the other stuff. :)

If all else fails-

If all else fails-

WATER CURE! (run a search- water curing is easy to do) Only takes a few days to do. You'll be left with ugly, flavorless, but very smooth smoking cannabis. The THC level will not go down! (THC is not water soluble)

Flavorless cannabis is better than messed up lungs! :2cents:

Pick your plants and hang them fully hydrated, this will provide a slow drying process and cure.If you pick that shit already partially dehydrated its liable to dry much faster and be much harsher

It's also Spring, and the slime in your lungs and whole coughing thing sounds like allergies. I thought the same but from schwag, turns out some allergra and some time to get that shit out, good as new.(Cardio helps) But 7-10 days drying? I let it dry till the stem it's on snaps when you bend it, which takes me about 3-4 days. Then place it it in jars. Open said jars every day for about 15 minutes, stir the contents around so it can get the built up humidity out. Reseal. Repeat for about 2weeks. You want the inside of the plant to finish drying the same time as the outside of the plant, hence the placing in jar aspect to allow the humidity of the jar to remain roughly constant and the moisture of the plant to equalize from the inside to the out. Took me a week to two for that sweet sweet flavor and smell to return after drying it out in the open. And yes, it's worth doing it slowly.

ziplocks suck for curing, go get a jumbo set of mason jars, its under 20 bucks.

Dry your buds in the DARK in a somewhat breezy place. you want your humidity around 30% and you DONT WANT alot of airflow, too much air = dry harsh buds

also, why not just sell whats left and go buy something else?? unless theres nothing around where you live. i frequently just sell off my harvests because i would rather smoke club shit!! even though some of my harvests are good, i dont like smoking sometimes because its kinda chemmy and i think i got alittle PM too...
