Grolux Bulbs (400w)
Hi,
i recently decided to try out 1 of the Grolux 400w bulbs for my Neville's Haze, initial impression of them was that they were amazing, the sheer amount of blue in the spectrum really kept my Neville's Haze nice, compact + managable, plus the bulb ran nice and cool which was a bonus, everything was going great until i was nearing harvest time.
As usual i would go in the growroom in the morning to check on the plants to make sure everything was ok, everything seemed fine and i was just about to walk out the grow room when i smelled burning, upon closer inspection i noticed smoke coming from the area of the bulb, immediately turned it off and i could see this red stuff on the inside of the glass (red liquid), left the room for around 45 minutes to give the bulb time to cool down, i then noticed the liquid red stuff on the inside of the glass had turned hard sometime within that 45 minutes and had actually pierced the glass (almost like a glass splinter sticking through the glass), then wrapped a thick towel around the bulb to unscrew it and immediately put it away. Very wary of using the Grolux bulbs again after this, especially because it didn't even last 1 grow, thank god i was around to notice the smoke when i did, i since changed the bulb to a different brand without any problems, if anyone is gonna buy a Grolux bulb in the future please keep a close eye on them regularly as a safety precaution.

peace

I´ve tried Grolux and Sylvana, Phillips and Osram and many more.
If you look for the amount of produced light Sylvania and Grolux are in the lower range.
They didn´t last long.
The emitted light dropped quickly in the second run.
My favorite brand is Phillips followed by Osram, which last longer with little decrease in light output.
The czech and hungarian brands have (that´s only my 2 cent) lesser quality.
But what happend to you can occur with any brand.
Feel sorry for you and lucky you were to have noticed it in time.
If it explodes or emittes sodium over your plant....

Did the package say the bulb had to be hung vertical or horizontal? If it doesn't say then they can usually be hung either way. I was considering getting one but I think I'll do some research and try to find if this is a common problem with that bulb. Thanks for the heads up!
