Since 2004, 95% of American newspaper ink is now soy based, as opposed to petroleum based. It is not considered to be 100% biodegradable, however, because it is still mixed with additives, resins, pigments, and waxes.
I've used this method in my vegetable garden, for about 5 years now. I've started a few outdoor seed in them also. never had any ill effects! Contact your local newspaper and ask them what they use for ink! No harm in asking, since it is a very simple solution! My local newspaper uses a soy based ink, not organic by any means but not harmful in the amounts used!!
I cut the top off an old Nalgene water bottle to use as my template, then ive got an exact idea of the size of my pot, I think i'm gonna start my whole next crop in them!
